| Forum Reply | Rammed if you do, Rammed if you don't - Derby Vs Qpr Match Thread at 16:59 5 Oct 2024
I think it’s safe to say we are probably more likely to be in another relegation battle than not. Up to this week not sure a lot of it was Marti’s fault. But he has to take the blame for a lot of this run, where obvious weaknesses in the side are being left exposed and teams are taking advantage. Look at how many of the attacks today and against Hull were against our right hand side. Nothing to address it or tweak to shift bodies out to help a poor defensive unit that side. How poor we are at moving the ball through the thirds. No change of personnel or mixing it up. Playing Frey 95 minutes today when he looked clearly shattered after about 20. None of that is jelling. Feels like he’s digging into his principles when the reality is a lot of these players aren’t good enough do it. [Post edited 5 Oct 17:02]

It’s no surprise JCS misses 2 games and we lose. Add in colback (win % with and without etc etc) and still no chair we are under strength. Very concerned about the recruitment at RB. None of them look to the level, Dunne included. And we have 3 of them and 1 LB. For all the chat about smarter purchases full back looks a real issue |
| Forum Reply | are we heading for down then up.... at 10:26 2 Oct 2024
Every single poster wetting the bed will simultaneously say we need to be smarter, buy low sell high, shop in lower leagues / abroad, and then - when the inevitable difficult period comes with that strategy - be willing to rip it all up for a dinosaur manager who will play 442 sign stalwarts and hit the big man. It is a massive, and underplayed by many, reason why we’re allergic to sticking to a strategy - our child like whimsical owners don’t exist in a vacuum, they feed off those fans’ sentiments (Uncle T especially back in the day). Wonder if they’ll even stream it at this point, given they refuse to release any of the playing or coaching staff for interviews etc (less Alfie Lloyd, unlikely to know the state secrets let alone sell them). Nourry is seriously shooting himself with this policy. If anyone can explain the upside here please have a go |
| Forum Reply | West London Sport at 08:59 23 Sep 2024
If it is club induced (I.e. Nourry telling them to get f’d) then this North Korean approach to comms is going to turn very sour in weeks not months - which quite a few of us on here have been saying was inevitable. That said, it sounds from what Dave Mc and Ian M have said previously this might just be harsh realities of local rags. Clicks on prem articles probably their major revenue stream even if the core fan base is more QPR. Theme of it all - comms vacuums bad, transparency good. |

Field at CB (albeit a mini injury crises and he actually did quite well), Walsh and EDB aside - would you actually be disappointed given current injuries? There will absolutely be games this season where that team isn’t too far off a normal league game side. Broken record but this isn’t Drewe and Kelman you’re talking about. 2/3 midfielders last night cost about 3.5 mil between them. Add in a (low confidence) c.2 mil striker. Nourry has explicitly said we’ve invested to able to have a deeper squad so we’re not Illy and Willy FC. I have to be honest I’m finding this idea that last nights team was incredibly weak to be very very odd, bar the exceptions above. |

“Play your best team”: So when does Ashby get a chance? Or Saito acclimatise? Or Celar try and find form? We’ve invested in a squad this season for this very reason. To be able to rotate, for league and cup games, without dropping the quality of the performance by a division. We were not bad last night. The idea our best eleven (which would have been maybe 3-5 players different?) would have made a huge difference is pie in the sky. “Doesn’t matter where you are in champs”: Agree this doesn’t apply to us right now, but it definitely p does impact promotion hunts. Look at boro and Cov last year, injuries suspensions etc, boro get to LC semi and get battered 6-1 on agg by the scum and never really recover in league. Cov have an unbelievable day out but league form goes off a cliff and don’t make play offs. “Was Warbs right to rest Willock”: Every single person moaning on this thread would have moaned if Willock played and got his hammy injury in that cup game, lambasting Warbs Warburton for not managing his minutes. Some of the comments comparing MC to McLaren et al are a joke. He isn’t playing f**** Aaron Drewe and Charlie Kelman lads, he’s playing players we’ve brought in for wedge and rotating a decent squad. That’s okay. [Post edited 18 Sep 7:39]

| Forum Reply | So many positives - yet a meltdown on here - dose of reality please at 07:29 18 Sep 2024
Every word. To add to one of your points ND- Squad rotation when you have Kakay Drewe and Kelman is one thing, but if you actually have some squad depth it’s *the right thing to do* to get minutes into Varane et al. They’ll be better for it and probably deserve it if they’re working hard in training etc. The same people moaning last night will be the ones who lambast the club if key players get injured for not managing their minutes better. Total unnecessary meltdown from the sorts of posters who I usually agree with! |

