SAINTS MEMORIES - YOU'RE FAT AND YOUR BIRD'S A SLAG 19:02 - Feb 27 with 3864 viewsArgyBargy1982

What a great day. The look on his face when she turned around, lifted her blue PE type skirt and flashed her bloomers. He also had a slightly confused look on his face when he picked himself up off the floor outside the ground having been decked as soon as Rangers fans left the ground. And then to find out in AKUTRs that they were called Mr and Mrs Hoare. Pricelees! Skid marks on her knickers; You’re going down on the Chelsea …
Any other memories from that day?

One of my favourite memorys of Southampton is Justin Channing scoring a late winner, and me and my mate's forgetting we were in the home end and going ape.

It then all went a bit tits up

I was there on that day and remember that well (what was the score that day?)but I have only sh1t memories.

1. Colin Clarke's debut i think and a hatrick against us.
2. Paul Parker getting his leg broken on a wet mid-week night in the Zenith data Systems Cup
3. I also seem to recall a 5-2 defeat (may be the same game as No 1 above) and, this is weird, for some reason I thknk Gary Chivers scored one of our goals. THis may be wrong, it is just one of those things that my head says is right yet I can't remember what I had for brekky this morning so I wouldn't put money on it

My favorite 2 are the 4-1 with that pile driver from Martin Allen to get the ball rolling.Secondly the 2-1 when Blackstock and the late Ray Jones scored in a 2-1 victory.
Oh hang on there's the Kevin Brock free kick in the late 80s when we started the season so well before Barnes took us to the cleaners.

Not sure if it was a late winner but it was indeed a winner - I believe Sir Les set it up? I spoke to Sammy Lee (then of Saints) a couple of weeks later and he commented how good the Rs were that day. Sinton got the other one?

Apart from the fat slag, my favourite memory is calling out to Tim Flowers "Coo-eee Timmeee"

The 3-2 win was terrific - Dave in his prime scoring twice!

Ken Monkou rolling a back-pass past Beasant for Les to tap in for a 1-0 win at the Dell. We were in the home seats at the side. I never complained about the crush in the Ellerslie after that day, the queue for the toilets at half-time was like a Bombay train in rush-hour. Cracking atmospheric old ground though.

Tim Flowers lol

That was back in the day when we used to clap every away keeper, lulling him into a false sense of security he used to clap us back only to then be greated by shouts of TIMMEEE

I think he saw the funny side - not every time though

I've found a team sheet for the weekend - anyone interested ?

About Feb/March 1990, night game, Maddix scored a blinder at the away end but can't remember the final score. Back in the pub after for a swift session.Train home to Waterloo rather the worse for wear. Woken up by train cleaners at about 1am so missed the last tube. Got home eventually about 2.30 via nightbuses.

I remember going to the Dell for a League Cup game on a cold miserable, wet, mid-week evening around the mid-late 80's. There was no cover on the away end, my jacket was as waterproof as a sponge and the home fans were singing "does your mother know you're here". Funnily enough, mine didn't!

Southampton made a back pass to the keeper but it got held up in the mud and Gary Bannister ran on to it and got fouled and I think he scored the resulting penalty. I think we won the game but can't rememeber.

I just remember getting home cold & wet at something like 1-2am and my Mum going ballistic as to where I was that evening lol!

I remember going down there at The Dell and Channing scored and I think it was the same match when Colin Clarke scored. But match aside, in The Cowherds, on the way in, the pub was rammed full of rangers when three Saints fans with shirts and scarves pushed their way to the bar. Just as they had bought their drinks the whole pub started singing very slowly 'Oh when the Rs, go marching in' they turned around and realised that they were the only 3 in there and the whole pub was looking at them, the looks on their faces.

RIP: Sniffer, Doug and Pat
