QPR sign Taarabt on loan from Spurs

QPR have addressed their slump in form and lack of goals with the signing of, yes you've guessed it, another midfielder. Adel Taarabt is the latest addition, on a three month loan from Tottenham.

Taarabt is a wonderfully talented player whose progress with Spurs has been hindered by nobody seeming to know what his best position is. The Moroccan international has been used as a winger on either side, a central midfielder and full back.

Taarabt told the club’s official site: “Harry Redknapp told me that Tottenham are not really in a position to give young players like me a chance right now and said that QPR were keen on me. he told me to come here and show what I can do. As soon as I heard about the move I was interested. Other Championship clubs came in for me also but QPR is a team that plays football the way I like to play it so this is why I wanted to come here.

“The physical side of the game is not really my style but I know this is something I will have to learn to cope with. I have come here to learn and I know that the physical side is something I will need to handle. It will be good for my experience and good for my development.”

Taarabt joined Spurs, initially on loan, as a 17 year old. He came through the ranks at lens and played for France up to and including under 18 level before switching allegiance to Morocco and he made his full debut for them against the Czech Republic last month. He has turned out three times for Tottenham this season and 15 times in total.

If Paulo Sousa can find a suitable position for him in our team Taarabt has plenty of talent to harness and could turn out to be a terrific signing. We need to resist the temptation to try and shoe horn him into a spot that does not suit him though. If, as seems likely, he is to cover the left wing position while Lee Cook is injured expect him to drift inside and get involved in attacks around the edge of the box. He could turn out to be a welcome addition of talent to our floundering team.
