Kingsley to Hull? 16:48 - Aug 21 with 16297 viewsAussieSwan

Being reported that he is on his way as part of the Clucas deal. Some sources are saying it's also permanent

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/08/21/hull-to-land-stephen-kingsley-as-part-of-sa

I've no idea if it's in addition to the rumoured 12m outlay for Clucas or if it means the fee is reduced, but it's an interesting add-on. I don't know why we're always in a need to sell so many goddamn players, especially after the Siggy money coming in.

If this is a loan - good move. Gives the lad some playing time.

If this is a permanent transfer - I'm very uncertain on it. Would mean we only have Rangel, Naughton and Olsson as our only recognised full backs. Even with someone like Yiadom or Arias coming in that would still leave us short if we got a couple of injuries, and with Rangel due to move on soon you'd think.

Maybe it signals more of a move to the 3-5-2?

I'd hate to lose SK, but maybe this would indicate we like our chances with Arias and plan to have Naughton as the primary backup on both sides.

So we are trading a Scottish international and £15M+ for Clucas

Good grief !

I'm getting the same impression, but the smart thing to do would be to lock Arias in before sanctioning any Kingsley sale, just in case it falls through.

I'd hate to sell Kingsley and then not get another LB/RB in before the window shuts. We saw last season our lack of depth caught us out, when Rangel and Naughton both got injured and we had to end up playing Leroy Fer at RB...

It's really strange for us to be offloading promising players like Kingsley, when we've been throwing around long-term contracts to a number of players who have done nothing to warrant it. I for one will be disappointed at this.

Kingsley has to be valued at £4M is the current climate
-1
Kingsley to Hull? on 16:57 - Aug 21 with 10931 viewsAussieSwan

What would Kingsley be worth anyway? £2-3m? And is this a makeweight in the Clucas deal or on top of the £12-15m?

Because if it got the Clucas deal down to say £9-10m (plus Kingsley) then that might make more sense. But if it's £16.5m plus Kingsley then that is pure lunacy

We traded a Welsh and Dutch international plus a 10% sell on clause for a Spurs reserve...

Clucas is a no nonsense grafter according to a mate who supports Hull.
Don't think you could describe Tabanou as that type of player.

Stupidity. He's a good prospect and excellent back up for Olssen.

Why do you we have to sell him?

No. he was more of a no grafting nonsense.

I'm not sure what value to put on Kingsley, but principle of offloading young international with a lot of promise feels wrong. Also, even if we bring in Arias we'd only be one injury away in defence from having no RB / LB on the bench - Rangel sadly miles too slow now. Over a season we need a plan for injuries that's not as desparate as Fer at RB last season.

We have so very few promising youngsters.
SK is a capable deputy left back, but a good move for him.

I like SK but he's 23, hardly a raw kid anymore and he isn't going to play ahead of Olsson or Naughton as back up LB.
If and it's a big if it saves us £4 million to go towards signing Arias, it's a good deal all round.
Clucas is being criticised for being a UK based player as opposed to a foreign signing cos we love a foreign signing.
Clucas is a good addition to the team.

This. I will take the unusual position of really liking Clucas. He is a good player, is consistent moves the ball well and will battle.

Clucks can also play LB apparently. However, we have Carroll as a left sided midfield player. It might possibly indicate a move towards cover as a wing back as well as midfield and this would make sense if Clement wants to use the 3-5-2 formation more. It was clearly a success for 75 mins on Saturday but this still requires a big investment in creative, Centre-midfield players. I'm confused really.

"Yossarian- the very sight of the name made him shudder. There were so many esses in it. It just had to be subversive" (Catch 22)
