My 15 year old son, Joshua has had to endure an unsightly divorce between his parents that should never have dragged on to such a degree. He’s a good lad, polite, never in trouble, well behaved at school, respectful and a really pleasant human being. However his school work dived massively last year and his exam results absolutely tanked. He has one major love above all else, aviation. His ambition since being knee high to a grasshopper has been to be a pilot. I had started him on flying lessons at the start of this year, flying out of Solent airport. When I was told his exam results in March we had a proper one to one chat about what was needed to get his grades up ready for GCSE’s this year. I told him that the only way in which I felt would motivate him was to link flying lessons to a marked improvement. I told him I would email his various teachers and would want regular feedback. The results have been astonishing. In March for Maths he was forecasted to get grade one. He is now pushing for a five. English, two, now looking for a 6, science 3, his latest exams, his marks could not have been higher. At a recent parents evening his science teacher to quote ‘this is the greatest transformation I have ever seen in a pupil, it’s been wonderful’. So Josh has been maintaining his flying lessons and on Monday, on his 12th lesson, started to practice landing, five circuits and five touch and goes, the final three his instructor said were spot on. The aim now is for him to achieve his Private Pilots Licence as soon after his 17th birthday. I am immensely proud of my son. He must have been through hell and back over the last few years but he has held himself together with great courage. |

On his performances so far Morgan is one of the 4 or 5 that should be starting. He shows for the ball. Tracks back, looks for the right pass and isn’t hiding. The more senior players need to take a leaf out of his book. |

Andy Belk is without doubt for me useless. An example is that we pay £2million for Madsen who is weaker than water, no experience in English football and teams like Blackburn pick up Todd Cantrell for £1.6million, a player who learned his trade at Norwich in both the EFL and PL and then in Scotland. Ok, the guy may have had a few issues but if we had always worked by such values we would never have signed Stan. We also let a decent manager go, who was the perfect replacement for Warburton and in that time we have got onto our fourth manager. And that guy got Brom in the top six before unfairly being replaced by Wayne’s Rooney and now working wonders at Blackburn. No doubt Belk had a say with his laptop on this decision. |

Maybe we could poach the Wycombe manager, they’re top of the league and just won 5-0 at Stockport! Oh, just remembered the last time we went there for a manager! 😂 What a load of shïte we are. Sorry but Cifuentes and Calm are not doing it for me now. Forget the injuries, the way this team is set up, there is absolutely no effort in pressing the opposition, we sit week after week watching them pass the ball around us waiting for the inevitable opening. Boy do we need a Warnock or Warburton type to organise these bunch of losers. |

It shouldn’t take us going two goals down to start playing. We should be getting on the front foot from the start. For christs sake we are the home side. This team are not only weak but mentally weak. Morgan and Verane are about the only two who can walk off with their heads held high. |

Obviously apart from the QPR ones anybody have any particular podcasts that they enjoy listening to? Over the last year I’ve been jilted dipping into the Wittering Whitehalls, but have just discovered Kathy Burke’s Where There’s a Will There’s a Wake. PC it ain’t. Brilliantly funny. And search for the one where Paul Whitehouse is guest. |

Is there a battle wills now going on with MC an Nourry? And has Nourry been totally honest with MC. A few things I’ve noticed about the running of the club, and by that I assume Nourry. Pre-season with the messages that season ticket sales were well ahead of last season I started to count the number of seats sold, which by the West Brom match it was much quicker to count the remaining seats. Excluding the SE we was at around 13,800 and with the small number that purchased in the lower SE this took the number above 14,000. It was then clear that the number of available seats for the West Brom game that we had sold nowhere near 14,000 season tickets. Then the fans forum. Nourry was challenged about the availability of the lower SE for away supporters given that we were still sailing close to the wind with FFP. The guy was pretty much spit on with his calculations for the bigger away matches that there would be lost revenue of around £40,000. Nourry responded that the club was down by only around £11,000 and that for the Hull game the following night we had sold an additional 750 seats in that section on top of the ST holders. The lower tier was all but empty that night. With this I wonder what Nourry had been promising to MC and why was the need to tie him down so quickly to a new contract? |

