All Change At Right Back For Saints Wednesday, 29th Jan 2020 16:18 According to Sky Sports it is about to be a case of one in and one out for Saints in the right back spot in the next day or so with one coming down from North London and another heading back in the same direction.
Sky Sports and other more credible sources are saying Saints are on the verge of completing the signing of Kyle Walker Peters on loan from Tottenham Hotspur although it is unclear whether an option to buy in the summer will be included in the deal.
Going in the other direction though could be Cedric Soares who is being linked with Spurs neighbour's Arsenal, again possibly a loan deal and with his contract up in the summer Saints would be happy to let him move on should they complete the KWP deal.
That will of course ask questions about Yan Valery's future at the club, the Saints youngster who has more experience than Walker Peters looked set to be the regular at right back ths season but has found himself out of the managers thoughts with various flimsy excuses for his absence suggesting all is not well off the field between club and player.
Another question will be who will play in the position at Spurs next week with Walker Peters being unable to play because he would have needed to have been signed before the date the first game at St Mary's was played.
It looks like the transfer merry go round is likely to start turning at St Mary's and it will be interesting to see if one or two more arrive and depart.

Isn't KWP carrying a hamstring problem so we won't be seeing him in the side for a few weeks anyway?

Kat and Gao really are desperate for cash if they are prepared to let a first team regular go mid-season. They don't care whether they are jeopardising our chances of a good league position, possibly even Europa League, and a cup final in the second half of the season as they feel we are no longer threatened with relegation, but without our regular right back, we might be. W;aker-Peters is a young, untried player, currently 4th choice at Spurs, who might be a good prospect for the future but not at the cost of losing a top class first team regular like Cedric.

We need to keep Cedric at least until end of the season and who knows maybe longer on recent showing, as for Valery this does seem a bit of a mystery hope it's not too serious. Walker-Peters, Hamstring injury when he's not even playing first-team football is a bit of a question mark? can he attack and defend as Ralph has us playing looks a bit dodgy to me for this season, but there again what do we really know what Ralph has in mind.

Pathetic decision if indeed its corect. As dirk doone so correctly puts it where on earth is the advantage to the team going forward?Replacing a tried and tested international player with a complete shot in the dark for the remainder of the season. Adding insult to injury, with also the suggestion that now or at seasons end we won't even get a fee for Cedric. Try and sugar coat this one if you will please Nick as I've no doubt you will as usual take the owners and management line, although I will be happy if you prove me wrong in my suggestion.

The Valery situation is a weird one. A virus, i think i read somewhere? Where's Kayne Ramsay this season too? He was deemed good enough to play against City last season, but is now below Danso at right back? Come to think of it, where's Ivan Golac these days?! [ask your Dad, kids]

We should be getting Cedric Soares on a new contract now not letting him go for £5 million. He is far to good to let go for that sort of money and he is only 28.

These transfers would only make sense if we've also got another more experienced right back coming in during the remainder of this transfer window!

More daftness! The team has been playing well with Cedric at right back and the fee we would get is low. It will disturb the consistency to rejig the defence when it was starting to look a bit more solid. Danso has been treated badly and was clearly short on confidence against Spurs and has been a disaster in the other games he has played at right back. I would play Yoshida as he has played well enough in that position before.

Soares doesn't want to be here or there's something going on behind the scenes, Walker-Peters is a young England U21 player. It seems to make sense to me. As for Valery; it's entirely possible he's had a virus for a few weeks. The issue I see with him as a player, is he lacks a little bit of composure on the ball. Too many times he just lumps it out of play, which needs addressing. I like Valery thou as he's fairy solid defensively and will push forward.

Just to highlight how bad we are without Cedric, we haven't won a single league game this season when he wasn't in the team

Not sure that Cedric wants to stay anyway. When out of contract he walks free and Saints get NOTHIN£. Another club may offer him a 2-3 year contract, by which time he will be over 30 ....at the same time that Saints are looking to bring in younger players. YES - he experienced, but was regularly at fault for a number of vital goals we conceded. If we get £x mill. as " loan fee"; we re-coup his original cost and save £1.5 mill. salary. A loan for Walker-Peters saves us forking out the £12-15 million that Spurs are apparantly demanding - and a chance to see if he fits in, then if OK ?... we buy him in the summer. There will be a lot of changes this year and building a new side will be priority for Ralph considering the upcoming OOC players and loan-outs we have at present. We have to move on; Elyounoussi, Forster, Lemina, Carrillo, Hoedt etc, etc ...(well we all know the list is long) and the sooner we re-coup some money and lower the club's salary burden - the better it will be for "new names" to come in, and this is only the start.

Arsenal are paying less than 1 million for him, whereas our results when Cedric hasn't been in our team indicate his loss is going to cost the club millions of pounds in lost league place money. So, no it's not sensible at all.

It's funny how everyone suddenly becomes outraged when the club gets rid of a player who has criminally under-performed over the last 3 seasons. Yes, Cedric's been playing well recently, but this is a player who doesn't want to be at the club and is regularly at fault for goals and breaks down attacks with his poor crossing. I think he's a good professional and has had great moments with Saints, but we're getting in a promising young full back to complement Valery (who's got big potential) and are trying before we buy, not making the same errors the board have made in the past (knee-jerk, expensive signings). We'll have a chance to invest is a good Right Back in the summer where the market is less volatile and more good defenders are likely to be available. Those saying this decision is going to cost us league positions are likely the same who berated Cedric in the games he's cost us points. Get behind the club and cheer us on to top 10.

He's played well recently but was that with an eye to the door? Regardless he's dajfu. I can't blame him if he is after a last payday as careers in football are short and unpredictable. I think he's been a good player, though inconsistent and fantastic value for the fee we paid for him even if we get nothing back. Wish him all the best for the future.

The Telegraph reports that Cedric is set to join the Gunners on loan for the rest of the campaign. The report notes that Arsenal will pay less than £1 million as a loan fee for the 28-year-old. If this is true we must be mad or in deeper money troubles than we thought. Why loan him out when he has been playing well in the team?

As the voice of the Ugly and with your suggested close connections with the club I'm genuinely interested to know where you stand on this one Nick as presently you appear mighty quite.Perhaps you can also let us have some update from the club in regard to the recent and ongoing away ticket take up fiasco please? Failing a response do we take it that much like the rest of us,the club aren't talking to you either?

Good business for Saints, Soares clearly has not been interested in the last season and a half, leading to him going out on loan. Has only started performing recently to put himself in the window, so can jog on with that attitude. Plus we get 5 million 😇
