Gerry Francis is the studio guest on the Open All R’s Podcast this week, discussing his time as a player and manager at the club as well as the current state of the team.
In a special edition of the podcast, the entire show is given over to Gerry, taking questions from listeners and the regular panel in the studio.
The genuine QPR legend talks about the 1976 team he was part of; his relationships with chairmen Jim Gregory, Richard Thompson and later Alan Sugar at Spurs; his thoughts on the current QPR set up; and he selects his greatest ever QPR team.
There’s also a story about how he discovered Nigel Martyn, and eventually sold him for £1m, from a recommendation by the Bristol Rovers tea lady; his first meeting with Les Ferdinand when he told the reserve team striker he’d play for England one day; recollections of his own interviews for the national team job; and sketchy details on where on earth he found Sammy Koejoe. "We paid £100,000 for him I think,” said Gerry. "I probably overpaid on that one.”
Great stuff this, one of the best podcasts they’ve done. David Fraser, Paul Finney and Chris Charles are join Gerry in the studio.
