It's the whole thing, the attack is too slow and predictable, the defence phaff about with the ball too much inviting the press, mistakes happen and goals are conceded. We saw plenty of that evidence here. And just like here he doubled down saying he'd rather lose his way than win playing another way. Well if he doesn't get an improvement soon he's out of a job. He'll get a nice pay off though and some other team will give hima job, they always do no matter the record.

Pressure mounting on Russ. on 20:41 - Sep 14 by Dr_Winston | " You can debate until the cows come home the overall value of his football philosophy, but a major issue for all of his teams - every one of them - is they can't defend at all. An absolute organisational rabble. So, either his philosophy doesn't believe defending is particularly important - in which case he's a certified nutjob - or he's not a good enough coach to train his teams how to properly defend within his set-up. Because it's not a statistical fluke that his sides concede 60+ goals per season. It's entirely baked into being a Russell Martin team. " I promise I'll stop now. |
We scored a lot of really good goals and on the rare occasions it clicked it was really good but you can’t defend the way we did. We must have held the world record for amount of goals conceded directly from our own goal kicks. Absolute madness.

We often created more chances for the oppo than we did for ourselves, and indeed more than they created for themselves too. It was lunatic.

Not talking about switching to route 1 but to add/subtract urgency to get forward as the real game situation dictates - countless times we were losing/drawing as the second half ticked away & yet we were seemingly content to knock it around in our half regardless of the fact that the opposition were happy to sit in a low block in front of us as they were happy with what they had. For me a complete lack of game intelligence for the sake of his philosophy/principles.

The use of the word Philosophy in football mystifies me, its fing football, these managers need to forget the nonsense and concentrate on getting their teams to win football matches, its a load of absolute poppycock and jus a word along with other for the media to pick up on, I can just hear Shanks, Paisley, Fergie and Busby talk about philosophies when talking about football, anyone heard Pep or Klopp ever say it, FME's

All Swansea players should be able to receive the ball in tight spaces control it immediately and find and player in the same colour shirt and place the ball either where they are in space or where they are moving to. Nico Williams in the Wales game was put through one on one v Montenegro and blew the chance at full pace because his control was poor. I love Nico and the energy he has but Bale and Bellamy would have scored and made it look easy. It was not of course but explains why Liverpool let him go perhaps?. He is young enough to improve but not with out a super focus. The whole process of Martin's two years should be that the likes of Cooper Grimes Fulton Cullen and the player Martin had can all do this after months of perfecting it. Theoretically Williams can now benefit from this conditioning by Martin while being a bit more focused on attacking. [Post edited 15 Sep 16:10]

Well it dpends on the strength of the pass, the angle, was the player expecting the ball etc but I'd generally agree. We spent so long just eeping possession it should only be a case of tweaking, looking for a more attacking pathway, a less boring, defensive style. I think we still need 2/3 players though.

You're comparing the finishing of a world class forward like Bale (I know he started as a full back earlier in his career) and Bellamy - to a fullback like Neco?? Of course - don't take into consideration the weather and the waterlogged pitch!! Plus you think "perhaps" Liverpool let him go because of his ball control and finishing?? 🤔
