Bony wouldn't have scored that first one. Great game from him today!

Put this in the match thread but would like an answer

A tech question here, why was this not offside? when getting the ball Gomis was onside but when the ball was played forward he was miles offside.

When does not interfering start and stop?

Groo does what Groo does best

The Hull defender played the ball, so it's technically a new phase of play.

IMHO Gomis was several yards offside for his first goal, but great finish!

I'm sure many will be saying the same. IMO it's been obvious for a while that, given the way we play Gomis IS a good option for us. Literally the only problem was his failure to score. He's started 14 games on the trot since New Year's Day and scored 6 in those games. By anyone's standards that's pretty good. Bony scored 9 in 22 for us this season (though a few were as sub).

Hull players didn't complain as that is the offside rule. It's a crap rule that went our way today. The likes of Costa and van Nistelrooy are/were excellent at using it to their advantage but it's still a crap rule.

Gomis= Enigma.

I think everyone is confused TBH! he has shown all colours of the Rainbow since being here and has probably had many posters changing their minds one way or another along the way.

He was superb today, i'm desperate for him to bang in the goals for the Swans, so well done to him. chuffed to bits for Bafa!

As people say it came off a hull player last so he was onside. Just like you can't be offside from a throw in (heard a few swans fans shout offside this season!)

Great rule I think, look at Danny Grahams goal v Chelsea in the semi final of the capital one cup.....offside but as they played the pass back he technically wasnt

Good times become good memories......bad times become lessons

Danny Graham goal nothing like gomis. We actually played ball forward so gomis was offside but he's been deemed onside as didn't play ball until defender has headed it. For me he's offside

Yep, offside for me too, gained an advantage from being in an offside position

The Gomis goal exposes an area of the offside rule that it generally poorly understood by fans, and perhaps even poorly defined in the laws. These days a player is not flagged offside unless he actually touches the ball, so what has to happen for him to become legally active again?

I know there are referees who post on here - I'd welcome the opinion of someone with more knowledge than the average fan.

At what stage does a player cease to be offside and can challenge for the ball again?

1. Is it when a defender touches the ball? Perhaps the type of touch from the defender also matters?

2. Or is it when the offside player gets back into an onside position?

3. Perhaps either the ball has to go dead or another attacker touch it after the player has returned to an onside position?

I'll be honest - I haven't got a clue! No guesses please - is anyone actually familiar with the rules?

How can you be off-side when the ball comes off the defender...? I'll answer that for you....you can't......perfectly legal goal............

I don't think it makes any difference that it came off a defender. Take our first goal for instance - if Ki had been offside when Jonjo shot then it wouldn't have made any difference that the ball came off McGregor last. He still would have been flagged.

You can't be off-side if the defender plays it, or has the last touch......and that's a FACT?

Yes you can - for example, winger puts a ball in from deep position, striker is offside, skims off the top of defender's head, but end up at strikers feet. He is offside at the point the ball was played in. It would be coved under "gaining an advantage by being in an offside position"

Some people here need to look into the laws of football a bit more, obviously. Some applications vary, but generally they don't change.

You'll get the hang of it eventually.

Was Gomis off side today for his first goal...?...... Did the Hull players appeal....?.....did Steve Bruce moan that the goal was off side in his post match interview..?........perfectly legal goal......but i suppose everyone must be wrong......and you must be right.........

You said that a player can't be offside if the ball touches an opposition player. You are wrong about that.

I haven't seen the Gomis goal again he was certainly in an offside position when the ball was played in. He was obviously deemed to not be gaining an advantage from that.

Like I say, you might want to understand these things a bit better as it helps to know what you're looking at.

If you are in a offside position when the ball is played in.....and it scrims off a defender....and lands at your feet you are then deemed to be on side.........FACT.....
