Well it's a couple of month's late, but the Transfer Window opened today and will be open for 10 weeks, find out here all the dates and some of the players linked with Saints.
Premier League Shareholders have agreed on the dates for the summer 2020 transfer window and there will be a subtle twist at the end of it.
The window will open for 10 weeks starting today on 27 July and ending on 5 October.
Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 17:00 BST on 16 October.
During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations). No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this extra period.
Last season's experiment of shutting the transfer window on the eve of the Premier League season has been abandoned as most club's felt that it disadvantaged those clubs playing in Europe as well as leaving our clubs exposed to bids from abroad but unable to replace those who departed.
Saints will be looking to get their business done early both incoming and outgoing, so here is a quick run down on what might and might not happen.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg- Saints are resigned to losing him but do not appear phased to do so, the player prefers Spurs but they are unable or unwilling to match the terms that have been accepted by Everton. This may run a little longer than it should, but ultimately we have to sell this summer or see his value plummet in the last year of his contract.
Kyle Walker- Peters - This transfer looked unlikely at the start of lockdown, but the player seems to have played his way into favour and seems keen to make a permanent move, Saints have stated that they do not want to make this part of the Hojbjerg transfer and are beleived to have an option to buy at around £11 million, this could well be the first incoming deal.
Kevin Danso _ This looks an unlikely permanent move given that the last of his 3 Premier League starts came back in September and since then he has played just 68 minutes in 3 appearances as sub, the last in November.
Mohammed Salisu - This deal seems to be advanced but is not home and dry yet, Saints CEO Martin Semmens has actually broke the usual silence to comment on this one.
"Most of the stuff you see on social media isn’t always true," he told BBC Radio Solent.
"This one probably has a bit more truth to it. It has been very clearly documented, to my surprise, exactly what has been happening.
"He is a player we have looked at for a long time, a really high quality young player in Europe who would really add something to our squad.
"We are in a process and we hope that we are lucky enough to get him.
"We are very aware that some of the biggest and best clubs in Europe have looked for him
"We offer him something different, which is a pathway to get better, physically and technically playing in the first team in the Premier League.
"We hope that opportunity and the pathway we have shown for other players will attract him here, but we’ll know more soon.
"It would be truthful to say that we have had that discussion. These things are complicated, but it is fair to say to everyone that he is one we are looking very closely at.”
Weston McKennie - Saints are linked but this seems like the players agent alerting the media to the fact that his client would like a move and naming a few clubs to make him seem in demand.
Saints are also looking to offload a few of the players who are out on loan at present, with the contracts on some now entering the final couple of years, there is now a chance to do a deal at a realistic price as the player can now afford to take a pay cut for the security of a new long term contract elsewhere.
Wesley Hoedt is likely to go to a Belgium club quite quickly he is keen to go and Saints are likely to take a reduced fee of around the £6 million mark to get him off the books.
Harrison Reed - He is not seen as a replacement for Hojbjerg and Saints will look to get a around the £5 million mark for a player who has proved himself at Championship level but not truly for Saints where he has started only 6 Premier League games plus another 11 as sub since his debut almost 7 years ago, his last appearance in a Saints shirt will have been 3/12 years ago by the time the Premier League restarts.
Guido Carrillo - Again Saints will take a big hit on Carrillo who in fairness never had much of a chance at the club, in his 5 Premier League starts for Saints plus 2 as sub, he was not outstanding, but those games came as we were in freefall and in truth he was no worse than those around him.
Mario Lemina- The player is making all the right noises about a transfer, but the truth is he always does, he has always been a squad player rather than a started and he is not that bothered about playing as long as he is getting paid well, will he take a drop in salary ? History suggests not.
