In the additional comments section I couldn't resist putting "rebel against the premier league rules & have proper hoops, we're not Reading ffs"

Why should the premier league dictate to us what our kit looks like, having hoops doesn't stop peaople being able to read the name & number on the shirt...

Also, why does the club need to ask us to do a survey, they must know by now what our kits should look like!!

I don't think its necessary, surely they should know what our kit should look like, it's hardly a f@cking secret is it!!

If it was choices for the 2nd or 3rd kit fair enough but I can't see what they'll really get out of this.

Nothing about a new badge either...

We have had a patch on the back before with the number on, unless I'm going mad

Theres a picture of Stan on here somewhere with great big patch on the back, yet another thing to hate about the Premiershite.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

It's official Paul you're not bonkers.

We have had patches with the number on the back, some of our great sides in the 1970s had this, in particular Stan Bowles's no 10 shirt (white patch, red number) is pretty iconic.
Later we had them again on the Compaq shirts, from old Big Match videos it is clear that we have also had white patches with black (or dark numbers). Anyone who wants to see them, I recommend You Tube. It's hard to find photos though as they're usually taken from the front.

I don't see what the fuss is about a patch. It doffs a cap to our great history.

nike survey! on 12:56 - Jul 1 with 4425 viewsdaveB

the patch is all because tv and radio commentators are too incompetent to work out who a player is by looking at the position they are on the pitch or what they look like, they only go by numbers and can't read them on hooped shirts.

Not sure why the club don't sell two versions, one with a blank space if you want a number on it and one with proper hoops.

Didn’t the 99/00 kit have a QPR badge shape template on the back where the number went?
Could they not do something like that instead of a patch to make it look like a Rugby jersey?

Anyway,I think we might be taking the sacredness of the kits, badges and colour of the seats a bit too serious these days, what is going on?

I’m well over 30 now so it’s all irrelevant as far as I’m concerned I’m too old to buy one and if I did I’d look a complete spanner with a name and number on it so they can wear what they like, it’s Retro tops or plane old civvies for me.

I was thinking exactly the same thing Dave!...

I know it costs more money for Nike to produce 2 kits, but they owe us after this season’s abomination of a home kit.

I imagine that they've done this survey to give themselves something to go to war with.

We've had patches before several times, and in fact the PL brought this rule in once before - I remember Sheff U and Sunderland having plain backs and striped fronts. Then they decided it was a stupid, petty rule that actual fans didn't want. Have no clue why on earth they'd bring it back.
Tell you what, though, a Change.org petition to Dyke would nix it in about 10 seconds.

Bare bones.

The plain back rumour has surfaced frequently and been debunked all every time. I'd say that either someone at the club has panicked acting on hearsay, or they're being sneaky after Nike offered them a better deal if they don't insist on hoops. I can't imagine the league suddenly bringing in a rule we've not needed for decades of football when no circumstances have arisen to suddenly necessitate it. If they actually have this time, then not only we, but fans of loads of clubs would complain and be heard because of our numbers.

I answered 'medium stripes' because when I read that thick hoops meant 3 hoops, I imagined a shirt with 3 hoops.. 1 blue 2 white.....

Now I think I misunderstood the explanation... DOH!

Yup. Kit last season was 'thick hoops'

It is important that we get this next kit right or all those poor Indian 5 year olds earning 2p a day in the sweat shops making them will be right p*ssed off.

See this is the problem for me.
I buy shirts every now and again, but I have never had a name/number on the back, just don't like it.

But the shirt looks ridiculous if there's a space for a name/number and nothing on there...
1
nike survey! on 20:01 - Jul 1 with 3873 viewsbosh67

The one colour backs to the shirts must be for TV viewers.

If that is the rule then not much we can do.

It does beg the question though, if a player is backtracking or running backwards are they breaking the rules as at that point the hoops are on the back?

Never knowingly right.

You say that but apparently the reason we didn't get a new badge for this season was because of the deal with Nike - I guess they couldn't manufacture the new badge in time - so how much notice do they need for a new badge?
