Rain forecast for early afternoon tomorrow but a clear day saturday.
Looks like we are toast.
Couldn't really have been a worse start to the series. 196 runs behind at the end of day 2 and they still have 3 wickets and a guy set with a century still there. Burns looking set to be a candidate for their MOM with that drop & his 10 second batting cameo
Let's hope for a freak climate change event or miracle for the next 3 days

Time for bed. Will Stokes be able to bowl again this match?
Dread to think what the score will be when i wake up
Edit: so 7 down is a lot better than i expected. Good effort by our bowlers, but we're obviously up against it

I see they've now looked back at the Stokes over where he bowled Warner for 17 with a no ball and all of his previous balls were no balls too! It beggars belief that he wasn't told be the 3rd umpire so he could amend his run up!

Good call
It was also annoying to see Stokes diving and tumbling like a circus acrobat to try to save the inevitable boundary, putting himself at risk of injury after such a long lay-off. He eventually tweaked a leg chasing a lost cause. Why the hell wasn't he in the slips, as usual*
* Instead of Burns. He needs to do some running about to start earning his contract

Obviously a genuine mistake, the Australians would never cheat to gain an advantage, would they?

According to that link I posted 14 out of his 30 balls were no balls! So basically the Aussies were getting free hits with no risk of losing a wicket in nearly 50% of his deliveries.

As last Summer, players not properly prepared for TEST MATCH cricket. They can play all the "Hundred" malarkey but that is absolutely nowhere near what is required in a Test Match. The utter ignorance of conditions at the Gabba was beyond naïve.
It makes Root's captaincy look poor, and Chris Silverwood's "management" look untenable.
As it stands, a 270+ lead for them and a convict with less than 20 tests under his belt can score more on his own than our entire team. We are better than this but woefully mismanaged.

Just 6 years ago...
Most of the Australian team played less FC cricket than England team. Exceptions are the centurion who has been tearing up Sheffield Shield bowlers from all accounts and the late call up at wk. Not sure Warner, Smith, Cummins and the like have played any FC cricket since the India series in January.
Its the lack of preparation in Australian conditions which in turn arises from the expansion of 2020 tournaments etc meaning tours are now just test matches with no warm up games to get match practice in local conditions.
Home teams have far greater advantage in test series than they have ever had....not sure if that is reflected in the results of test series being more home dominated than previous eras.

Long way to go yet, but all results are now back in the mix
That's all we ask for, well done lads
shows that 1 good partnership at a decent run rate can change the game. Complete lack of application for 1 and a bit innings until Malan & Root came in. We are going to need a lot of partnerships like this in the next month but at least these 2 showed it can be done. We also need to see a few decent innings/partnerships that don't just involve Root. We know he can do it ( just set the record for most Runs by an English batsman in a calendar year) and it's now time for a few more to step up
Great day for England, as there was a chance we could have been close to a loss by the end of today at 2 down. We probably need these 2 to get us into a lead and then anything can happen. Said many times before but the first session tomorrow is crucial

I didn’t want the session to end. You just felt Root and Malan could’ve batted on for a whole week. Just have to pray the break doesn’t disrupt their rhythm and they pick up tonight where they left off.
Wonderful battling from Root and Malan. Just shows you how bad we were 1st innings that we've had such a good day but are still 58 behind! Can still only see an Aussie victory as I fear this partnership ending will lead to a few wickets falling quickly - it would be a miracle if we salvaged a draw.

It won't be an innings defeat. Edit: We are effectively 4 for 7 in our second innings. At least the Barmy Army trumpeter is lifting the mood with "Sweet Caroline". Finger is still pointing at Silverwood's poor (mis)management.

Oops. Lost 6 wickets today, 8 runs in front, 8 wickets down as it stands. Convicts have an innings to go. Those DVD box sets of us beating the convicts within this century are nice viewing but we need better now.

followed by awful batting ‘today’.Embarrasing from team preparation, team selection to team performance.
A friend at the game sent me a photo of the warm up today…Australia practicing fielding, catching, wk ing, batting and bowling. England playing football. Sums it up really.

Given our overall performance, i can understand why the Aussies were wk ing

I thought they''d banned the football warm-up after Burns' injury?
Tangled up in blue.

This has been spirit-crushing. Chances spurned and now Warner & Labuschagne look like they could stay there forever while the bowling attack looks to be completely lacking in variety. Could be another long few days.
