I don't think loyalty comes into it. Stephens has had contracts at Saints that far exceed his ability, so he was never going to go anywhere.
I am no fan of Martin, but fail to see how he has been hung out to dry by the Manager. After all Stephens is one of RM's favourites. The negative response since Stephens got sent off is all of his own making. [Post edited 2 Oct 18:12]

He has definitely raised his media profile since getting paid from Chelsea. Not sure I read too much into him being a pundit for our game, however, It was noticeable how he went very easy on any criticism of Saints.
I would have him at Saints, but still have some reservations.
He did a good job at Brighton but was blessed with some very good players. His time at Chelsea was a nightmare, and makes some compelling arguments for why it went wrong at Chelsea. However, he had a lot of very good players at Chelsea and failed to get the results their squad should have delivered. That was down to him. |

I think this is a valid point and I still believe many of this squad are good players. It is down to how we set up and style of play.
It doesn't really matter who we have up front if there is no service, and the club are happy to play around with the ball in our own half creating nothing, and with an obsession with possession stats. [Post edited 2 Oct 7:36]

I still believe we have a squad that can survive, but we have to change the style of play , stop this obsession with playing out from the back at all cost, and not play players out of position and hugging the wings, with no end product. |

I see Harwood-Bellis is captain tonight. Downes was skipper for Ipswich game. Why the need to change ? RM can't seem to settle on anything.

Responsible for recruitment since 2021. Not exactly a glowing report for recruitment for Saints in that period. I don't know much about the guy but good riddance based on some the crap we have bought in last 3 years if he has blagged his way into Arsenal based on this CV. |

Totally agree.
Add to this Interest rate increases, that most developed countries experienced, and where people thought the land of easy money would last for ever. Those of a certain age on here will remember rates of 15% in the 80's.

The DWP assessment to determine whether people are fit to work, needs to be tightened up.
Too many people have found ways to navigate their way through the system and some Doctors are signing people off too easy (sometimes probably without even seeing them).
I sympathise with those that have fallen on hard times and lost jobs etc, and they deserve all the help they can get to get them back to work. However, those that believe the benefits system is an alternative to work, need to be called out or forced to do voluntary work. [Post edited 19 Sep 17:26]
