Ash joining us at a Championship level for 1 last season to provide reliable, experienced cover to Bartley and VDH is not the worst thing.

He'd cost us our entire wage budget.

Assuming King won't sign for us,we should look for alternative CMFs.

how about Mo Diame? helped Hull through promotion (scored Play-off final winning goal)..left to Newcastle, they got back. And now he's rarely used by Benitez.

potential defenders:(only ones that we can snap for a realistic 5 m or less)

-Tavernier (you know, that Rangers one,can play as an RB or CB,we were linked with him a couple of weeks before relegation, could be interesting, although Steve Gerrard might want to do a swap thing with Mcburnie etc which will complicate things, not worth it)
-Wilfried Kanon (Den Haag CB,24 years old, linked with Chelsea as you know how they love to build their army of loanees, can play as LB as well)
-Feyenoord's 30 years old CB duo Botteghin and Van Der Heijden (can't see why they'd leave Feyenoord for us)
-Filip Helander (Bologna player in the Serie A,towering Swede who looks like a Viking with his warrior beard which instills fear in the hearts of attackers, lovely bloke)
-Rosales (RB,plays for relegated Malaga, one of their best players,I believe we were linked with him last year)
-Dumfries (RB for Heereneven, were also linked with him,one of the best RBs the season before that in the Eredivisie)
-Ehizibue (Zwolle,RB)
Cuco Martina (we all know he's a donkey at a PL level, but who knows if he'll cut it at a Champs level,Koeman seemed to like him for some mysterious reason)
-Ter Avest (available for free from relegated Twente,21 years old RB who's had a rough season, but could be promising)
-Adam Matthews (I can't believe I just suggested that,f*ck no)
-Jan Boril (Slavia Praga RB,was linked with us last January)
-Ali Maaloul (Tunisian LB,plays for Al-Ahly in Egypt,we were linked with him last January,WBA got Hegazi from there and I'd say they've done well, maybe this could also pan out well)

King won't be with us next season.
Would have likely signed if we had stayed up but wants to remain in the Prem.

Speaking of CMFs..we should also look into 2 Championship ones (although they could cost around 8 m or so)

-Markus Henriksen (Hull player, imo he's one of their best midfielders,a bit lightweight although tall,an upgrade of useless Carroll)
-Massimo Luongo (QPR midfielder, scored 6 goals this season,he's short but with some pace, not very convincing)

He'll have a job finding a team poor enough to accomodate him with a regular starting spot. Harsh I know, but true.

Would have been a decent player for us in the Championship.

Whoever our manager will be next season he needs to be in and leading the discussion of who leaves, now.
He will decide on how he will set up tactically and should be given time to organise the personnel and influence what type of player comes in.
It is always difficult (impossible) to keep players who can get and want a move to a higher standard of football but peculation about the likes of Bartley and McBurnie should not be happening IMO, both are Championship standard players and in contract.

Sell

Lukasz Fabianski - £10m

Federico Fernandez - £6m

Alfie Mawson - £25m
(should stay in the Championship with us imo, lots still to learn but there we are)

Jordi Amat - £4m
(We should try and keep him but it looks like he'll have an option in Spain and wants it)

Roque Mesa - £8m
(Would love him to stay though)

Squad

Goalkeepers

1) Kristoffer Nordfeldt
2) Erwin Mulder

Right-back
3) Kyle Naughton
4) Connor Roberts

Left-back
5) Martin Olsson
6) ????????????

Centre-back
7) Mike Van der Hoorn
8) Kyle Bartley
9) Joe Rodon / Cian Harries
10) ?????????????

Defensive Midfield
11) Jay Fulton
12) ?????????????

Box to box Midfielder
13) Leroy Fer
14) Sam Clucas

Playmaker
15) Tom Carroll
16) ?????????????

Right-wing
17) Luciano Narsingh
18) Nathan Dyer

Left-wing
19) Andre Ayew
20) Yan Dhanda

Striker
21) Wilfried Bony (Target man)
22) Oliver McBurnie (Poacher)
23) Jordan Ayew (Inside Forward)

Wildcards
24) Daniel James
25) George Byers
26) Steven Benda (3rd choice Keeper)

Players we need

1) Centre-half
Someone experienced. A leader. A calm head. A captain.