I think in the cold light of day a hell of a lot if this thread can go in the ‘emotional overreaction’ folder. To compare it to Blackpool et al exits is frankly ridiculous. We played pretty well. Some players - Varane, Ashby, Saito - needed the game time. They have better players in every position and therefore could just step it up a gear to win, that is not a surprise. The idea that it is somehow utterly unacceptable is to deny the reality of the two clubs and the gap between first and second tier. I get some on here can remember when palace were beneath us and we won a cup (sounds nice). But that’s not the reality anymore. Genuinely quite taken aback by the reaction on here. Unsure what planets some people are on when it comes to cup football - “it’s not impossible” to win is literally denying all the evidence of the last two decades. It’s not the 80s anymore, second tier teams don’t win things (Wigan were in Prem, Coventry didn’t actually win anything etc etc) [Post edited 18 Sep 7:23]

With Bulut on the ropes could be 3 gone and we’re not even at the second international break. The amount of absolutely mental clubs/owners in this league. Fit and proper indeed. |
| Forum Reply | Dykes sold apparently at 13:43 27 Aug 2024
Absolutely this. We’ve spent somewhere in region of 5/6/7m this summer. There were people on here saying we had to sell to be prudent, now we’re selling at what the market clearly will offer (don’t think they would have started out at this ballpark) - I recall milwall offering something similar a while back with lots of add ons - and we’re getting in a huff about it? How many times are we going to want our cake and eat it. Frey and Celar with maybe a cheap ish loan at week’s end is all we can afford. A club like ours can’t have 3/4 first choice strikers in the ffp era [Post edited 27 Aug 13:49]

He’s scored 9 goals or less in the last three seasons. His best goal scoring season for us was 12. This is fair value **and that’s as the primary penalty taker [Post edited 27 Aug 10:12]

Whatever the fee, it’s overdue (as was seeing the back of Willock, Adomah, Kakay etc). We needed a big shake up after the final Warbs year and the decision makers at the time didn’t act. This summer feels like the first time we’ve properly moved on from the core of that side, and I think Nourry deserves credit for seeing that early and acting decisively - whether the replacements work out is another question. He needs to move on and so do we. |

I don’t know how many times it needs to be said, but if another club want to know the terms of Dembele’s or Saito’s loan they can call their agents. Football clubs have a number of mechanisms to find this stuff out. Most of us fans have the ever reliable X, friends / family, and this forum. Clubs will get the info one way or another and we won’t. The last 3/4 pages of this thread are all the evidence needed for why the “fans don’t get to know anything” strategy, for whatever perceived positives the club think it has, just isn’t worth it. Don’t want to be that guy, but I keep repeating myself here - as soon as things start to go a bit wrong on the pitch, as they well might with so many new players, this issue only balloons. And its a complete own goal. Like the sh*t 90s football own goal against City. |

Agree to all of this mate. My original point is more around the fees being spouted around and the conclusion of what that means financially. We just don’t know how expensive these fees/contracts/deal structures are which, while I agree is a bad strategy comms wise, does not mean the twitterati’s word becomes gospel. Like i said vacuums create lies and this is yet more evidence for why the secret squirrel approach to our dealings is totally baffling. Doesn’t make the deals themselves bad/reckless/Arry-esque. Just one big dollop of ambiguity |

I’ve been pretty vocal in agreeing with you on this one. I think 90% of the anxiety here would dissipate from better comms absolutely. But this thread getting anxious about fees is based on twitter journo nonsense - a black hole which in the absence of club comms some bloke or bot creates figures from thin air. Jets need to be cooled until account releases as under the current media black out we don’t have a clue how much these guys have costed [Post edited 21 Aug 11:12]

I get the cautiousness here guys and not saying for one moment this ownership are wise old football sages. But you cant have it both ways every window. Sign cheap old has beens on frees? We should be investing in players to sell on in the future. Sign 21-25 year old punts to develop and sell on, and pay (let’s guess) £5/6m in the process? Our spending is too high we need to be more prudent. Maybe it’s a risk that is costly, maybe it’s all accounting quirks that none of us have the knowledge about and are guilty of spouting keyboard warrior answers about finances when we haven’t got a clue. But you can’t chastise them for investing in young punts when we’ve been saying we should do this all along. If we’d spent our millions on Dembeles and not Rio No.5’s we would not be here. We need to have some risk appetite if we’re ever to get out of this death spiral. And we can’t be having our cake and eating it every window. [Post edited 21 Aug 11:06]
