Fylde Teamsheet on 04:26 - Jan 2 by TalkingSutty | On first hearing the rumour that Nevitt was injured the sceptic in me immediately took my mind back to the fiasco we had with Ethan Brierley when he suddenly disappeared from the building and the team suffered massively as a result. A injury or illness was mentioned at the time, then we found out later he had been training at another club who it transpired were under a transfer embargo. Yesterday was the day the January transfer window opened,so his name not being on the team sheet didn't come as a massive surprise to me, I half expected him to be wrapped in cotton wool, especially after listening to the Chairman and Richard Knight at the AGM. There was no mention of Nevitt being injured in McNulty's post match interview after the boxing day game and he was seen celebrating with the players pile on during the 93rd minute goal. Having said that, the manager seemed genuine during his interview yesterday and i dont believe he would tell lies to the fans about such a serious injury. A eight week diagnosis means he won't be able to complete a medical during January so will now remain at the club until the summer at least. It's a blow regarding the finances but also for the lad himself and ankle ligament damage doesn't suddenly rectify itself overnight unfortunately. It was a major blow to the team because a win yesterday would have put us up to fifth place in the league table with a home game against bottom club Kidderminster next, a great chance to start to nail down a play off spot. The team yesterday looked like they'd had the stuffing and belief knocked out of them, the managers post match interview also reflected that, absolutely no positives apart from praising the fans. We're a rudderless ship that lacks leadership from the top or from the Boardroom. A club that's heading for the rocks with so called leadership that have only ever had only one plan to save it, flog it off to somebody else. Anybody remember the days when we had a successful Goldbond at the club, how much cash did that generate every month towards the playing budget? Cash streams that are completely ignored while the club becomes more and more desperate. We have over 2000 home fans and if each one donated just £5/ month to the player fund we could afford to fund several loan players, my fear is that two thirds of the fans are not members of the Trust and Saturdays meeting in the Dale Bar will fall on deaf ears because they simply wont have been made aware of the plans. The whole fan base needs to be involved in this because if its left to just a minority it won't work, it wouldn't be fair on those making the contributions neither. I would have liked season ticket sales to be brought forward to March with a price increase included but also a small discount for early bird purchases, the option of donating the discount at point of payment could be included in the offer. The club has imploded over the last twelve months, it's now at it lowest ebb ever, we need new leadership desperately. We've gone from giving a manager a really healthy playing budget only eighteen months ago to now not having a pot to p*ss in and the buck stops with those in the Boardroom. The club has been neglected and the sole focus has been on kicking the can down the road in order to recoup the Chairman and Directors outlay. I don't trust them to find us suitable investors neither having seen the credentials of some of the individuals mentioned recently. [Post edited 2 Jan 7:46]

I'm with you TS. The frustration of the fans is palpable. We just seem to be watching the club die a slow death. As others have been continually asking over the last two and a half years.... 'whats the plan?'

The Directors bought back the MH shares and the Chairman has also helped to fund the club on top of that, all very commendable but the club has gone down the plug hole under their stewardship big time. We are now plumbing new depths that we have never seen before and that's a reflection on how those in the boardroom have performed. They've overseen constant regression while clubs with far less finance or infrastructure at a similar level to us are being run in a far more efficient manner.
Fylde Teamsheet on 09:38 - Jan 2 with 4658 views | NorthernDale | May I ask, can we or more crucially is it worth recalling Campbell from Wealdstone to cover the injuries? I agree, with another poster, we three or four people short from having a promotion challenging team, even with all of our problems, we are only two points outside the playoffs. So if we can get a couple in, it will benefit the team, hopefully McNulty will give them a couple days off this week. Thankfully Jez is okay, hopefully we will get an update on his injuries.
Fylde Teamsheet on 10:41 - Jan 2 with 4472 views | Newbury_Dale | My opinion of Jim has totally changed this season, I think he's doing a great job in very difficult circumstances, but he's not the first manager to be in a position like this and wont be the last. The performance yesterday was absolutely dreadful, and naming three subs might send a message to the board but it must surely have given AFC Fylde a boost too. It seemed utterly bizarre to me that Lennon MacLorg was warming Louie Moulden up before the match but then wasn't named as a fourth sub. OK, massively unlikely to be used, but he was at the ground. Why would you not include him ? It also doesn't really give a strong message to the second year apprentices not asked to be the fourth or fifth subs. McNulty basically saying he would rather have nobody on the bench today than use the likes of Brooklyn Bailey, John Dunlop etc. Can these lads be that inferior to the likes of Uchegbulam [terrible injury but very poor again before that and not offering the team anything at all as far as I can see] and Ufuye ? I cant see it. [Post edited 2 Jan 10:54]

