Listening to Olly on the Quest program last night and reading between the lines; It seems to me he told the management this would happen, unless they found a way of effectively replacing the players who were leaving and they sacked him for it. Most people I've encountered think Olly fulfilled his remit with something to spare and deserved support from management and fans and not the sack. Steve McClaren doesn't know this team or its weaknesses and few strengths, (obviously), and unless we can have an injection of talent, common sense, and better tactics , use of players to their limited abilities, and management then we are doomed to relegation. It seems to me that Tony has resigned so he isn't in charge of another sporting disaster. |
| Forum Thread | Weird Can't say O llie any more? at 09:55 5 Feb 2018
I had a post rejected because it contained several reference to O llie (without the space) and was rejected due to unacceptable language. . Has something happened that I don't know about and O llie (without the space) has become a really bad swear word. When I replaced all instances of it with Holloway it went through fine. Fûck me have those who want to remove our manager started working through all the versions of his name so they become swear words? |

The thing is who would come to QPR. Its normal for anyone who wants the job to finish up being not good enough. With all his faults Holloway has commitment to QPR a quality nobody else out there has. OK lets face it we've tried changing managers soon after they've joined and it hasn't worked for years, how about going for a bit of stability and seeing if that works for once. Ollie has been hampered for success by being restricted in bringing in talent which I'm sure he recognizes that we need as well as anyone. When it comes to the summer we now should have a scouting team, CEO and DOF who will be heavily involved in who comes in as much if not more than the manager, whoever the manager is, provided they get it right, he should start next season with a significantly improved squad and I think I would like to give Holloway a fair chance of managing that improved squad. Despite significant injuries and a few errors possibly due to lack of skill or experience we don't seem to have the can't be bothered attitude of our players seen under a number of previous managers. Holloway does seem to be motivating what we have. Even people that want Holloway out recognize that he will have fulfilled his brief if he keeps us safe while offloading surplus overpaid,under-performing superstars brought in before his time and perhaps for that he deserves a go with what I hope next season will be a decent squad. |

Holloway cares about QPR. Of recent incoming managers I can name some that didn't. Hughes Redknapp Hasselebaink Probably several others. Do we really want another one like them? Because that is what we would get, although any manager with a rising reputation would not want to come to QPR unless they were from divisions below us and see it a a step towards improving there career. Of course Holloway is not perfect, but he does care and sometimes when things aren't working out he tries something different. That is a risk he takes in the search for something that works and when it doesn't work out he is an idiot and when it does he is lucky to some and a genius to others. All he is doing is managing a difficult situation. Since Holloway took over there have been so many constraints on what he can do in terms of bringing in players or trying to offload players we can no longer afford. He has had to manage this while building team spirit and getting the players to play with the same commitment he has and I think in that respect he is doing a good job and deserves our support. |

I've not posted for ages because I didn't think I had much to offer. I am one that wants now to put my head up and say I'm glad Olly is our manager. He is a QPR man and although not perfect will do his best for our club, without his main objective being about his next job. I hope he is learning that when the players picked don't perform its necessary to try something new as he did in this game. Until the recent efforts our player development system had been failing, but now hopefully it can bring along players for our manager to consider. Ideally the current system needs more time to bring fully honed players ready to fit right in, but we haven't got that luxury, so risks might need to be taken and I hope many of them pay off as they did in this game. I like the way our club is now being run and with so much negativity around I thought it best to say it. I have, however, lost a lot of belief in football in general and the Premier league in particular where obscene amounts of money are being used to pay and induct players into clubs. These so called superstars who demand these sums are not at all important compared to some of our real superstars working for our NHS and saving lives for a small fraction of what footballers get for kicking a football round a field. I think SKY and the people who pay its subscription should take responsibility for the damage they have done to our once beautiful game. I'm probably in a small minority, but I hope QPR don't get back into the Premier league and the BBC decides to downplay its obsession with it. [Post edited 2 Jan 2018 20:31]

I heard the BBC Royal Correspondent say that both Prince Charles and the Queen consider their income from their "Duchys" are private income and the public have no right to know what they do with it. This is an absolute disgrace they hold this land and property based on their position subject to the agreement of the UK people and they hold it in trust and until those people decide they are no longer required. That can't come soon enough for me and I hope this example of their activity brings it sooner. |

Cyprus Mel and Oldmisery made good points in their comments on Clive's preview to today's match when they say that Alex Stock always put out his best team and players this early in the season should be able to survive two matches. Clive's point about giving up that early on probably the only competition we have any chance of winning means that Ollie disrespects the fans who bothered to turn up. Once Ollie decided on the team he picked he should be straight with the fans and say don't bother because I'm not. The fact that it was a local derby with Brentford should mean a better effort to win should have been made. If we beat Cardiff 1-4 today all will be forgiven, but that's probably not going to happen and its more likely we will get another tonking. With the right attitude from manager and players we could have beaten Brentford and if Ollie didn't think that was important he was wrong. If the team suffer two heavy defeats in succession after today's game it might take more than Ollie's got to put the attitude and morale right again. |

