No Hat Tricks scored in SPL this season. Favourite Hat Tricks Dale or otherwise and also any favourite Dale based Hat Trick stats.

Chris Dagnall's made in the space of about 10 minutes after coming on as sub following a long injury layoff. Can't remember the date/opposition, but they were scored at the Sandy Lane end

It was against Rotherham on 24th March 2008 - also my favourite!

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

The hat trick which first springs to mind for me is Simmo's at Wrexham in a 5-2 win. Can remember it being a very sunny day and all walking away from that very happy!

There seemed to be a good few hat-tricks during the Hill era but, prior to that, the ones that spring to mind are Paul Simpson’s v Wrexham in a cracking 5-2 win; Louie Moulden’s dad in a 5-2 win over Darlington; the mighty Paul Connor in a 6-0 win against Carlisle; Andy Morris v someone (it was such a shock I’ve forgotten the opposition); and Jamie Taylor’s v Hartlepool in a 4-0 home win.

I seem to remember Dave Lancaster, Andy Flounders and that imperious goalscorer (!) Gareth Griffiths all getting hat-tricks too.

Griffiths got his in an FL Trophy game against Scarborough.
Am I right in remembering that he had scored two and then, when Dale were awarded a penalty late on, he was given the ball to complete his hat-trick?

Dennis Butler at Halifax boxing day 1970. We had lost 5 straight and at the wrong end of Table. Halifax were going great and we stuffed them 4-1. Halifax went on to lose only 3 more games all season and finish third (only two promoted). We went on a 12 game unbeaten run in the league and of course beat Coventry in the Cup.

And to add to the legend…Dennis was found to have played with a hairline fracture.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Thanks, so Chris Dagnall equalled it then

Is that the most by a Dale player, or did someone like Albert Whitehurst score more hat-tricks?

I’d completely forgotten about Terry Melling’s hat-trick.
He’d arrived the previous September to score goals and hadn’t really done so; he got three in one game and Dale went and bought Tony Buck!
I think we’d lost at Workington over Christmas but after that couldn’t stop scoring. Even Norman Whitehead scored with a header in this one!
What stuck in my mind as a 14 year old was the conundrum that such crap opponents played in such a massive stadium.
The way that Park Avenue was allowed to disappear as a venue was scandalous and that includes the county cricket ground next door.

Andy Morris for the comedy, Daggers for the iconic status.

A stark reminder of leaner times and a different game that we went almost nine years without a hat trick in the 1970s...
