Yes, having enjoyed a lucrative career for a decade in England and France, Barbet is now reportedly earning £47,000 per week (£2,444,000 per year) playing for the Saudi Club Al-Riyadh. Very precarious indeed.

The OP started the thread based on an article published by Football League World. If it was good enough for you then, it's good enough for you now. As for November, I already told you that's your date which doesn't interest me in the slightest. Learn to read.

I note that your thirst for evidence doesn't extend to you providing any to support your conspiracy theory that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. Instead, you continue to deny the obvious through attempts at cancel culture. That culture doesn't wash with me. No amount of "well, we don't know the details", or focusing on an irrelevant date which you invented, or claiming that clear evidence is clickbait, will win you the day.

As you're clearly both stubborn and ignorant, I'll take this opportunity to summarise and close proceedings.

KensalT (KT) believes that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. This is despite the fact that QPR offered Yoann a contract which he rejected (something which he also did at Brentford). KT insists that a solid, reliable defender with 7 years experience in the Championship, in the prime of his physical life at 28/29, and available on a free, received no other offers to remain in England. When presented with irrefutable independent evidence, KT simply dismisses it as clickbait. KT also reckons that Barbet never considered a return to France until the last minute despite the fact that Barbet is French, his partner is French, they have a young son, and ultimately Barbet left QPR to return to his boyhood club, Bordeaux. When challenged repeatedly to offer up evidence to support his conspiracy theory, KT provides none. In desperation KT leans on the opinion of a fellow poster (no offence to that poster).

Benny_the_ball (BTB) disputes KT's notion that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. BTB provided evidence that shows QPR offered Barbet a contract which the player rejected. BTB also provided evidence that Barbet left Brentford on a free having made the same noises during negotiations before rejecting a new contract. Given that Barbet left QPR to join Bordeaux, BTB suggested that the rumours linking Barbet to a return to France may have had some legs. Despite actually moving to France and subsequently spending 2 years there, KT still can't see the link (or doesn't want to). QED.

In short, BTB provided a lucid, coherent argument supported by clear evidence. Meanwhile, KT continues to steadfastly stand by his conspiracy theory that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk despite offering no supporting evidence and the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I'll leave KT to die on that hill.

Ah, carry on camper! Nice to hear from you again. Not your final, final word on the subject then?

"You insist that Barbet wanted to go home to France in November 2021."

I said no such thing. Those are your words and your dates. I said that the fact that he returned to France supports the rumour. Common sense dictates that returning to France would've been one option he and his family will have contemplated but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was the only option or that a final decision had been made. Given his contract situation, his young family, and the fact that he is French, it's only natural that he would consider the idea. Others on this thread seem to understand the logic, only you appear to be struggling with it. As for evidence, he actually made the move. What more evidence do you require?

"You insist Barbet had offers from English clubs in 2022."

https://the72.co.uk/2022/04/29/qpr-defender-yoann-barbet-attracting-interest-fro

https://www.westlondonsport.com/sport/austin-among-players-potentially-leaving-q

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/how-is-yoann-barbet-getting-on-since-leaving-q

He had offers from other EFL clubs as explained and evidenced above. Are you seriously suggesting that an experienced and reliable left-footed centre-back in his prime who is available on a free had no other offers whatsoever? That's utterly illogical and preposterous.

And before asking folk for evidence how about producing some of your own to support your wild conspiracy theories? After all, this whole conversation started because you insist that QPR just allowed Barbet to walk, despite clear evidence to the contrary. Come on, camper. Let's be 'aving ya.

Ah, there it is! Resorting to inane insults. A great show of strategy and intelligence, I must say. You should've done everyone a favour and listened to yourself when earlier you said it was your "final word on the subject". But hey, whatever makes you feel good. Knock yourself out, camper!

This is the softer side of negotiations that tends to get overlooked. The temptation is to paint some sort of Mexican stand-off between club, player and agent but at the end of the day football players are human beings with families to take into account. At the time of his departure from QPR, Yoann was a married man with a 2 year-old son. Perhaps his wife didn't want to raise a family in London? If so, who could blame her. I believe they have another on the way and, as you say, he's now in Saudi securing their future.

As I said earlier, actions speak louder than words.

You stated in your previous post that it would be your "final word on the subject". Lo and behold, you're back for more. So forgive me if I don't place any credence on those words.

Similarly, I take Barbet's words with a pinch of salt because ultimately he rejected QPR's offer and left on a free to join Bordeaux. Whilst at Brentford he made all the same noises before rejecting their contract offer and leaving on a free (ultimately to join their West London rivals of all clubs).

https://www.football.london/brentford-fc/yoann-barbet-update-brentford-future-15

https://www.football.london/brentford-fc/barbet-admission-reason-leaving-brentfo

As for other offers, if you think for a second that an experienced left-footed, ball-playing, centre-back who made 221 appearances in English football over 7 years, someone who at 29 was in the prime of his physical life, a player who played every minute of the 2020-21 Championship season, and to top it all off was available on a free, that he didn't receive any other offers to remain in English football, then you're clearly delusional. Any agent worth his salt would put that offer forward to the player regardless. It's then up to the player whether he is interested in pursuing that option.

