Marseille have turned down the chance to sign him, anyone think he should be given a clean slate and a chance to strengthen our midfield?

not for me. He doesn't want to play for us, we are not a big enough club for him and his ego so I can see another season loan with a small % of his wage covered. I can't see a scenario where he plays and we are successful so we are all better off without him.

Also, he is not that good and is definitely not the future of our club. You can't compare him to what we have as he wouldn't have improved us last season. Maybe the odd game but something would have happened and the club would suffer again.

The mistake in buying him has been made lets not make it worse. He's not going to change, let's move on and hopefully Joey will to.

So Barton wants us to pay him £3.5m, release him from the last 2 years of his contract and then allow him to leave on a free?

And this is after we have funded 75% of his wages throughout his little jaunt to the South of France?

Am i the only one who would rather force him to honour his contract, even if it costs us more in the long run?

If we want him to go well have to pay him off or just loan him out again for a year and continue to pay his wages, either way it is going to be expensive

If the board were stupid enough to give Barton a 4 year contract, then you cannot blame him for making them honour it.

The cheaper option, bring him home, train with the under 18's, wait for the explosion, sack him.

Stand strong and refuse to pay him. Im sure he said on Twitter he'd take a pay cut to leave, never moving for money again etc. It's probably just his agent looking to squeeze more money out of us. Worst comes to worst we can drop him to the reserves, put him up for loan then try again in Jan.

We hold the aces here.Offer him a mill. He doesn't want to play for us so either take it and get on with your career or sit around for 2 years, and most will have forgotten him.

I wouldn't even offer him that.
Either way the board look like they won't get their ££ back on him, that's for sure!
Just keep him here in that case and rot, like Florent Malouda (and that geezer didn't even do anything wrong, as far as I can see)

He'll be able to catch up on Nietzsche. And his spelling.

He will,as he stated be taking a 50 % cut as the money he would settle on is half of his contract.Best move for the club would be to get him back and playing lets face it he would be formidable in the championship. This situation is of the clubs making for giving him a 4 year contract which is an issue that will have to be addressed with many other players on the books before the season starts.

We really have learnt nothing if you believe that Barton will be formidable. He's stated that he wants to leave, he's also said that he doesn't feel responsible for getting us relegated so doesn't see why he should have to go into the Championship to get us back up. He's also said that he only moved here for the money. What out of those statements make you think he'll be anything other than half hearted if he was forced to stay here then put into the team. How do you think the other players who do want to be here and want to get us promoted will feel about him being chucked in ahead of them when he's made the above comments?

He's made his bed now he can leave, rot in the reserves or go out on loan.

I think he'll end up back now. As far as I can make out. He's got no problem with Fernandes or Amit. Hughes has gone and his options semi limited.
No way should we loan him out again. We're not running a loan service for other clubs. He's our player and he should play for us.

I haven't had a conversation with anyone at QPR since February. When I told them Marseille had offered me 3 years. That was last I heard.

I agree with a lot of what you say although I still believe he could do a good job on the field.the fact that there will be a lot new players coming in and out the team don't see there being a problem. Not sure letting a 7 million investment play in the reserves works well for the club.

I'm sure putting him in the team would be just as disruptive. There's always a chance that he would come back into the team, work hard and make a go of it. It just seems very unlikely. I reckon he would reduce his demands after a few months stuck in the reserves so it could save us money long term.

I bet his agent has been in contact though on his behalf. Like I said before it's most likely his agent trying to get as much as he can out of us, not actually Barton himself.

I am forever amazed that players and managers alike are so rarely disciplined or sacked at football clubs, either for attitude or performance.

In a corporate environment people are measured on performance and attitude/behavioirs - the normal "9-blocker" view of working life.

Players and managers are almost always paid off, unless the situation is extreme - including for terrible performance or bad and divisive attitude.

When one of our players (Adel was it?) was repeatedly fined for not turning up for training, why was this only a fine in each case and not a disciplinary matter? If the fines didnt matter because he was paid so much, why no formal warning - or dismissal? So he might end up signing a contract elsewhere - at least he will be off the wage bill, and someone else can take the risk with his bad attitude.

Get him back, make him play, and if the situation arises take him through the normal disciplinary proecdure. Formal verbal warning, formal written warning, and out. Just like the rest of us at work.

Its all very well having a "transfer policy" - about time we applied a bit of normality too.

That is exactly what I have beenn saying recently, why should football have any different rules in employment than the corporate normal world. It also astonishes me that he has not been spoken to since February. He is a asset on shit loads of money that we should be in constant dialogue with. He should always feel valued and wanted by the club as he has another two years left and if someone wants him they put in a offer, or otherwise he is told that pre season starts on 1st July and he should have been weighed in before the close of season like all the other players and told what is expected of him during the time off.
