Assuming we will be safe for another season...... 19:14 - Mar 31 with 9488 viewsJackfath

You're the manager.
Where would you wish to strengthen the squad?
Which players who you've seen first hand this season would you like to sign for us?
Any other realistic targets you think would add to the squad?
Who would you let go?

For me, I'd like to sign Bolasi, he had another good game Saturday and I was impressed with his performance. Also Barkley from Everton.

I think those two have been the best I've seen down here this season so far, although I may have forgotten some other performances.

Absolutely. Probably more than £30m given the hype and his nationality.

Utd rumoured £30m+, but he won't go there if Moyes is still in charge. Chelsea want him in exchange for Lukaku. He's young, he's English and he's first team at Everton.

We haven't got a cat's chance in hell of getting him.

we could probabbly get barkley for 12m but that would be all we would sign so not going t happen and we don't need a CAM we have 2 back up CB lamah would be a nice signing and those in the position i mentioned above

There is absolutely no way Everton would sell us Barkley for £12m!

Right back would be right at the top of the list, would love the Frenchman Seb corchia if his move to Lille doesn't come off.

Wouldn't mind van ginkel on loan if we could pull that off.. Hasn't featured much for Chelsea and ex team mate of the bone..

Would invest in a young winger, berahino was a good shout or borini both versatile can play up top..

Who ever said Barkley for 12 mil is nuts.

If we cash in on Ash I would like to see caulker replace him or perhaps get Zouma on loan from Chelsea next year..

I want a first team Squad of 22 assembled at least 4 weeks before we kick off

Frank Arnesen as Sports Director so I can focus on training, tactics and match day team selection

Frank to secure the services of JDG, Alvaro and Lamah, the others Frank can decide maybe 5 or 6 fringe players out depending on how we are shaping up for 22 by the deadline date of -4 weeks

Frank to add a right back and a striker of some international credibility, approaching their mid 20s and the finished articles so I can focus on our existing strengths

Amat's quality backup

Can't believe I forgot Amat.

Would still like to sign a defender though, conceded way to many goals this year.

That's not down to the quality of the players involved.

We haven't been helped by the generally inconsistent nature of our keepers this season. All defences are built on the man between the sticks, and ours have struggled.

The back line needs to be drilled, especially on set pieces, and it doesn't look like much of it has been going on. Get that right and what we have is more than good enough IMO.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Amat's probably played a lot more this season than was expected. It'll do him good long term though but can't see another coming in unless we lose someone

Goalkeeper, Centre half, & back up striker would be priorities for me.
I'd be happy to see Marshall & Caulker from Cardiff, and a faster instinctive striker to support Bony or give us options (don't know who but guess there are plenty especially in the foreign leagues to be bought reasonably)

There is absolutely no chance of signing Ross Barkley.

Right back, deep lying midfielder (or Ki), winger who can use his left foot, a striker not named Alvaro Vazquez and de Guzman.

I'd be very tempted to look at centre backs too.

Add a new keeper to challenge/back-up Vorm to that list and I think you're spot on.

Centre back comes down to how Amat and Barkley are thought of within the club. If there's confidence they are the future of our defence, then we're well stocked in the position.

The only reason we need a new keeper is if Vorm leaves. I'm not a massive Tremmel fan, but as back up he's fine enough. If Vorm were to get a long term injury then I might change my mind, but with no Europa League next year, Gerry's chances should be limited. It's difficult to convince a decent keeper to join as understudy, unless you can pay them so much that they don't care (Schwarzer at Chelsea). We apparently have two good young keepers at the club, so another season out of Gerry and then promote one of them.

If Vorm were to go, I'd get Stekelenburg from Fulham, as long as he can prove his fitness.

Last year I would have agreed with you. But this year I think Tremmel has been underwhelming when he's played, Vorm has had some injury concerns and I'm not convinced by his performances overall.