Exactly my thoughts Newbury, if I may , in addition from the glimpses I saw of Conway during his brief loan spell at Dale, he looked to me as the real deal at this level (proven over our two games against Fylde ) Big Jim preferred Ufuye (nowhere near good enough, even at this level) Conway didn't get the required pitch minutes therefore, he was recalled by Bolton, rightly so ! Conway went stright back out on loan to Fylde where he's been putting in man of the match performances since, I'm absolutely baffled !

That's not true, because Conway played 137 minutes in a Dale shirt. During the same period, Afuye played zero minutes. Indeed, Conway joined Dale on 24th August. The next game after that, versus Bromley, saw Afuye come on as an injury time sub, while Conway remained on the bench. Over the next month, Conway made his seven appearances while Afuye made zero appearances! Yes, he has apparently done well at Fylde, but his lack of game time at Dale had nothing whatsoever to do with Afuye. [Post edited 2 Jan 14:22]

I remember watching Conway at Kidderminster away where he started at left wing and the instruction seemed to be for him to use his pace and run in behind the defence. EEL amongst others, gestured for him to do this but I think he did it once (start of the second half) all game. Was unsurprising that he only featured sparsely after that.

We should be looking to reinstate the goldbond ASAP, I know we were tied into this current lotto system but can't remember when it was due to end (if it hasn't already). If it hasn't ended then use this time to prepare, get in touch with the former goldbond agents, apologise to them for what went on with the previous regime and ask if they would be prepared to take up their old rounds, free season ticket included, recruit new agents where necessary. The club (board) need to get ahead of the curve, not constant half-hearted reactionary measures whilst trying to sell on the problem to some fantasy investor. It was the same with the £1 ticket promotion, great idea but no new merchandise in the club shop until when pointed out on this forum, a last minute half arsed attempt at a retro scarf. I thought to myself at the time bigger crowd surely we have thought this through and got enough food in at the kiosks, we always run out of food when we have a bigger crowd why don't we ever f****** learn. I know f*** all about marketing but even I could see that one coming a mile away. It's so frustrating, how can we ever move forward when we insist on shooting ourselves in both feet.

I was told by a director that we WERE tied in but we were going to give notice to terminate the agreement in November 2022. If that is the case what about the Dale trust organising something simliar to the goldbond and use the money to purchase shares on a montly basis.... A dedicated person or two on the Trust board to organise the gold bond or whatever it would named... While we are on about raising finances I do think that the season card prices need a good looking into as the club are struggling financially this should be seriously looked at.... There is no doubt they are good value for money but a price increase needs to be seriously thought for next season... The sandy lane ticket of £175 ÷ 22 games is almost £8 a game based upon that the season cards may be good value but it is costing the club dearly... The club should be looking at £11 x22 matches or even £12 x22 matches... Survival is the key for Dale next season and so on as i for one do not believe that a knight in shining armour will come over the Hill to Dales rescue.. [Post edited 3 Jan 12:22]

https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/11/goldbond-lotto-questions-submitted-to-the-cl According to this 20% of every new member goes to Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal and 80% to RAFC. At November 2019, there were 1,208 'new' members. Less than 50 switched from Goldbond to the new scheme. If I were the current lotteries organiser I'd make it as difficult as possible for the club to move. The best thing that could happen IMHO is the installation of the Dale Trust Goldbond and the other would die on the vine. The Dale Trust can then choose where monies go but I've no doubt it would be profitable.

So we’d have to question why so much time been wasted without something like this being established. See the previous link around what the Trust reported about the lottery in April ‘22. Have any issues with the lottery been communicated to the supporters and the Trust since then? (There may well have been, so would be interested to see a link to information) The subject also came up during the fans meetings with the Trust eight months ago. Again, no visible progress or reasons why this hasn’t been achievable.

