Time for a return to a UK wide NHS 13:39 - Mar 31 with 17351 viewsBarrySwan

If ever those incompetent fools in the laughably titled Welsh Assembly Government have been exposed for the waste of spaces that they are then it is now.

I travelled up to the Heath hospital yesterday to get some urgent medication for a kidney patient in Penarth whose dialysis has been delayed, The medication was only available from the pharmacy there and had been picked up by the staff at the kidney treatment department who had no way of getting the medication to the person in need, the person in need contacted me after mentioning that they had no idea who to turn to or who to ring for help.

Upon speaking to the staff up the Heath when collecting the items I mentioned that surely what was needed was a couple of people in an office who held the contact details of all the volunteer organisations and individuals who were ready to help and had come forward in order that Doctors nurses and those in need could ring up explain the delivery requirement and that central office could contact the nearest local group or individual eager to help in order that medicines, emergency food supplies etc etc can be distributed and delivered.

They told me that they had been asking for such a facility for days now but had been ignored and also had not received any communication whatsoever in regards catering for such scenarios.

just look at the difference in the volunteering websites provided by the English NHS and the joke site highlighted by the Welsh government after being pressed as to why they had not followed the
English model

https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS

Welsh joke site

https://volunteering-wales.net/vk/volunteers/registration.htm

This is just their general volunteering for beach cleaning, hedge cutting along country paths site with an uninformative pathetic unclear Covid-19 bit tacked on which basically tells you nothing and has provided nothing in the way of assistance to our medical professionals and their patients as my experience yesterday proves.

If ever there was a case for a return to a real UK national Health service and the scrapping of the shambolic money generating piggy bank for the Welsh AMs their families and political cronies that is the Welsh assembly then this is it.

I think the OP needs to watch this video.

Westminster is controlling us not the Senedd. Gethin is a useless knob agreed but do not put the blame on them for this, the blame lies with London - they cancelled the contract.

There was a live broadcast by Drakeford partially covered on BBC news24 on Monday.
I say partially covered, because they deserted him after 5 or 6 minutes, and switched to the overtly ruthless and selfish Scottish First Minister Sturgeon. As much as I despise the woman, her presentation was so professional and light years ahead of Drakefords which was so ponderous. More and more power is going to the assembly, and the standard of the politicians is nosediving, it's frightening.
When this pandemic is finally gone, we need to put a similar effort into getting a referendum to get rid of this assembly, which has just not delivered anything like it should have for the people all over Wales.

Reform is needed not 'get rid of the Senedd', because if you think this is bad, wait until we are under London's control and forgotten. This latest fiasco is proof of that. Why are you not angry?

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

Ok I've done as requested.

Now perhaps you can explain what this has got to do with what I would think is the fairly simple task of setting up a control centre ( with controllers working from home) where as I suggested Doctors, Nurses, social services etc etc can ring up and explain their requirements and call for help.

And those central controllers armed with a list of local individual volunteers and volunteer organisations can contact then allocate deliveries of medicines and urgent supplies to these volunteers and then confirm back to the hospital department or other agency requesting help when the task is completed.

Even in these flying by the seat of their pants days surely this has to be one of the easiest and most essential things to set up?

The incompetent clowns in Cardiff Bay aren't even capable of setting up a call centre to do this you're saying?

And its all Westminsters fault apparently?

Which of course doesn't really explain why your favourites down the Bay have managed to consistently place the Welsh NHS at the bottom of the UK pile since the creation of the Bay of Pigs in the trough.

No doubt you'll have an explanation as to why that isn't their fault either.

My opinion of the overwhelming majority of the political class is basically.... to quote the great Welsh philosopher.... Boyd Clack...Lower than a Corgis' arse. Never demonstrated more than the demonstration of the appalling calibre of MPs highlighted during the Brexit fiasco.

However given that the AMs are generally acknowledged as those not fit to make the Westminster election candidate lists of the major political parties why duplicate tier after tier of hopeless incompetents?

