Another pathetic 0-3 result courtesy of Sports Republic’s parallel universe 17:37 - Sep 14 with 1637 views | saintmark1976 | Seriously, what planet are the Club’s owners and management currently inhabiting ? How is it humanly possible to have a net spend of £70 million in a transfer window and end up with so many interchangeable nonentities in the same squad ? Apart from Ramsdale and K W P, Russell Martin when selecting the team, may just as well have put the other players names on pieces of paper and asked his girlfriend to draw them out from a top hat. Utterly baffling as to how the owners and management can be so continually inept and remain in position.

Are you saying that the owners should tell the manager and CEO etc who we should buy ? Basically the Manager will have the final say on who comes in, the owners supply the money, the club's recruitment team identify players in the positions that the manager wants and then finally the manager says yay or nay.

True Nick, but we can blame Sports Republic for the appointments that they make i.e. the decision makers who do control the transfers. For me the problem with this recruitment window was that we got our priorities wrong. Once we'd sorted out the obvious issues like Downes, then the priorities had to be a goalkeeper and a centre forward. Congrats to the club for doing an excellent job on the goalkeeper, but we've ended up looking very flaky at centre forward, while bringing in countless players in other positions, many of which will never be used in real games. As you say the manager has the final say and I think this one is down to him. It is obvious that CF is not a priority for him. Sometimes he even plays without one and when we do have players who might be able to do the role he puts them on the wing. I can't see us scoring enough goals in the PL with that approach.

Nick, where did I suggest that Sports Republic didn’t supply the money ? That’s right I didn’t. I stated that collectively our Owners and their Management ( obviously including the Board, C E O and Team Manager ) have not done their job correctly. If they had, after four games we wouldn’t be one off the bottom of the league on goal difference having scored only one goal from a defender. If you disagree that’s fine by me, but I suggest somewhat difficult to justify to the thousands of us at St Mary’s on Saturday who witnessed a team who couldn’t muster one Saints attempt on goal in the second half. £ 70 million well spent? Only in some parallel universe perhaps.

Between the four of them they have scored 24 goals in 165 PL games. That equates to your entire strike force scoring once every 7 games. People on here are saying it’s because of the way Martin is using them but he wasn’t their manager before when they were vastly underperforming. Looking at the players who SR have signed but the managers haven’t played them tells you the manager has little say. I’m sure Nathan Jones didn’t say go out and get me Mislav Orsic. As I say I don’t know who’s responsible for the quality of signings but I did remember someone at Brentford saying Ankersen selected a lot of the players but had someone above him to over rule when he made a bad choice which apparently he often did Clearly there has been a massive issue with our transfer policy and I might be wrong but I suspect it’s SRs fault more than the managers

Why would Nathan Jones not want Orsic, he had just played in the World Cup for Croatia in which they had finished 3rd. Clearly there was some sort of issue after Orsic had joined Saints. Russell Martin was shopping in the price range we could afford, there are probably plenty of other players he would have preferred before those we signed, but not a chance of signing them. Ankersen was the co director of football at Brentford, he worked in tandem with another co director, but there was only the Brentford owner he was above him, whom he had worked with at Midjutland.. We say a massive issue, but for every real failure there have been massive successes, Lavia for instance

One has been an outstanding success, but the jury is still out on the rest. Bazunu was strong in our 22 game run Edozie got 6 goals and 3 assists last season so made a reasonable contribution. Shea Charles was young, but he too made a decent contribution last season playing in 32 games. Larios could well come good, perhaps he will play at Everton this evening.

Bazunu, Edozie and Charles are not PL standard. Larios looks too lightweight from the long time ago he played.

The 22-game run included Bazunu chucking in an injury-time equaliser at Watford, if memory serves. I will be amazed if we ever see Larios again in a Saints shirt. Did we really spend about £10 million on him??!!??