I wrote to the Trust some time ago suggesting exactly this, I even found a software and app programme to operate it with, as currently being used by St Johnstone. My point is about the Dale Trust setting up their own alternative. That alternative could have been / can be done by the Trust at any point. I can see why the Trust have never contemplated previously doing so, it might be an option now particularly given there's a Squadbuilder meeting on Saturday. As others have pointed out it appears the club is under a legal contract signed by previous individuals for Dale Lotto, not yet terminated. In the October 2023's newsletter update the Trust were openly advocating joining Dale Lotto: https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2023/10/trust-newsletter-october/ You have to be in it to win it, so if you’re not already playing, why not give yourself a chance to participate in the weekly and promotional prize draws, whilst contributing to the funding of the Academy at the same time.

To be honest, I think there is going to have to be some deep thought about the viability of the academy in its current form unless someone with deep pockets wants to get involved with the club. I suspect there may be other models that might work with significantly less funding but the perils of developing young talent for some other club to hoover up with only derisory payments to the club that took them to the brink of signing Pro contracts makes the activity much less appealing. Perhaps a well publicised set of trials for young players ( like the Joe Bunney trials) would be a better way forward. Or maybe partnering with some of the 800+ US universities and colleges offering " soccer" scholarships. If Rochdale Lacrosse Club can bring over an American player evey year to play and coach in schools why cannot RAFC do something similar?

Fylde Teamsheet on 19:06 - Jan 2 with 2831 views | Rodingdale | The frustrating reality is that the board have no appetite to invest any money at risk, at all. There are lots of examples of that. The problem is this policy will eventually kill the club, on and off the pitch. As we are now seeing. It was ok for a short time, but the failure to sell up means the austerity is now really biting. There is something positive in this though. There are loads of areas of the club which are underperforming and with a proper management structure put in place by new ownership, there is value capable of being unlocked. Basically it’s becoming a good time to buy RAFC. But and it’s a big but, the price is still dropping and anyone interested in buying knows that. The board have talked the club down now for at least a year, so it’s hardly a secret we’re skint. If I were an interested buyer I’d just wait, unfortunately for the board, time is their enemy and as we saw in late Nov things are becoming very fraught. The risks are clear though, how far will we fall if we do hit admin? and the problem with the buy underperforming assets model, is that those investors want to sell when they’ve got it properly run. There’s also the not insignificant problem that the ground is worth more than the club. So we could get a good owner followed by a less good one who just wants to asset strip. I’ve never accepted the move away from fan owned - but it seems there’s no organised push for this in the fan base, the Trust have in my opinion gone native and the squad builder idea is too little too late. RAFC should be seen as a community enterprise not a tradable asset. But we are in the hands of the board, and they just want their cash back. The Trust does have a good number of members, but I don’t think the Trust Board are interested in or capable of engaging with the full membership to any particular end. Even as a lobbying group, the match day experience hasn’t changed much for the better despite their considerable efforts - the boards door is closed to ideas and ways to do things better. We get to watch events unfold, but are helpless to influence them. Enjoy the ride indeed. The 1,000 Dale fans at Fylde, the Manager and Playing staff really do deserve better.

Presumably the club will have been looking at all these options on a regular basis and actively engaging with the Trust about schemes such as this and others. Otherwise they won’t have really maximised the work of supporters over the last year and their own commitment at the end of last season around reengaging with the fanbase. The failings are obvious, the lack of real positive change is disappointing and has led to where we are. But we all know that. The efforts of many have been wasted and so has time itself, the commitment admirably still remains and it’ll be witnessed again on Saturday no doubt.

Fylde Teamsheet on 19:06 - Jan 2 by 442Dale | Presumably the club will have been looking at all these options on a regular basis and actively engaging with the Trust about schemes such as this and others. |
"They won't have really maximised the work of supporters"... that's the reoccurring theme of the last few years. "Reengaging with the fan base"....bit late when the ships already ploughed into the iceberg.

Indeed. And there’s no pleasure taken in being repetitive. It’s when the ideas/importance of fans stepping up/the Trust acting are given sudden importance by various posts from many on here. Not to say it’s wrong, because it’s vital we do whatever we can. But it isn’t new, it’s gone on for a long long time and that we are still unsure of what a structured plan looks like is damning. It’s a collective failing and no attempt to distract from that is acceptable, nor is an attempt to create various narratives over the years. We’ve all fallen short. The route forward, as it ever was, is to accept that first and foremost and establish a clear, well structured basic plan to utilise the skills of the supporters of Rochdale Football Club. If that isn’t achieved, the ice will continue to fall around our ears.
