Saints are rumoured to be in talks with Stoke City for American winger Brek Shea to jojn the club on loan.
Saints are believed to be considering signing Brek Shea on loan from Stoke City, the USA International has not had the best of times in the potteries since arriving in January 2013 from Dallas for a £2.5 million fee.
Back then he was a bright talent having won 26 caps for the US national team, but the move to Stoke would soon turn sour, soon after joining he picked up an injury that ruled him out for the ret of the 2013/14 season.
If he thought the following season would be any better he would be wrong, after scoring the winning goal in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final, Shea joined up with the Stoke squad on their pre-season tour of the United States and played against the Philadelphia Union where he scored in a 2—0 victory. He also picked up a knee injury which saw him miss the start of the 2013—14 season.
Oh his return he struggled to get into the Stoke side and went out on loan to Barnsley in January 2014, however after only 8 games he returned to Stoke after a confrontation with Barnsley fans after a 5-0 defeat at Huddersfield.
Brek Shea would not be the high profile signing Saints fans are clamouring for, but at 24 and with plenty of experience in the MLS as well as internationally, he will have the appetite to kick start his career again after a few set backs, this being the case he could well be just the type of player that Saints are looking for.
Perhaps with all the money we have had in the bank there is a tendency to demand high profile signings, but the reality could be that what Ronald Koeman does best is spot players with potential and turn them into quality players.
