Scholes was the absolute bollocks. Show your ignorance and think otherwise.

Probably trying to talk his way onto sky sports or MOTD.

I think the OP'S point was that he was never even prepared to do post match interviews during his playing career and it is this that makes it surprising that he now wants to set himself up as a pundit.

Great player, terrible tackler.

Can't blame him for walking out on england (just like Carragher) for having to watch inferior players getting picked and you get stuck out of position and made to look a bit of a tvvat just so tubby frank and SG get to boss the midfield for about 12 years and achieve sweet fa.

One of the few that has earned the right to have a voice; won everything possible at club level, been a one club man and respected by his peers, not just gobshite journalists and fans who either quite frankly have their own agenda and/or views twisted accordingly good or bad.

I always liked this quote about being put in his place at utd
Cristiano Ronaldo on Paul Scholes

"When we were in training, I used to do a lot of tricks which hardly any players at the club could do. Once i was showing my skills to Scholes. After i finished it, Scholes took the ball and pointed to a tree which was about 50m from where we were standing. He said, I'm going to hit it in one shot. He kicked and hit the tree. He asked me to do the same; I kicked about 10 times, but still couldn't hit it, with that Accuracy. He smiled and left."

If you looked through big games United played between 2007-2010 you will find that Scholes usually played in them and United usually won them. He was a big part in that. That's just three years out of twenty in his career as well.

Where are all the massive games against world class opponents where Andrea Pirlo and Luka Modric have been the 'difference'. Pirlo's Juve side have dominated Serie A for three years but have been dumped out of the Champions League by 'World Class' opposition like Galatasaray.

Spent his career insisting that he was a footballer, not a pundit and so kept his mouth shut.

Now that he is retired, he's willing to give his opinion. Seems fair enough to me.

As already said, an excellent footballer, but an embarrassment that his atrocious tackles were laughed off with a 'good old Scholesy, never could tackle'. Same as Rooney at present. When he calls the ref a 'fcking wnker', it's laughed off as 'good old Wazza, you'll never change him...'

Thanks for that. That interview with Xavi is well worth reading. This is what he says about the Barcelona youth system:

‘Here they make you think from day one. The first thing you do when you join this club is rondo (the passing drill with one player trying to win the ball back and three or four players passing one-touch between themselves). It’s think, think, think, and it teaches you the responsibility of keeping the ball and the shame of losing it.'

Scholes would have fitted like a glove at Barcelona. Clough always said that he would have built the England side around Hoddle if he had been manager. As it was Hoddle was played wide much to often for England. Same goes for Scholes - surely the side should have been built around him?

Yes I saw the bit about how Barcelona builds players - very impressive long-term thinking.
