Not necessarily at this stage. However, his lawyer appears to be in deep, deep shit, with the Washington Post reporting the immediate cause of the raid is a pending investigation into Campaign Finance violations and the criminal charge of bank fraud over the porn star cover up. ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/fbi-seizes-records-related-to-stormy-dan ) Furthermore the extreme nature of this raid apparently indicates that prosecutors likely have reasonable cause to suspect Cohen would destroy documents if confronted with a less intrusive investigative process. So not directly related to Russian collusion in the first instance, but more than enough to send him to prison, disbar him as a lawyer, and destroy his career. The twist is that he has been Trump's bag man for many, many years and without doubt knows where all sorts of skeletons are buried. If faced with having his life ruined, will he sing like a bird? Judging by reports of Trump's insane reaction yesterday, that seems a distinct possibility.

Breaking News: FBI Raid Trump's Lawyer on 08:18 - Apr 10 with 10772 views | Shaky | BTW the narrative still being put out by Team Trump is that this is all part of a political witch-hunt. The fact is that this particular line of investigation is not being pursued by Robert Mueller (a lifelong registered Republican), but instead by the US Attorney for Manhattan (a public prosecutor). He is also a registered Republican voter, was a major donor to Trump's election campaign, and was in fact appointed by the Trump administration at the start of the month!

His base don't remotely care about him having an affair with a prostitute - not even slightly (their religion is always nothing if not fluid and opportunistic, largely reserved for abortion and gay bashing). So why make so much effort to stop her speaking?

1) If the lawyer hasnt already shredded any documents and electronic files and communications relating to this matter, it'd be very surprised. 2) Interesting that you include a link from the Washington Post. The Post is owned by Jeff Bezos, the Amazon owner. Trump is barefacedly starting to go after Amazon because of the Bezos connection. Quite incredible really.

Quite, its all out in the open and there's little point disputing the facts of it. I think the only one who's bothered is Melania, who has been totally absent from the scene recently. I guess she knows what shes been dealing with for years and could have got out before now. Not nice for her, mind. I wonder what the daughter thinks, although she too must have known what a piece of work he is. On one hand I feel a hint of sympathy for them. On the other, theyve allowed this monster of a man to get away with it for years.

Trump famously said in the election campaign he could shoot somebody dead on Fifth Avenue and his supporters wouldn't bat an eyelid. That's just typical Trump shtick though. Nobody would have really dared to hope his self-styled religious base - who have spent years screaming about how Obama's choice of a beige suit meant his character was unfit for the office of presidency - would stand by him in the face of multiple affairs conducted with porn stars and adult models while Melania was still in the maternity ward. So they covered it up. And so as was the case with Watergate, the cover up rather than the offense is what really gets them into trouble. At least at this stage.

I understand why they covered it up before the election, but it's the continued efforts I find odd. They are still attempting to shut her up. And actually, I misdescribed her as a prositute - I meant porn star. Apologies to her. Not that she's reading planetswans I imagine...

I can't imagine he and Melania have what anyone 'normal' would describe as a marriage to be honest. Ivanka is an odd one - you'd think a daughter would find it repellent - perhaps she does, but they seem close. Probably doesn't care much what he does to upset Melania though - I can't imagine there's much love lost between them.

I agree completely on your first point. And as I alluded to earlier it is quite possible that Mueller's team have direct evidence of such destruction of documents, and according to my US lawyer mate likely a key reason they were granted such intrusive and drastic powers of investigation. Remember Cohen was a named person in the Christopher Steele pissgate dossier who reportedly went to meet Team Putin in Central Europe. And is quite clearly Trump's bagman. Without doubt he was a person of interest in the counterintelligence investigation (ie is Trump a Russian spy), and there may even be video or something of document destruction. Mueller certainly had something that allowed them to go to Rod Rosenstein (the #2 at the Justice department directly overseeing the investigation) who then sent this matter on to US Attorney in NY. This is getting very, very serious. [Post edited 10 Apr 2018 12:53]

Once you take the decision to cover something like this up, that then sets in motion a whole new sequence of unintended consequences. The crimes under investigation almost certainly relate to the original cover up though. And are relatively trivial in the great scheme of things. But more than enough to destroy Cohen's life as i already mentioned. The question though is will he strike a plea deal with Mueller to go easy on him in return for spilling the beans, like Flynn and Papadopolus did? Apparently there are some procedural obstacles to this due to the issue of jurisdiction according to my mate, but other than that it is anyone's guess.

