This Labour Party are nowhere near the left, they are not even socialist any more. They are neo Liberal Thatcherites overseen by Blair and Mandelson, funded by Israel and US healthcare providers. The writing was on the wall when Starmer was parachuted into the PLP and almost immediately set about sabotaging the upcoming election and once elected leader, set about removing all traces of the left/ socialism. If I was to reproduce that 2019 PLP manifesto with all acknowledgements to Labour removed, you wouldn't doubt it if I said it was recent manifesto from a Scandinavian political party. As said earlier in the thread, what we get offered now is one of two wings from the same bird.
Barring injuries, and based on how seems to have turned the corner as a professional player I wonder what odds you'd get for him playing until he is 40? He looks fitter now than he ever has so I guess he is now training regularly... and none of his team mates trying to break his legs.
I noticed today we changed our corner routine from hitting it long and heading the ball back into the 6 yard box to duking it out with corners into the box, a plan that was doomed from the get go with the size of Owls defenders no matter who was taking the corners. A very poor ref didn't help our cause today and before the game I learned that the ref assessor today was former Norwich player Mark McGwire? sp. who was in the team that beat us, and cost us the 1st. Division title. Ominous portents indeed.
I am fairly sure I never had a good word to say about him from the day he was announced as a QPR player. I received a lot of abuse on here for it but I have yet to read a single thing about him that would make me regret my stance. I felt, and still feel the same, about candleface. Both pondlife IMO.
He was technically better than all those players you named; he could do anything they ever did but none of those could do some of the things AT did. He had more than one good season with us too. That 1st season in the EPL was only worth watching because of him and Townsend. This is a hill I would die on.
That triggered an old memory of an away game at Luton and an article in the programme had the story of a young lad who had won their ""Guess The Score" competition for their previous home game against Oxford? The reason I remember after so long was that he guessed 7-4, there was even a quote from his dad along the lines of... "are you sure son? Oh well it's your pocket money."
Which is how it should be. This is the most teamlike team we have had for many a year and it deserves better than some of the comments directed at the players.
I don't believe that it is a moratorium on criticising any players, more a combination of some fans absolutely need to have a scapegoat in the team no matter what and a sense that rising from the bottom of the table to a few points off the play offs in a couple of months is a staggering turnaround and should, no matter how we got there and who played well/ badly etc. is almost insignificant in those circumstances. I could understand the digging out if we had gone from a few points from the play offs to rock bottom but we have a team on the up, a terrific team spirit among ALL the players and going to games is no longer a dreaded event. Imagine if Madsen was to read this board; is it likely to make him feel good and spur him on or just make him retreat further into his shell? I'm half expecting the most common response to be "I don't give a flying one what he thinks, he's sh!t" Even now, after such a great performance from Paal last night there are still comments of "he was alright" but players like Field & Dunne get a pass for any errors they make. Please can we get behind all the players and do away with scapegoating them? There is ALWAYS going to be a player who is the worst in the squad but that doesn't mean we can't support him whilst he is wearing the hoops! It really does take a shine off the current form and the reaction to the Leicester defeat really does emphasise almost innate compulsion to lay into the team or players at any setback. The atmosphere at the games is so much different to the vibe on here, the fans get behind the players and now we are seeing dividends from that support.
It worked wonderfully for Jamie Mackie. I think it was one of the EPL games where the guy behind me said to his mate "Mackie always looks surprised if he is still in possession after a dribble".
Usually 2 groups of 3 around 20-25m apart firing the ball at their opposite inumber for them to control and accurately return it quickly to the next player. They don't appear to head the ball much during the drills and I wonder if this is related to the awareness of the long term damage that heading causes.
I am usually sat in the ground when the team come out for their pre match drills and it is noticeable that the defensive players are never involved in the shooting drills and I have commented that if our style of play now has defenders in shooting positions, then it would be sensible to have them practicing shooting scenarios.