I'd like us to sign someone to really challenge Vorm for the number 1 spot, but understand it's difficult to attract someone of sufficient quality considering they'll be coming in as backup initially and our financial constraints.

Definitely agree with Bolasi.Looks a real handful for Palace and they go down then we should be looking at him along with Marshall and the Hull RB

I don't think Vorm has performed to the same level this year as he did in the previous two seasons, but I think the same could be said for a number of players. Maybe a pre-season under a better defence coach (whether that's Monk or whoever), will get them clicking again.

That being said, I think he's always been prone to letting in goals from the edge/just outside the area that he really shouldn't - Moses goal for Liverpool being an example.

I've been underwhelmed by Gerry this year, but unfortunately with a keeper you never know what you're going to need. Under Rodgers, we never needed Tremmel, Laudrup swapped them round a bit last year and this year we needed him for a couple of spells where Vorm was injured and because of the increase in games. Who knows what we'll require next year?

I know what you're saying. Vorm may not miss a game next season and play brilliantly. If we go out of the cups early and with no Europa League, would we be wasting money (transfer fee and higher wages) on a player we don't need?

We could sign a Marshall or McCarthy and barely see him play. But I'd rather allocate a slightly larger chunk of our budget to this area than risk having to rely on a 36-year old Tremmel next season if Vorm plays poorly or gets injured.

I don't think we'll be spending anywhere near as much this summer as last, unless we sell someone important. JDG will cost a good few million if we can get him, but I imagine any signings of right-back, winger or striker would be of the 'young and promising' end of the scale, meaning lower fees and wages.

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.

Barkley for £12mill.

All I'm saying is that I think this can be Kyle Bartley's breakout year. There's a quality CB in there somewhere and he'll show a bit more fight and strength than Amat if things get hairy next season.

Anyone thinking we are going to sign any Cardiff players is mental, they would never sell us any players when we are such direct competition.

So can we stop bleating on about Marshall, Caulker and Campbell please?

I've only included realistic targets:
- a young GK (Alex Mccarthy / Bond at Watford)
- a young CB (Maguire of Sheff Utd - I know hes league 1 but hes only 20 and has played about 200 games.
-a really good right back - love rangel but hes not getting any younger.
- a young CM (Jonathan Williams - I know hes highly rated and wont be cheap, but hes not exactly a pulis type player is he? hence why hes out on loan.
- a young striker with a record from scoring in this country (the Donnelly experiment isn't really working, maybe the guy whos banging them in for Coventry)
- a striker on loan from 1 of the big prem clubs to provide competition for Bony or provide a viable different option (Borini / Kane etc).
-Sign Lamah permanently (he doesn't seem to mind being 4th choice and having sporadic appearances.

Add Mcmannaman or whatever his name is from Wigan to this list.

Snodgrass .....

Make sure Bartley is up for it or signing a new CB with quality.

Midfield seems okay.

A supplement to Bony, someone who is far more agressive in his runs, attacks the ball and runs deep with speed .... wouldnt mind if he was a good crosser too.

As for wingers ...hmmm .... Snodgrass, mean mean cross.

IMO

Chico is better than Caulker (Ash carried him) Spurs got rid because he wasn't good enough.

Bartley needs to be given a chance.

I wouldn't sell Taylor in fact I would play him instead of Ben.

I may have to eat my words at a later date, but if a very decent offer came in for Ben I would sell him, he is good ... but I dont believe he will ever be top flight material. But this very much depends on the offer given.

Yeah dodgy goalkeeping has been the primary reason for us conceding the fourth most goals in the whole league this season. Nothing to do with Chico's wildly inconsistent play, Ash's uncharacteristic sloppiness, Rangel continually getting beaten for pace and Davies' awful positioning.

Most people pointing out the need for a new young right back, but not many names suggested.

One name is Sam Byram from Leeds. Lots of potential and big things expected of him. Might not be ready for the Premiership yet, but who thought Davies would be until given the chance?

Also like what Ive seen from Joel Ward of Palace.