Given as reported that he flew with the stuff from Bangkok his level of stupidity is even higher than I thought. The Thai’s don’t take too kindly to drug smugglers. |

Number 8 is a bit unfair. When you have someone like Paul Smyth who crosses before he looks or thinks then it is hard for a forward to anticipate. There was one instance late in the game when Smyth hit a ball that was neither cross or shot, which had no bend or direction for a forward to get onto. It also boils my pîss the lack of pulling the ball back from the byline for oncoming midfielders to strike a shot, although based on yesterdays shooting I suspect that H&S for the supporters in the upper tier have to be considered! |

Been saying this for years. I cannot see the logic of an over crowded penalty box which makes life harder for the keeper. I’d stick three players on the halfway line which means the other side either chance it or match up. More space for a keeper to gather a cross and of course you have an out all thus reducing the chance of having to defend a second phase. Watched the corners today that Pompey had in the first half and the problems that were highlighted in the feature earlier in the week was still there for all to see except this time the ball fell to players that didn’t have the ability to shoot properly. Our set up for corners is terrible and invites trouble. |

Second that. Just spent my first spring/summer all but retired. Used to hate Sunday evenings but now it doesn’t matter. Every day is a Saturday for me now as I used to tell clients coming up to retirement. 😁 |

| Forum Reply | Growing Old Part 704 - Coffee at 10:13 11 Oct 2024
Didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 49. Now got a nespresso coffee maker (for the smaller pods) and a milk frother attached. Best kitchen toy I’ve ever bought. Start the day with a flat white and then another for breakfast. Went out with my other half yesterday morning and ended up in Costa having an Americano with an extra shot. Drink for the flavour, the more bitter the better. The caffeine doesn’t seem to affect me, although prior to liking coffee I did drink a lot of tea which evidently has more caffeine in it than coffee. Tip for a line who has a nespresso machine that takes the smaller pod, but them in Lidl’s. 20 pods for £2.79. Have a variety of strengths as well. |

Although not the greatest of England captains he was still prolific with the bat and carried the team on many occasions. Suspect he still has a few more years in him yet to beat Tendulkars record. |

Marti, please don’t tell me again that the players did not do as you asked of them or any other lame excuses. This match and much of what has happened so far this season is on you and your team selections and the way you want them to play. It doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked all season and I suspect if you continue it will not work for the rest of the season. I have been bored stiff so far watching Rangers this season, ponderous, lethargic, no movement, no pace and not a lot else either. It’s all on you as a manager. The first goal today was down to zonal marking at a corner and the cross could have gone to any of half a dozen Derby players and they would have had a free header. The second goal was schoolboy stuff, not much difference to that fourth goal that Blackburn got against us under Ainsworth last season. Utter dog toffee the whole lot has been apart from maybe Nardi, Dunne, Cook and Frey. |

We are awful. Apart from a couple of halves this season we have been second best in every game. We have no idea on playing out from the back, no strength in midfield, Madsen is especially weak, and no creativity up front. Dembele loses interest. Andersen is just poor and to be honest I haven’t got a clue what Cifuentes is trying to achieve with this team. Whatever it is he needs to abandon it and get back to the way we played towards the back end of next season otherwise we are no further forward than we were under Ainsworth. And to be honest this season has so far has been as bad as the first part of last season and we were all over wanting Ainsworth out. I’m actually getting fed up with Cifuentes and his style of play. Would really be a right bummer for teams that have spent well in excess of £1billion on transfer fees and also secured players on multi year contracts! |

Check out the Wolves goal against Liverpool at the weekend. Exactly the same scenario at the start where the Wolves player robs the Liverpool centre half. No issues from the ref in allowing play to continue. |
