It took me a while to get to this, and most interesting in light of summer acquisitions. Cifuentes is clearly consolidating from back to front, as was his approach from the minute he arrived. Clearly still light one effective striker (yes, yes, who isn’t?), and maybe that’s the last piece in the Cifuentes puzzle. |

Excellent synopsis of where we are now and what the future might bring. I do fear however that there is a lot of downside risk moving into next season: Cook a year older and cannot repeat this season’s heroics, Clarke-Salter cannot stay injury-free, Chair cannot reverse his two-year post World Cup decline, Andersen can’t get back to the player he was when he joined the club. And that’s before the challenge of finding a keeper worth keeping and more or less completely
overhauling the forward line.
There’s only so much more juice Cifuentes can squeeze out of this stone; effective and affordable recruitment will be the key difference maker-next season, and that is not guaranteed. |

Other thoughts.
1. The estimated annual disallowable costs of £4 million remains the elephant in the room;
2. Getting down from these last two years’ losses to around £5 million for ‘23/24 would represent a herculean achievement, all things considered;
3. Any Eze sell-on windfall could be an FFP game-changer moving forward, especially if it can be booked into ‘24/25 (not ‘23/24) and thereby contribute to two straight years of improved FFP numbers instead of just one. |

Just can’t see where the goals are coming from. Not enough creativity, delivery or penetration from midfield or wide, Dykes looking more and more like the second coming of Conor Washington, and Armstrong no longer the phenom-in-the-making we all hoped for when he broke through. Crunch time. |
