Was Ollie really that good? 11:09 - Aug 30 with 2353 viewsAVFTTConvert

Anyone else think that Ollie benefitted from the work and recruitment of Tony Parkes? Seems he never got any of the credit he deserved - kept us up, brought in Charlie Adam (did he bring DJ in as well?) and I think got us to a position where Ollie just played his flamboyant football but with a team that was already in place.

Poll: Worst 'Regular' First Teamer at the moment?

yes he was - look at us now and every other manager under Karl. Can't believe anybody would doubt him now.

Ollie reaped the benefits of having Belekons support/money,

The measure of how good he was probably rests with the year after premier league relegation.
We lost Adam, Vaughan, and Campbell, all vital cogs in our promotion winning team and who came so close to keeping us up despite the pitiful investment of Oyston.
Did Oyston use the Premier League windfall, to invest in a promotion push the year after? No.
Yet Holloway, brought us within a corrupt referees decision of getting back, playing wonderful attractive football at the same time. Holloway managed to get success despite the lead weight of Oyston for 3 seasons before finally being worn down by the greedy ignorance of our owner.
Holloway had his faults. But:
Yes he was that good.

Yes he was, even Tony Parkes admitted he would never have employed the attacking formation Ollie used with that set of players. As said before the real proof of the pudding was the second promotion play off season when he rebuilt the team on a limited budget and played some of the best football I have ever seen at Bloomfield. A miracle worker TWICE, we are light years away now.

Suppose you can only go off results and his side have just beaten us!

Poll: Would you still play the Oriol's

He was that good but if he'd have kept it in his pants he would have been even better ;-)

Lies and rumours that only the thick would believe.

Well done.

MOD EDIT:

You have been warned twice to take this pathetic vendetta off the board.

You seem incapable of doing that so I'll save you the trouble.

I have heard these rumours about Ollie too.
Are they not true then?

Yes he was.
Yes he had a good squad when he arrived and having reasonable success under Tony Parkes; Tony may have even improved further if he been given the chance.
What Olly brought was skilful football and an attacking style, a motivated team and an absolute belief in his system; add to that his man management/motivation and hey presto! We were in the Prem and the "breathe of fresh air" that all the pundits latched onto ... Not to mention everyone's second favourite team (except the knob Enders)
My opinion is that we went up a season too early. Another season in the championship may have given us time to consolidate our playing style and go up on automatic.
I think we would have had a better chance of staying up if that were the case...
Unfortunately Olly, like everyone else , had our esteemed chairman to deal with

Undoubtedly the best manager I've seen.

Being in the First Division and the Premier League are worlds apart in today's financial climate, and for him to be so close to keeping us up was miraculous.

Yes, he made mistakes, not least in the way he left but I'll always be the first to praise him for what he did for us, taking us from the backwater of staying up being an achievement (as stated by Parkes et al) to a team who got all the way to the top table.

All done in a great footballing style.
