He can't be as ineffective as Cullen was yesterday so let's get him up to speed.

He had a decent chance late on, but placement wasn’t good. Keeper saved well tho.

I may have been a bit harsh but he really needs to sharpen up when the chances come imo .

I’d play every one of our first team at one stage or another tonight to give them more match practice. That said, with the depth of squad we’ve got there’ll probably be no choice😒

Swansea City v Gillingham Match day thread (now updated) on 10:19 - Aug 13 with 6016 views | RichardO | Really need to get our defensive mindset sorted , we have stopped Grimes being the last man on our attacking corners and had the likes of Key and Ronald made the last man to defend against break aways and yet in open we are not putting these safe guards in place as we push forward from the back. For example under Martin he eventually realised if he was to let Manning go forward as he often did he had to have Ollie Cooper to cover for him otherwise we were left exposed. Great to see Tymon and Key push on but when the centre halves then get sucked forward there is no cover we let Grimes come deep to cover but we don't let him do the covering at the corners so why are we relying on him to do it in open play. Players while in defensive positions taking too many touches being hassled into mistakes leading to goal scoring chances, if a player has the chance to play it to another player or goalie with his first touch great but if not put it out of play to regroup or into safety down the pitch into space s which give our forwards a chance to get on the ball, don't pretend you're Lionel Messi. How many times did Cabango get caught on Saturday doing something he wouldn't have thought of a couple of years after learning from his mistakes but is now back doing it again. Defensive mindset get the ball in safe areas as soon as possible. Downes went from a player who looked to get forward but ended up doing a lot of covering because he had the pace required, then Grimes would join him to do two yard passes, so very little left in the midfield, still happening. Really think Grimes should now be playing the number 10 role and letting other like Franco and another player do the bulk of leg work and covering would say Fulton but as all movement and quick tempo is stymied as Grimes drops too deep Fulton becomes lost. Grimes also gets caught in no man's land unable to make descions does he push forward to close players down or drop deep to protect the centre halves invariably dropping deep slowing everything down. The only player who seems to shake Grimes out of himself is Allen, why because he has more experience than Grimes and knows when in the midfield the tempo must be better and Grines follows his lead, if Allen is not there Grimes becomes the main man again and slows everything down hence inviting pressure. Still early days for Williams this season but this game is a chance to try something different with most of the same player but a strong team so if it doesn't work initially he can change things during the game. Would like to see us not going out to a lower division's team .

Also the deeper we go in this competition the greater the opportunities to try our youngsters from the U21's in the first team - it could be the making of one or two .

I’m amazed he’ s rubbished so often .Fall day/ scapegoat…it’s him. He’s been buggered about too many times Ok,he’s limited, but that can be said for Captain Grimes . Our ciach has said about tonight “ we must play better and win in front of our fans” Now here’s a question for his fans …Don’t you think that sounds ever so patronising ,bland and trite . He’s going to pmoff people very soon with more of this crap .

Yes he made a couple of clearances one certainly kept us in the game but you would expect that - it's his job after all ! What you don't expect is the dawdling in possession and poor passing putting us into all kinds of bother coupled with desperate clumsy tackles giving away free kicks in dangerous positions.

Only used Cabango as an example because he didn't use to do it, he is a no nonsense centre half who does need a teammate to cover alongside him, he is one of our better defenders he had to cover Darling's same type of mistakes early on in Darling's career here. Cabango has pinged some lovely cross field balls, played nice balls into space for Ronald first came here, score goals from corners and for the most part defends well what he is not adept at is three or four touch football while under pressure. You got to look at how the team is being setup up and defensively it has been poor since Steve Cooper left. Corners have seemed to be turn but then spoiled by U turns being made. I’d say they should all get a run out throughout the 90 but not all at the same time.