And that was before an ex-employee led an FBI agent to a storage locker filled with Manafort’s financial papers. BY Betsy Woodruff Daily Beast, 04.09.18 Former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort has trouble in his own house. According to court documents, one of Manafort’s former employees led an FBI agent to a storage locker filled with paperwork on Manafort’s businesses and finances. The person’s name is redacted from the filings. But he’s now at the center of a fight over evidence that could play a significant role in the government’s case against Manafort. Is there any difference between prostitute and porn star in real terms? I think your initial description was appropriate.

Breaking News: FBI Raid Trump's Lawyer on 13:22 - Apr 10 with 10548 views | acejack3065 | Nice to see Robert Mueller teaching the liar in chief that you can't act and lie about everything and not face the consequences. If Trump used the same lawyer to pay off a porn star illegally, and to meet Russians in secret, it's no surprise the special council is going about its business like this. More fool him.

Breaking News: FBI Raid Trump's Lawyer on 13:43 - Apr 10 with 10525 views | Shaky | Inside the West Wing with Trump enraged By Mike Allen Axios, 10 April 2018 Sources close to the president say that a political dispute with special counsel Robert Mueller has turned visceral and personal after the feds' raid on the New York offices of Michael Cohen, Trump's personal lawyer and fixer. What we're hearing: One of the sources said: "Mueller's investigation has been drip, drip. This was a giant leap forward ... a personal hit. ... They were moving in inches. Today, they moved a mile." * Until now, when storms hit, Trump could turn to Hope Hicks to explain things to him, suggest wording, simmer him down. With her departure from the White House, we saw the president working out his fury in real time. * The source continued: "This is the first crisis post-Hope Hicks. ... This was different: I've never seen him like this before. ... This is the president you're going to see more of from here on out: unvarnished, untethered." * Another source close to Trump said: "He takes the Russia stuff as a political hit job. This was a personal affront. This was the red line" of intrusion into personal financial matters. The president – arms crossed defiantly – held a stunning on-camera venting session during an appearance with his senior military leadership where a potential strike on Syria took second billing to Michael Cohen ("With all of that being said, we are here to discuss Syria tonight"). * The WashPost cites three sources as saying Cohen "is under federal investigation for possible bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations." * A statement from Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said: "The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients." During the 10-minute rant, Trump ... * ... used "disgrace" seven times and "disgraceful" twice. * ... fumed about an action by agents of the government he heads: "I just heard that they broke into the office of one of my personal attorneys – a good man. ... It's a total witch hunt." * ...accused those agents of his government of "an attack on our country, in a true sense. It's an attack on what we all stand for." * ... said, repeating back a question: "Why don't I just fire Mueller? ... Well, I think it's a disgrace what's going on. We'll see what happens. But I think it's really a sad situation when you look at what happened. And many people have said, 'You should fire him." * ... referred to the investigation as "the most conflicted group of people I've ever seen. The Attorney General made a terrible mistake ... when he recused himself. ... [W]e would have ... put a different Attorney General in." * ... quadrupled down on firing FBI Director James Comey: "One of the things they said: 'I fired Comey.' Well, I turned out to do the right thing, because if you look at all of the things that he's done and the lies, and you look at what's gone on at the FBI with the insurance policy and all of the things that happened – turned out I did the right thing." Be smart: Close aides are recommending against firing Mueller. But that means little these days. The big, surreal picture: Take a minute to think about the history unfolding before our eyes. You have the president’s top lawyer getting raided by the FBI, prompting the president to warn of an epic attack on government and signaling he might try to can the special counsel investigating him. * This is on the eve of the arguably most powerful and well known CEO of our generation getting grilled by Congress, in part because the Russians used his platform to try to elect the man at the center of it all. * History books will be written about this – and you were there to see it all unfold. https://www.axios.com/trump-reaction-cohen-mueller-raid-4de566f7-2b18-4419-a689-