2) Left-back
Again...Someone experienced. A leader. Ideally someone who could fill in at Centre-Back if required also.
If we get the right player Olsson would be freed up as an option further forward.

3) Defensive Midfielder
Someone experienced. A leader. Add to the shopping list; works his nuts off, is aggressive, does the simple things well.
Though if we can't find such a player who wants to play for us we could do a lot worse than Ethan Ampadu.

4) Playmaker
Someone high energy, young and hungry. Someone who can get among the goals, someone who takes risks, someone who is cocky/arrogant and lives for shutting up critics mouths.
Harry Wilson?

Harry Wilson?

Great insight, although,It's impossible we'll be able to keep both Andre and Bony based on their colossal wages for a Championship club.

I'd say for a CB,we could try to go for Huth or Klavan (Huth available for free,Klavan probably not needed at Liverpool since Van Dijk joined them)

for a DMF,we could perhaps go for Mo Diame?

for a playmaker (AMF/winger),Harry Wilson is a great shout, although Jarrod Bowen and Bobby Reid come close,Reid is available for free this summer.

imo we need a new CF as Bony or A.Ayew (or both) will be leaving ..I'm thinking about either getting a loan deal for someone like Mitrovic (although not likely at all as Fulham will probably snap him) or perhaps Ings/Calvert-Lewin or Niasse...or we can go for that Ispwich guy Waghorn, had a superb season, probably affordable.

It's been circulating that we're in for Vydra. and We're facing competition from West Brom and Fulham,Vydra is keen to leave Derby this summer.

But since he was the top goalscorer this year,Derby would be utter morons if they let him go for less than 20 m..which practically rules us out of the race to sign him..

Vydra would be ideal for the right price. Devastating in the championship, but not quite up to prem level. Bit like Scott Sinclair.

But of course instead of going after him,we're gonna sell Mcburnie, send Andre on loan and pay most of his wages without getting a fee. and keep Bony who'll play about 5 games and score 1 goal then get sidelined with injury while paying his entire 5 m a year salary+medical bills, leading the club into further financial trouble without a return..and maybe..just maybe sign some unwanted academy player from some "big club"..oh right we already signed Dhanda...

If we buy a first choice centre half Bartley will definitely leave, so we'll be no better off in terms of depth.

It'd be better if he leaves then, assuming we've signed a better player..because I simply don't trust him as a starter, not even at this level. Not to forget he seems to be too injury prone..we can't have a starter week in/week out in such conditions.

Played 45 games for Leeds, beloved by their fans. We'll struggle to find a surer bet in this division for the money we have available.

He's the right age, the right level of experience, and he's under contract. Other areas of the first 11 are in far more desperate need of investment than centreback (once the inevitable exits take place).

Yeah but you're not looking at him and thinking "I wish we could play him as a winger" are you? He's barely creative enough for a modern fullback.

Re: Andre and Bony my thoughts are...

Bony.
Who will want to take Bony off our hands with the injury he has just had? I can only see any possible deal being dependent on;
- us subsidising the move (very bad for us)
or
- him proving his fitness for us in pre-season and the first handful of games (if he does that he could be exactly who we need in the Championship to both score goals and be that target man we know he can be for the young players who would benefit from playing off him).

Ayew.
Who would want to sign him after his performance since January unless;
- We practically give a £20m experienced, adaptable, International footballer away.

Now I'm not saying that won't happen, it could well happen...might even be necessary, depending on other transfer activity...but right now I think he could be persuaded to stay and play with his brother (and I think we could afford the wages for a season if we shift on the right people...I forgot to include Baston, Sanches, Abraham, Ki, Routledge, Rangel and Leon's wages being shorn from the squad on my list as well as Fabianski, Fernandez, Mawson, Amat, and Mesa).

Andre Ayew should shine in the Championship I reckon.

CB: I like your thinking
DM: Possibly, need to have a think about that one over the summer.
AM: I haven't seen enough of Bobby Reid to judge. I like Jarrod Bowen though and I fancy that Harry Wilson has something a bit special...only seen him a few times as well but he has seriously impressed me.

CF: It does depend on who leaves. If a slot was freed up I would favour a loan deal I reckon...either an exciting youngster or someone like Ings/Mitrovic/Niasse for a season would be good.

LB: I like Bryan Oviedo (always have) who has just gone down to L1 with Sunderland. He is too good to play in L1
