I HONESTLY think that, given the chance to turn back the clock, they wouldn't have bough Celina, Declan John, Asoro or McKay.
I think they took the risk of buying them as they were far too sure that they'd get a lot, lot more for the players they were trying to sell.
We desperately needed heads coming in as so many had gone out, but I am 99% certain that they wouldn't have spent much at all last summer had they known how bad things were going to be once the window had closed. [Post edited 25 Jan 2019 18:52]

You’d expect the professionals running the club to go off more than wiki stats. A few on here who’d seen him play a few times warned us he was worse that what we had. I had no idea as I don’t ever recall seeing him play, but it’s a bit worrying when a few of us muppets on this forum have better judgement than the full time, professional experts in the club.

One other factor though is what the player himself wants. If his head has been turned then most often it is a lose/lose situation if the player is not allowed to leave. If he were to leave to the likes of Leeds though, that would be worrying as DJ would obviously see them as a better prospect than us.
If however he went to a PL club then, well, although I think the move would be premature for him, you couldn't really blame him and that in itself would not fully reflect the share holder's desires and intentions, in my view. Hopefully he'll WANT to stay (and I think he should purely for his development alone). |
Leeds are on the up with a highly respected manager, being backed byvowners who expect success and a mix of very good youngsters and experienced talented players. Why wouldn't Dan see them as a better prospect.
Surely the most optimistic Swans fans can't see us as promotion material?
Even if we went up we'd struggle, where as I believe Leeds will do okay even with their current squad.

We're not comparing apples with apples, but Ollie was essentially our last standing striker. I expect that the offer didn't afford the owners the opportunity to sell and make a profit once a replacement had been signed.
People say "Ollie could have been sold" but we have absolutely no idea what the offer was, either.
We have cover in Dan's preferred position but I think we'd all agree that he's one of the first 4 or 5 names on the teamsheet at the moment and one of the few players we've got who actually get bums off seats when the ball gets to him.
If Dan goes, for anything less than absolutely silly money, then we know the Yanks are skint or have absolutely no intention of backing the manager. It's a pity as we're so close to the play offs..... |

He went away to Shrewsbury and was judged very quickly as not up to standard (as McBurnie said the other day, he's "terrible in training"). You'd figure Bielsa's a bit smarter but DJ knows starting anew isn't simple. He can ask Matt Grimes how he got on at Leeds. Or Connor at Boro.
He's a player still adapting to senior football, with no meaningful pedigree to recommend him. Hull and Swansea won't afford you as many chances to disappoint as a United academy label. Here he's played dozens of games with many of his teammates. They know what he's about and how to get the best out of him.
We can make the playoffs. Anyone in the playoffs can win them. We are "promotion material" in that sense, absolutely. | | | |