Well we've already failed in my preference to have an almost full squad resolved at the start of pre-season. Having had a whole season to identify targets this time round, why can't we do our business early so players bed in before the season starts. We have another situation where too many players aren't wanted or included in pre-season and more names proposed as replacements, but not sorted yet. I know there are reasons and excuses, but to be where we are now is a management failure, before the season even starts. Some of the reasons for this might be almost insurmountable, but I'm not sure we try hard enough to sort them early enough to get the most benefit from pre-season. I may have mentioned this before, but it was obvious to me we were going to have a good season during Warnock's first pre-season in the West Country when many of his incoming players were already with us from the start and very quickly became part of the team before things started in earnest. The lack of a settled team at the early stages since has always led to a failed season and we've had much too many of those, so I'm expecting just survival, but hoping for better. I also think players not injured and having treatment who are not included in pre-season must either have made it clear they want to leave, or the management is sending them a message that they are not wanted. It would be better if we could get them out sooner if that is the case. Its inevitable they won't all leave, so those that are left are hanging about like a bad smell and having a negative impact on the squad. I hope we don't give up too early on some of these players who are left on the payroll at the start of the season, who with a bit more encouragement and focused training could do a job for us if and when they might be needed. I know from my own experience if you want to be successful in any type of business you need to make the best use of resources you have even, when they may not be ideal. |

Perhaps a radical idea, but why doesn't QPR ever go for stability? The real problem is we put people in place just long enough to know what is wrong with the place, but never long enough to deal with it. All the constant changes and the fans screaming for them could be the reason we don't perform consistently well - because there is no feeling of stability or slolidity about the club. Players probably don't feel they can commit to any manager we have, because they expect they will be gone after a few months and they will need to change their alliegance to the next occupant of the hot seat. The problems at QPR will take more than a season or two to put right and if we try sticking with people who have the club's interest at heart for long enough we might atually start to generate loyalty from players towards them and have enough time to develop our young players. The signs from our manager of panicing to save his job by trying inexperienced youngsters for half a game and then abandoning them for the hope that trying yet another who might become superman overnight and save the day, is only a preview to another change doomed to the same failure. What is needed is calm support from the fans and the board, so panic moves are not required and if that had been in place we may not have lost the last 6 games and be in the slightly precarious position that we find ourselves in now. Even if we do go down and I regret it could happen, do we blame the manager, DoF, CEO, owners, fans or a collective of all of them? Or do we stick with it and use the knowledge gained to put things right? |

Well Hall's season is over and after the way things have worked out Henry is not in the best frame of mind to fill in and give his all for the club that has always criticised him even when he does a good job. He may have done a job for us in the last two important games, but now He would only be playing to get a move and not as a committed QPR man. |

I want Olly to succeed and I'm hoping what he has learnt about the players during his few games will make him realise what doesn't work, so he can get going with something that does. The problem is he probably wants to play the way we did when he was playing, but doesn't think we have the Sintons, Brevitts, Maccas, Willo's et al to do it and he hasn't got the time to mould what we have into that kind of set-up. We want QPR to be playing like they did in those days and that involved wingers and/or wing-backs. I'm not sure if he should be looking at players that we have to try to get them to play what used to be the QPR way. It might take time to do that and recent results will limit what time he has. I wish we could inject some of Macca's DNA into one of our central defenders, as a bollocking from Macca seemed to get his defensive partners to shape up. TBH that is what we are missing, that strong leader in the centre of the pitch and if Olly could find a player with some of that fire and commitment in January I would hope it could start the changes that are clearly required. I know what has happened for months even years now has been awful, but its going to take time to change it and I would prefer that a real QPR man like Olly is given enough time to do it. Having said that he needs to be honest with the players and fans to accept that what is happening is not good enough and have a real plan to get to what is. |

I usually park in Godolphin or Hetley Road (my son lived there for a time) How much are the charges and is it possible to pay for 3 hours, so you could still park, watch a game and have a swift half in the Adelaide after? Or have they made that impossible? |

I think to call him Tottenham Les is an insult that I can't accept. Were you not involved with QPR when he was playing for us? Do you really think he decides who the manager is, or when he is sacked? Lay the blame where it lies. |
| Forum Reply | The truth about JFH's spending. at 12:56 6 Nov 2016
I don't know who picks the manager, but I would bet it isn't Les, although he must be involved in the decision I don't think he can be blamed. Most people agree the squad put together ain't bad. Now we need a manager who can get the best out of them, the best of who wouldn't come near QPR, so we need to be lucky and right this time. |
| Forum Reply | Sorry but I'm not sorry he got the tintac. at 12:14 6 Nov 2016
I was not a JFH fan, but I'm sad that as I suspected they picked the wrong man. I know everyone is against Sherwood, but he has possibly learnt from his recent managerial experiences and gained a bit of humility and realism about how much he should be earning now. He will have the need to prove he can do a job for someone and it could be QPR. Anyone we take on is a gamble, look at The not so special one at United. |
