Saints Not Afraid Of Sacking Russell Martin Even If They Have To Pay
Wednesday, 13th Nov 2024 20:28

Recent reports have suggested that Southampton have not dispensed with the services of Russell Martin due to the alleged £12 million compensation cost. However it is now suggested that this is not the case and that if they do lose faith they are willing to pay the price.

Latest update on Russell Martin's position at St Mary's has come from givemesport.com who are saying that although they believe that his job is safe at present, that the Southampton board will not hesitate should they feel that his time is up.

Money to be paid out in compensation is not going to be a factor in whether Martin stays or goes. But if results don't improve then the trigger will be pulled the Southampton board are said to be willing to spend this money if they feel they need to make a change.

They go on to say that Martin will survive the International break, Southampton fans will be divided on that decision, given

When I look at our next 6 games (including cup) I see that away at Brighton is the 'easiest'. It is distinctly possible that we will go to Fulham on 22 December with 4 points from 16 games - it will be too late to 'lose faith' then. Either sack him now or keep him for the season I would say. In other words if you are going to sack him you HAVE TO DO IT NOW.

That said I am terrified of who SR might think is an adequate replacement...

This is an amusing article. The board are indeed afraid of sacking Martin, partly because they'd have to pay. If they weren't afraid of sacking him, they'dve sacked him by now. (Unless the plan is to go straight back to the Championship.)

This is a staggering amount of compensation, if this figure is true and does raise the question how such abject failure can be rewarded this way ?

It does sound a bit high to me, and I don't consider 'Giveme Sport' that reliable source.

Why did Saints feel the need to reward `Martin with a big new contract ? We scraped up and he had no proven record in Premiership. Questions were being raised early on whether his style of play would be a success in Premier. I guess we now know.

The clubs is putting itself in a difficult situation not sacking him now , it’s only a matter of time before the fans really turn against him & that will have an effect on the players because apparently he has a great relationship with them .

Of course they could sack him and compensate him for £12 - think of all the wonderful talent we've lavished our money on, and got next to zero return, in the last 3 years (and beyond).

Agree with the sentiments above - sports republic are capable of making any situation worse. Whilst they own the club we're nothing more than a crèche for other clubs. Although they haven't shown any signs of buying one player of notable quality who would turn them a quick buck.

Unfortunately the likes of Marcus only come along once if you're lucky. We were very very lucky to have him.

i believe that the £12M compensation for changing managers also includes the wages of the incoming manager. they have inflated the price to make it sound more of a story.

i also wonder, is there a clause in the contract that states if we are relegated we can dismiss him for free or less money? either that, or the board are preparing for another year in the championship and believe that with recruitment he will bring us back up and they can sell some of our better players to raise money for the loss in money from the prem.

‘The board will not hesitate’. What a joke.

Stevie Wonder can see how are season is going to pan out with Martin in charge.

For goodness sake GET RID NOW. What is the point of keeping him for the next five games. Given his mindset, RM won't change, and we are likely to accrue NO POINTS from those games. that'll be 4pts from 48pts, ( 16 games ). It'll be all over for us by then. An almost impossible job for any incoming Manager to recover from that.
Remember Arry Redcrap, season 2004-2005 ? He took over after 16 games, and we had 12pts. In the following 22 games, he accrued 20pts, we finished on 32pts and 20th position. RELEGATED.
Ironically, another couple of pts would have kept us up. The Draw with Everton at home did for us, along with the Draw at WBA.
All water under the bridge now. Ifs and buts. If my Aunt Freda had Balls, she'd be my Uncle Fred.
I'm resigned to the fact that we will be Relegated again this season. How about that SR, TWO Relegations in three seasons.

RM to stay- some of the managers people are calling for are deluded.
He's learnt the right to have a proper bash at the task.
If we go down, its not because of limits because we have got the weakest squad. Which is fine. Someone has to be. Next year either we've stayed up and push on or we lick our wounds and rebuild in the Championship.
