Ten-man Baggies latest to trap QPR in low block ball-ache – Report
at 07:37 10 Mar 2025

Great read Clive. I think you do yourself a disservice. Playing with width and tempo and dragging your opponent around to create space is pretty basic but important stuff that you are spot on with, and we just can’t do it .
I thought at home that maybe the pitch is a bit small to do that but that’s just not true.
We arent able to do it and I mentioned before on here about our pre match warm nonsense.
Teams warming up in the other half must pizz themselves .

And in the voice and partial words of Neil from The Young Ones “sssh Rick , don’t talk about Kenneth Paal like that , you’ll get us all into terrible trouble “

Showing us we have nothing to fear next Saturday . If we match Leeds in desire and battling which is what Portsmouth are doing then they don’t look quite so great . Fans have to be loud and aggressive and Leeds don’t like . We saw that in May.

Dozzell having a cracking game to be fair to him

By the way , the fans yesterday sounded brilliant .
Loudest Captain Jack I can remember hearing watching a game on tv or a stream .

Tremendous effort

Yeah I’m much too reactionary after a game but I think that’s just part of being a football fan isn’t it ? Can’t go overboard but it’s just being observational for the most part .
It’s when ‘fans’ ignore what’s in front of them and carry on with agendas every week that it gets weird.

Anyway , honest summing up from Ilias there . He knows we need to be better and that will include himself . He also made the point about our naivety.
Lots of likeable characters in this squad who we can all get behind but this has to be one of the most naive and fallable sets of players I can remember.

Not just this guy yesterday but he was an embarrassment wasn’t he .

Nardi culpable of it too and I get embarrassed. One of the dozens of things that are ruining modern football and a lot of it is coming from goalkeepers

But maybe that’s the point . If they both have slight niggles then let’s make sure we have them for 2 matches this week and not lose them for 6.

As been said already , the idea that MC would just leave them at home to rest and there is nothing wrong with them is just a bit nuts and a bit disrespectful to MC as a coach . He deserves and has earned more credit than that .

Doesn’t mean he can’t be criticised after yesterday or on a few decisions in the last few weeks but overall Marti has more than shown what a great coach he is and will be . In no way is he perfect either but give him some credit .

In situations like yesterday I think the coach can only do so much . The players have to step up and find a way themselves . There is this premise that the players are lead by the nose through the 90 mins by the coach . That’s simply not the case . In the main, a coach won’t prepare for playing against 10 men because it doesn’t often happen . It’s like preparing a team to play in hurricane conditions ….you can’t bank on it so it’s a waste of time .
Once they go on the pitch then there is only so much the coach can do snd players like Ilias, just as an example have to use their experience and nous to open teams up .

However , we have to be better as a team and as a coaching staff on working on breaking teams down who are playing in a ‘low block’ ( as an old fart , saying that makes me be sick in my mouth a little).

As I said above , it’s got to a stage now that you can’t comment on what you are literally seeing in front of your own eyes anymore when it comes to some players.

Some of the best defenders to have ever play the game had no pace.
It’s about putting yourself in good positions to stop being done for pace . It’s called ‘reading’ the game and the situation.

I think the players are a bit fortunate to get that reception at the end .
Seemed to be a pretty decent one but I’m not there so can’t be sure.

But I thought we knocked it about with no urgency no tempo . We played that second half like we were 4-0 up in a pre season friendly.

It can be difficult but that’s a huge wasted opportunity. Poor.

Marti not really covering himself in glory . Smyth coming off instead of Yang is a bit of a strange one to me . Yang is so naive . Whole thing from the team announcement to the final whistle just seemed a bit ….crap.

Oh and another thing, observational criticism isn’t ’picking’ on players. This isn’t the playground .
If a player doesn’t do the basics of his job then us fans are entitled to ask why about what we are literally witnessing in front of us .
And to just accept that just because we are a ‘bit skint ‘is settling dangerously for mediocrity.
Paal didn’t read the situation at all and got done . Before we know it we are 1-0 down. If it had been Dunne, Cook….Shittu McDonald or Shanks I’d still say the same thing .
It’s the basics of his job.

That said he’s not why we lost today . We just created naff all and we simply don’t have the squad or the quality up front . We also don’t have the player in the midfield pulling the strings and making things tick over . These 2 areas are the most important things to address in the summer .

A lot to like about this team and its members but boy we must be one of the most naive sets of players to ever play in the championship.

The red card makes very little difference to us in the main .
We have struggled to break down sides who sit in for years and this is just another team now ‘sitting in’.
Sometimes the players on the pitch , not just in this situation but loads of others we’ve been in, have to find a way .
This a huge opportunity but at the moment it’s ebbing away .

This keeper is taking the pizz here ain’t he ?

The most basic ball down the line and Paal is done .

The basics of the game are simple and when you don’t do them you will always be in trouble .
We ain’t done too bad . More possession and shots before the goal but we won’t be able to sustain the pressing and chasing and I think they’ll pick us off when we tire .

JCS, Celar, Field, Kolli, Frey and Varane . That’s the spine of your team missing ….again .

Not for the first time this season .

Get something from this, against a hugely physical team , then it will be some performance

You can’t even say “don’t give corners away “ with Furlongs throws.

Nardi has to be big and strong come for as much as he can .
I fancy bashful to play down the middle

I absolutely love Mono.

I love how they manage to create Japanese sounding themes and tunes and sounds with just guitars and effects pedals. Everything sounds Japanese even when it gets heavy and if you have ever been to Japan you’ll know what I mean .

About the 7th minute mark in this is one of my all time favourite pieces of music . Spine tingling .

Footage is a bit dark in places . Apologies
