Just before the Cup match away to Peterborough there was a slight thread on the subject of The Times' food critic asking for lunch recommendations ahead of the match as he and his son were going to see the mighty Rangers. See Posh Nosh by TheChef 2 Feb 2022 13:38What's so bad about Giles Coren?
Other than being called Giles [grin] Behold the write-up landed last Saturday in the Times Magazine. Murdoch's paywall and copyright lawyers might be after me - and Clive - if I copied it but if you can get it it's an amusing read. The basic plan was to watch QPR smash Peterborough 10-0 in the FA Cup ahead of a glamorous televised showdown with Man City, a number rising to 15 by the time he anticipates getting to the turnstiles. He and his son were in the front row hoping to get the shirt off Charlie, Chris Willock or "pray God, "Uncle" Albert himself". He then quotes the whole of the "pride of London verse, word perfect in a food review for The Times. A strange juxtaposition. And clearly a fan. The article ends of course with us "dumped unceremoniously out of the cup. "On the plus side, though, as the Rangers faithful sang, "We lost 2-0, who gives a f***, We're QPR, we're going up", finishing up with "we get to go home, you have to stay here"... Most of the article is about the food stop but all I can think is lucky he didn't try that for the Barnsley match as well. Finally, without being too sycophantic, I must say that Clive's writing on this site compares more than well with that just described for someone far better known and paid and born with all the connections. |
