The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 59267 views | exiledclaseboy | Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on. First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland. The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so. Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods. Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

The election results thread on 23:05 - Jun 8 by exiledclaseboy | The Tories have no mechanism for replacing a sitting prime minister as leader of the party, party rules don't allow it. If she's PM and doesn't resign, they're stuck with her. |
Part of me would like to see her remain as PM, with a reduced majority or minority government, at least until her first meeting with the EU.

Exits suggested hung parliament - good news for Brexit (or lack of). First two actual results suggesting exits are wrong. Bad for Brexit. Who knows. These polls are a bloody joke.

Absolutely. The campaign in Scotland seemed a far better run one. Whoever came up with the strategy there did a great job - I just can't reconcile or comprehend the difference between the Scottish campaign and the UK wide one.

Major wasn't a bad prime minister really. He was just trying to lead a party full of complacent, corrupt wan kers.

The guy on itv said exit poll was based on polling in about 100 odds seats. So I would assume they polled the marginals and not places like Sunderland. The key will be the amount of tactical voting and turnout in these seats. I hope that is,what the exit poll is based on. Either way even if Tories get 330 seats it's a disaster for them

No, they wouldn't poll solely the marginals, they'd poll a spread including "safe" seats. I'm wondering if the exit polls are skewed by tactical voting patterns?

Yeah, but saying "The worst Prime Minister since Cameron" wouldn't have sounded very impressive. It's going to be am interesting night. Anything could happen. I think a nap and radio 4 is my next gambit.
