Hot on the heels of Paul Rowen' s, amnesia, Farnell had no knowledge of wrongdoing in the 80's and 90's. This was described as ridiculous today at the hearing. Former education chief Diane Kavanagh says he must have known. His carefully worded statement said no one could prove he was personally briefed. The cover up goes across party lines, I believe neither leader

Is it true, or false news, that he said something at the hearing along the lines of "Knowl View is in the Tory ward anyway"?

Irrespective of which it is, and the transcripts from yesterday would suggest no one will ever know in terms of proof, his position has become untenable. The council cannot continue with a man at the helm unequivocally tied to the past and be forever more linked with such innuendo. He should fall on his sword for the good of the town and allow it to move on from this.

I agree with you, but 'falling on his sword' used to be an honourable action taken by warriors who were found wanting or defeated in battle, something which can't be applied to Farnell; as a term, it's too good for him

Even the dogs in the street " knew " Cyril was a pervert way back in the 70's never mind later than that. I had it first hand from guys who'd seen him in action at Cambridge House. Young lads who'd come down from Glasgow when Whipp & Bourne closed their factory up there and stayed briefly at Cambridge House.

" Knowing " it and " proving " it are obviously two entirely separate issues.

It's enlightening to see the attitude of the " Observer " today with the attitude then. When RAP published the famous issue pointing the finger at Cyril there wasn't a peep out of the Obby.

Just caught the end of the North West news on the BBC seems like Richard might have been economical with the truth to an Independent Inquiry.

'Someone' = Peter Joinson:

Sad how when the town figures in the national news it's usually for something negative (with the occasional exception of the football club).
