Potter offered a new contact on 16:42 - May 17 by 3swan | As contract negotiations are normally confidential, which side has released the news to the media? And why? |
It could be either. The club to show publicly 'hey, we're doing all we can' or to force Brighton's hand because they really want the compo (take your pick) or a bit of both. Or his agent to stir Brighton into action and maybe bring in other bidders. It's the modern way, led by parliament. Leak, and don't straight talk, whatever you do.

Potter offered a new contact on 17:16 - May 17 with 2451 views | Rokerite | I couldn't understand why the board pulled the rug from under Potter's feet last Summer. They'd brought in an ace, if they'd backed him to anything like the degree Stoke backed Rowett and WBA Moore I'm convinced Swansea would have been celebrating bouncing straight back to The Premier League. Fans on other message-boards applaud Swansea's owners for their financial acumen in not putting the club's future at risk. What they fail to appreciate is Graham Potter is a special talent and waiting a year before the fire-sale would have been a risk worth taking. Let's hope for your sake the owners have realised how close they've come to losing Swansea's last best hope of a swift return to the top-flight, then give him a new contract and assurances which they fulfil.

And if Swansea had fallen short we'd be in serious do-dah. The way we've gone about things is much more akin to Norwich's approach - which is a good thing. The big difference is the absence of a Stuart Webber-like figure, to give the complete package and joined up thinking needed to make a club like Swansea punch above its weight.

Am trying to get a positive on all this, and perhaps Brighton have done us a favour. Looks like they've pushed our lot into giving Potts assurances. Hope that doesn't sound too desperate?

The use of the word posturing does not impress me one bit. I stand by the word spin.......obviously those mere mortals that dont know about income/expenditure would not see spin if it slapped them in the face, no chance of seeing naive spin either. Interesting times ahead and I hope Potter stays, he calls out the yanks because he will succeed if backed. I have every faith in Potter and it looks like he is in the right spot to put the yanks over a barrel at present.

Yeah I'm sure we would have gone up if we'd bought experienced players to replace League Two at best no-hopers like James, Grimes, Rodon etc. A few more Asoros and Woods and we'd have walked it. You'd think Stoke and West Brom got promoted the way people talk.

Potter worked wonders with those "no hopers", imagine what he could have done with an experienced player or 2 in the team. Open your mind and back Potter, what he can do with the young squad we have.......maybe a sprinkling of experience that was so obviously needed as certain matches highlighted.

Potter could have played his strongest team consistently before January, and told Nordfelt to clean his coalshed for nine months. That might have helped. We should be in the playoffs now with no need to spend stupidly, and I think we'd be the best bet there with our cup mentality. That's the long and the short of it. By luck or by judgement (luck with DJ and Leeds for sure), the Yanks strategy should have worked. Potter is the man that nearly miraculously made it work but ultimately didn't. So he takes praise and brickbats for my money. His overachievment underachieved its potential. Hopefully he's here next season and we seal the deal.

Potter did a good job. Not an amazing one, but good. His work in improving many players who had previously underachieved was perhaps the most pleasing aspect, even if certain tactical and personnel choices were less so. If we'd gambled a bit on the playing side we might have gone straight back up. If we'd failed we'd be in even more shit than we are now. Personally I'd prefer not to gamble when the stakes are that high.

Potter offered a new contact on 20:22 - May 17 with 1579 views | jasper_T | People would be crying out for more experience even if Fer, Olsson and Carroll had been fit all season and playing every week. The sight of an u23s player without a multi-million pound price tag is just upsetting to some types of fans. It's the end of the world if you don't have two experienced options they've seen on TV for every position. Never mind that these kids were always serious talents desperate and overdue their breaks into senior football, and all used to playing attractive passing football with each other. No, Potter must have rounded them up at local parks and if only we'd signed real footballers instead! [Post edited 17 May 2019 20:22]
