On Line Prediction Table Says Saints Can Still Finish 4th Tuesday, 24th Mar 2015 10:07 After filling in an online prediction table I have renewed hope that Saints season could still end with a bang. See what you think with the link.
With 8 games to go I had thought that perhaps Saints chances of qualifying for the Champions League had gone out of the window, however after filling in an online prediction table perhaps Saints chances are not as far fetched as you would think.
When I filled it out I purely went to form ie how you would predict that the games would go, therefore i had us drawing at home with Spurs and losing at Manchester City, however in the other six games i did predict wins, it will be tough especially at Everton, but we should be capable of winning the other two home games other than Spurs as well as the games at Leicester, Sunderland and Stoke, a big ask yes, but not impossible.
For the other teams i have again gone for what seems the most probably result and with Manchester United and Liverpool having a raft of tough fixtures Saints coming in on the rails is not out of the question.
So if Saints win 5, draw 2 (Everton & Spurs) & lose 1 (Man City) that will give us a total of 70 points and although that will be far behind the 79 I have Arsenal getting in third place, it would still be a point ahead of United on 69 in 5th.
Of course this is not an exact science and we actually have to win five games to do this, but it really is not beyond the realms of possibility, we just need to have a spurt forward and in every season in every division there is usually a club that does that in the run in and looking at our fixtures we have as good a chance as any.

Unfortunately I think Man U will get a (very undeserved) 4th place this season. They have been rubbish all season long and have been very lucky. Now they seem to be picking up form. Scoring a goal seemed unrealistic recently, but a final push is most doable. However we are in unknown territory and experience might be the difference between us and United. I think if you asked any saints fan if we could be realistically thinking about 5th, ahead of L'pool and Spurs they would have ******

"Of course this is not an exact science" - pity or we would be 4th! The trouble is that Man Utd are starting to play well and I think it is highly optimistic to only give them 10 from 8 games. Alright they have been lucky this season but that will have no bearing on things to come. I believe that we would need at least 74 so 7 wins please lads...

Nick how do you have UTD finishing on 69pts? Even assuming they lose to chelsea, City and arsenal, surely they'll pick up more than 3 wins and a draw from home games against villa, WBA and away trips to Everton, Palace and hull? Who did you have them losing too? 10 points from 27 available in Utds current form is hopeful.

I think we'll end up finishing 6th and finish ahead of either Liverpool or Spurs. I suspect we'd need 74 points to get CL football and although I'll never give up believing, 7 wins seems an awfully big task. Unfortunately I can't see Man U or Arsenal falling away and with Chelski virtually assured the title, that just leaves Man City who'll probably limp home just above us.

I went through the predictor and, trying not to be too biased, Saints ended in 4th place (72 points) above Man City in 5th. It's surprising how many of our rivals for CL play each other. On current form Man C will miss out unless they improve.

I've got us finishing 17th, did I do something wrong?

The only certainty is that we can finish no lower than 14 th.

Hopefully liverpool are experiencing injury and suspension problem now. Something the other outfit id love to finish above ( spuds) are avoiding. No injuries, no transfer speculation on Kane and many lucky wins. God I'd love us to beat them!

I can see 5th, but not 4th. At the other end, I like that it is a mathematical impossibility for us to be relegated. On its own that makes this a good season.

I just did the predictor table and we won the league with 77 points Spuds finished 8th behind Swansea - mind you we did thrash them 33-0!

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Oxford United Polls |