Frankly, I don't need you to admit to me that you were wrong, the facts speak for themselves. If you want to keep believing that QPR "simply allowed Yoann Barbet to walk away", you carry on camper. I'm more interested in what's happening with Jimmy Dunne.

Similar to Barbet, I don't believe that QPR will simply allow Jimmy to walk away. I trust that the club is trying everything within its power to convince Dunne to stay but if he chooses to go, that's his decision and his prerogative. If he stays, happy days.

Indeed. Plus throw in the fact that modern products are computer controlled and it becomes easier to see why some folk don't bother. Cars are a a prime example. In my youth so many men would spend their Sundays tinkering on their pride and joy armed with little more than a Haynes manual. As cars were largely mechanical, diagnosing a fault required a basic understanding of the engineering involved, a modicum of patience, and a methodical approach to the problem. Now there are multiple ECUs and sensors controlling increasingly complex features that we don't really need. Many garages just read fault codes that often don't reveal the root cause and therefore some mechanics struggle to identify the offending part. You can end up replacing parts that weren't faulty in the first place thus increasing the cost of repair.

I couldn't care less what GaryH said. It's irrelevant and gives no weight to your conspiracy theory.

It's funny how some folk have a tendency to lean on the "well we don't know the details" smokescreen whenever their argument gets dismantled by facts. You can't have it both ways, Kensal. On the one hand, you're dismissive of the fact that QPR made Barbet a contract offer simply because you weren't privy to the details but, on the other hand, you're happy to make wild, unsubstantiated claims as to the reasons why Yoann left even though you weren't privy to the details.

As the time-honoured sayings go, actions speak louder than words and the proof is in the pudding. The only facts are these:

(1) QPR offered Barbet a new contract which he rejected.
(2) Despite also receiving other offers to remain in English football Barbet left QPR to join Bordeaux.

Neither of these facts justify your hypothesis that QPR simply allowed Barbet to walk away. They do, however, support the rumours that were circulating earlier in the same season that Barbet wanted to return to his native France. If you can't make the connection between those rumours and the fact that Barbet actually returned to France, then more fool you.

It's becoming typical of a growing throwaway culture across a range of products such as cars, appliances, tech, clothes, and shoes. I think it's a combination of factors. The gap between cost of repair and replace has closed plus there's the added comfort of warranty that comes with new items. Specialist repair shops are disappearing from our high streets. In some cases, the change might be driven by tightening regulations. As a society we're more time poor these days so there's less appetite to repair. Personally I always try to repair myself if the fix is relatively straightforward and the information is readily available on the internet. However, even with DIY repairs there comes a tipping point at which the saving doesn't justify the time and effort involved, unless the item in question is rare or has sentimental value.

Thanks for the links. So, according to your evidence, the club did indeed make Barbet an offer which he rejected. Given this, it's unfair and inaccurate to suggest that QPR simply allowed him to walk away.

You neglected to mention that Barbet left QPR to re-join Bordeaux, a Ligue 2 team where he'd previously risen through the youth ranks. That would support the notion that he was keen to return to his native France.

After the run the team has been on they deserve a pass on this one. Fingers crossed it's a blip but at least it tempers the heightened expectations. The acid test will be how the players react at Millwall.

Let's also not forget that Wednesday's last 2 matches were a Yorkshire derby at Leeds followed by a home game against Bristol City in midweek. A grand total of 74 miles travelled. Meanwhile, QPR had a 468 mile round trip to Plymouth followed by a 406 mile round trip to Hull in midweek. We definitely should of been (and were) more tired then them in the second half.

I think an issue with the former pros should become referees argument is that the game (and indeed it's rules) is always evolving and, moreover, differs across leagues. There's a risk that the former pro referee could be using his interpretation, based on his experiences, rather than applying the letter of the law.

Very good news indeed. The lad has been a great servant over the years so one injury affected half-season isn't going to cloud my judgement. We already know his attributes and he's now entering his prime. Congrats Ilias and credit to the board. Now go get the Dunne deal done.

Chalk and cheese in terms of commitment, professionalism and achievements however I appreciate the underlying point.

What puzzles me is why this is even a point of discussion? I've seen no evidence of a possible return from either the club or the player himself. Until I do, this is a completely hypothetical thread and therefore a pointless debate.

Where has this idea that the club allowed Barbet to walk away come from? As far as I can recall Barbet had his heart set on returning to his native France.

The bottom line is no one can force a player to re-sign. I trust that the club has tabled a decent offer to retain Jimmy's services. If he signs I'll be delighted but if he doesn't, that's completely his prerogative.
