West Brom Striker On Southampton Radar
Tuesday, 23rd Jul 2024 13:07

A new name has emerged to replace Che Adams in the Saints strike force, here we take a look at whether this one is a deal that will excite the fans or just another name bandied about in the media.

footballinsider247.com have thrown a new name into the hat for a move to St Mary's, but will West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante be the answer to our scoring problems for the coming season.

The 25 year old arrived at the Hawthorns in 2022 after notching 26 goals for Salford City in 107 appearances in League Two.

For the Baggies he has hit 18 goals in 72 appearances, being their top scorer in both of the seasons he has played.

But these are hardly stats that will impress or excite Saints supporters, given that both Che Adams & Adam Armstrong scored far more than his 11 goals in 39 appearances in the Championship last season.

Not to mention that his market value is only around £3 million, to be blunt Saints have better striking options at the club already, having never played in the Premier League it is hard to see what he can bring that we don't already have.

I presume that this is an attempt by the owners to prove without doubt that you can't buy a Ferrari with Fiat money?
Sadly we also seem to have paid other clubs for Ferraris not realising that they were selling Fiats. Any clubs out there interested in our range of pre owned, low mileage, Fiats? The squad does seem bloated with players who aren't going to be much involved this year.

It’s about time we signed someone decent. We don’t need anymore average squad players. Give us a terrace hero. When was the last time we had one of those? Mane? Pelle? Lambert?

I was pretty impressed whenever i saw him play last season, admittedly only 3 or 4 times. He didn't have much around him to help him tbf. Whether he's good enough for the PL is another matter.....

Following the West Brom away game in the playoffs and on my return to the hotel where I was parked there were many WBA fans and they stated that their biggest issue is that they did not have a real goalscorer that could change a game from a loss or a draw to a win. They did not rate this guy, though whether it was harsh I do not know. He does not sound like a step up for what we need for the PL.

I think there is plenty of milage left in this fiat/Ferrari analogy. Although Fiat's make nice cars so maybe lada would be a more accurate comparison.

Looked good last year in a very defensive team with limited creativity. He is also at the age where he will be hitting his peak. He could do a lot better in a more forward-thinking system and Russ thinks he can fit in. Squad player though only please, would be happy with Benneton Diaz in addition to. Unfortunately, we are probably not a club who can buy Ferrari's but Benneton Diaz could be an Audi and Assante could be a VW.