Aye, and to think some people want to give that lot in Cardiff Bay full power and complete independence to force-multiply their buffoonery and sabotage.

The relief road farce said it all for me i.e. ₤114 million spent on the planning/consultation process only for it to be cancelled and kicked into the long grass with a 'ongoing review'. I wonder how much this 'ongoing review' will cost to produce yet more hot air and zero end product?

Even the opposition seemed nonchalant/ Laissez-Faire about it all! They could not give two sh1ts just as long as their parallel universe, Cardiff bubble, 'third-sector' patronage and jobs-for-the-boys stuff doesn't take a hit.

Like I've said many times before the WAG is packed with a bunch of incompetent and backward village idiot yokels who'll ruin any possibility of a modern, dynamic, reactive, economically progressive Wales.

Well said couldnt agree more.

Can someone please enlighten me that in this day and age why we haven't got all of our medical history details on a credit card.
Why haven't we got specialist units for scans etc. Put them on our industrial estates where you can drive up and walk in hand your card over get scanned and go back to your specialist/Doctor.

Open up a cottage hospitals doing Tonsillectomy and minor 2/3 day stay ops etc. We seem to have loads of managers making no difference.

Interestingly many years ago in Hong Kong that was the situation, you held/carried your own medical record.

A UK NHS always seemed a better idea for me. An integrated purchasing sustem which ight reduce spend on equipment and meds. An integrated admin/computer system with no BS arguments around party or national lines such as the position adopted by Drakeford over extra money for the M4 relief.

The line has ever been Westminster is to blame yet the more power the Senedd gets the worse Wales has become.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Trump said only 15 Americans have it soon to be zero

A few weeks later he says it could be millions

A few weeks later he says millions could die

Somehow I doubt Boris will take his advice

They've all been running around quoting Piers Morgan for the last couple of weeks. It's the logical next step.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I have spent 48 years of my life ruled by 'London' as you put it, and the last 21 years ruled by Cardiff. The only improvement of any note I've seen in the last 20 years is on the infrastructure in and around Cardiff. I would be much happier with things as they were with a few quality MP's fighting our corner in Westminster. I would be happy to be treated as just another region of the UK

The Welsh NHS is superb? The staff are superb but the infrastructure and resources are in a right mess. They are short of everything and were before Covid 19 struck.

A superb health service does not see peope waiting 2 years for a hip replacement, it doesn't have ambulances queueing up outside A&E for hours or patients lying on trolleys in corridors without a sheet to cover them so that everybody can see their naked behind hanging out as happened to my mother the week before she died.

Do you really believe what you post?

If Westminster blocked the Welsh NHS order, or if the supplier changed their mind due to competing interests of NHS England, that's absolutely disgusting. We're better off away from the sorts of people who would do such a thing.

The Senedd is a bit sh*t at times, but at least it's our sh*t.

Drakeford and his muppets are puppets of Westminster. What London says they follow.

I firmly believe in the concept of devolved government. That said, having effective governance depends on the quality of the people doing the governing and this in my opinion is where it’s falling short. We need competent and capable individuals in charge and I don’t think some of those people we have heading things up ain’t cutting it.

There is no doubt funding is an issue. The WAG’s budget has been cut (in real terms) for a number of years and this has had a huge effect on the NHS which receives a huge proportion of the budget. We are years behind, some parts of the NHS still use paper records FFS.

In terms of the coordination of volunteers that is very poor and it should be much more professional, not defending the WAG but the Health Board have some responsibility for this too. We are in effect a 1party state, we need an effective opposition which holds people to account, we may have some decent politicians in opposition but they don’t have anywhere near the numbers needed.

Watched the Sky extract, shocking how our own Health Service is competing against itself, .....ing mental.
Someone should be phoning the Universities and commercial labs and getting this stuff sorted, the additional expenditure incurred by an effective testing regime would save thousands pounds elsewhere.
