When we play Preston
at 19:18 14 Dec 2024

I predict bodies all over the pitch and about 25 minutes added time.

Ashby
at 19:10 14 Dec 2024

In Ashby’s defence, the two best passes made this season were both by him to Celar in the Cardiff and Watford games.

I have a fair bit of sympathy for him. Came here as a RB stand by for Jimmy and found himself in a LB position that really is not his natural calling and clearly, it shows.

Personally think he might be best suited to a right sided centre mid roll, in a three, so that won’t be here given how we set up.

Ashby had a couple of aberrations second half but aside from that, thought the entire back four and the two centre mids were excellent. Perhaps Field was less involved as Varane seemed to intercept practically everything that came through the centre.

Smyth even beyond the goal was very good in front of Dunne.

In games like these you need a no 9 and no 10 to occupy the opposition on the rare occasions the ball gets forward, that didn’t happen with Andersen and Kolli. Saito also had an indifferent day.

In the heat of the game, we are ineffective in the oppo half, or at least until they tire. Basically the back 6 need more from the front four.

Lloyd - Lone Striker Role

Yeah, I’m never sure where his feet are going to take him and I’m not convinced he does either.

Put in a sterling effort today though, which we really needed.

Varane is looking a very good player, really impressive.

Field the world, lets them know it’s Rangers’ time – Report

Around us, me included, we were weighing up the impact on our journey home.

Ended up on the overcrowded disease machine otherwise known as the London Overground, guaranteed to strike you down with illnesses not yet recognised by the WHO. Will be watching the Bristol game from my sick bed. Cheers ref.

Streaky?

It’s the Championship.

Vast majority of teams don’t have the personnel available so form ebbs and flows around injuries. It does feel like we might have finally gone some way to address that. First time in years I’m not terrified by what we bring on from the subs bench.

Points Deduction could equate to promotion to the Promised Land?!
at 11:26 12 Dec 2024

For perspective, to reach the play offs, we need just above 2 points a game. In other words, champions form for the remaining 26 games, the sort of points to games ratio we last managed around 1983.

In short, it’s not going to happen.

Oddschecker has us at a whopping 500/1 for promotion.

Look, I’m putting this out there so somebody else doesn’t have to, ok?

The only good thing I could say about the ref was he brought that first half to an abrupt end.

Varanne

We were thinking exactly the same.

Varane quietly gets on with his game, gone are the rash challenges, learning fast on the job. Feel a lot less reliant on Colback now.

The stand ins are starting to shape up like first teamers just as the first teamers are getting fit again!

Kolli
at 09:11 8 Dec 2024

Played very well and all the stuff already said about him.

Don’t think this should disguise the club that we still need another CF. Frey has spent most of 2024 injured, no reason to expect otherwise going forward. Celar had been dreadful and only shown signs of life in the last two games.

Vaguely recall a player, Dean Neal possibly, scoring two in his first game and that was that. Not suggesting that will happen with Kolli, he has looked ok out wide here and there, but I imagine Norwich were as blindsided as we were when Kolli went straight up front. Don’t believe this was some master plan from the manager, we were literally out of centre forwards.

He did look good and made runs a CF should be making, but defences will get used to him and without options we can run back into trouble again.

An absolute class act as a player and undoubtedly a big influence on those playing alongside him.

Givens stayed after the team broke up. He went through a rough patch but the stick was distinctly unfair given he’d been brilliant for us from when he signed.
