Could It Be Saint Germain For Saints !
Sunday, 24th Jul 2016 12:32

Saints are being linked with a move for a striker that Claude Puel had on loan at Nice last season.

Monaco's Valere Germain is the latest to be linked with a move to St Mary's, the striker spent last season on loan at Nice and scored 14 goals in what was a successful spell under the now Saints manager Claude Puel.

He has now returned to Monaco and although Nice had an option to buy he has not yet made any decision about his future prompting speculation that he might be about to join his former manager at St Mary's

Germain is 26 and has fallen down the pecking order at Monaco after scoring 31 times in 123 appearances for the club, at 5ft 11 he would appear to be the type of striker that would compliment the current roster rather than be a direct replacement for Pelle.

Real Betis in Spain have been chasing Germain, but the latest rumours in France suggest that it is Puel who will get his man.

Interesting to play around with names like Saints/Spuds/Toby/Athletico Madrid and substitute them for Nice/Monaco etc in this article. Do you think Nice supporters are fuming and saying "Southampton are not bigger than us".

May come down to how well CP rates Monsieur Germain! 14 goals is a fair number for a striker, so we wait and see.
