Footballs finished - gig plans for the summer? 08:59 - May 12 with 12996 viewswestberksr

apart from the small matter of the Euros the summer is usually the time to get soaked through at festivals and fill in the boredom with a few gigs....

what have you all got lined up?

me...

Maverick Sabre - this weekend in Reading
Rudimental & Disclosures festival in Brighton - 11/12 June
Chic & Angie Stone - Fulham Palace 26th June
Love Supreme festival - 1-3rd July (Jazz FMs thing)
North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam - "nice" 8-10 July (great line up apart from Simply Red)
then have Blade Runner & Some Like It Hot at outdoor cinemas

further forward Gary Numan in September

toying with ABC - Lexicon of Love (in full with orchestra) October. Can't believe that was 34 years ago.

mixed in with a bit of Royal Ascot, Goodwood and maybe a Vintage grand Prix in Belgium

Off to the Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival, Ballyshannon, Co.Donegal on June bank holiday weekend. Wilko Johnson and The Blockheads are playing there this year.

Pencilled in Richard Hawley in Dublin in July. Would love to see him live.

Other than that, not much floats my boat music wise this summer in Ireland. Might take in a couple of jazz festivals or such like.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

My wife is playing keys with the reformed Airrace supporting The Treatment at the O2 Academy in Islington tomorrow night........and I'm NOT going to see AC/DC at the Olympic Park this summer. Other than that I'll be out there in Germany singing for my supper!

Me and Mrs C are off to the Stevie Wonder gig in Hyde Park on July 10th where he's doing the "Songs In The Key Of Life" album in it's entirety plus a greatest hits package all on the same show. Pushed the boat out as it's just after our first annivesary and got the best tickets (an eye watering £250 quid each !)

It'll probably be the last time he tours over here so it should be worth it.

Nothing lined up this summer and am quite disappointed with the lack of anything decent around London. Only have Seasick Steve to look forward to later in the year at the moment. A couple of days at the Lords tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan and some evenings at the Globe Theatre, although the new Director of the Globe, judging by her first offering, Midsummer Nights Dream, which she has turned into some gay/lesbian/gender swapping nightclub complete with disco lights and neon lights wasn't too impressive to say the least. Just hope summer 2016 will be like the summer we had 40 years ago!

Saw him in 2014 at Clapham, just a standard greatest hits and he was still brilliant. SITKOL in full will be brilliant.

Bruce @ Wembley playing the River in June BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCE

Then the week after of to my fourth time (at Porto, sixth time at both Porto and Barcelona) at Primeravera in Porto. My favourite city, and a totally chilled festival in a park by the sea, 3 euro pints of super bock, 14 euro litres of caiprinha. It's so small you can legitimately watch a bit of every band, and it's great as they put all the electronic stuff on 2am onwards. Tidy line up this year:

Animal Collective
Sigur Ros
Parquet Courts
Beach House
Dinosaur Jr
Empress Of
Floating Points live
PJ Harvey
Tortoise
Air
Battles
Chairlift
Drive Like Jehu
Explosions in the Sky
Moderat
Shellac
TITUS ANDRONICUS

Can't wait

The Heavy - next week (most underrated act out there)

Glastonbury - line up looks a bit meh to me, but the festival is simply brilliant. It's a great escape from real life. Can't wait.

Not a lot of interest in the Proms this year, with the notable exception of Bartok's Duke Bluebeard's Castle on August 3rd.

PIL and Sleaford Mods, both in Madrid I think later in the summer. Not a great deal going on it seems this summer.

Missed an invite to a Michael Nyman concert in Seville this week, fecking work getting in the way again.

Did someone mention Gary Numan? Kin ell that goes back a long way. Think he lived over by Heathrow, no idea if he was QPR though.

Coming back from New Zealand a couple of years ago we had a one night stop over in a hotel in LA. Went to the bar for a nightcap and there was a national convention for the blind taking place, thousands of blind people in the hotel.

My wife is a massive Stevie Wonder fan fan but went to the ladies and disappeared for ten minutes. While she was gone Stevie Wonder walked through with a full entourage of minders and everyone went wild but by the time she returned he'd left and was nowhere to be seen. To this day she doesn't believe me that he was there.

Went to bed early to catch our flight but got very little sleep as all night long we had a constant stream of blind drunk (literally) people trying to get in our room thinking it was theirs.

Some great gigs/festivals in there. For me;

James Taylor Quartet - Jazz Cafe week next Saturday. Should be a laugh live.

Jonathan Wilson - some place in Islington, June. Acoustic set.

Jocelyn Brown - Jazz Cafe June. Not sure if I actually needed tickets - could probably hear her outside from two blocks away

Trying to catch a Norman Jay night over the summer - missed the tickets for the thing he's doing with Sancho Panza in Brixton but will fit something in.

So the lack of football does have an upside; money to spend on something else (which my OH also wants to do).
