Council respond to Spotland bid Thursday, 7th Aug 2014 09:28 by Col Councillor Allen Brett has spoken on BBC Radio Manchester about our bid to buy Spotland Stadium. The councillor who was appointed to the Stadium Company board earlier this Summer responded by saying that he "was flabberghasted" and that the first he had heard of it was was when Radio Manchester contacted him on Tuesday for his response to the story. Brett stated that the way the Stadium Company was set up was that if anyone wanted to transfer their shares, then they had to offer them to the other parties to begin with - something that historically Hornets (as opposed to the reformed Hornets) failed to do when using their shares to guarantee a loan with the RFL which ultimately led to the RFL acquiring their shareholding. He said that if Rochdale Football Club had come up with a plan to acquire the stadium, they should get in contact with him as soon as possible and start talking. When asked if he would like to Spotland under the ownership of one party, Brett replied: "I want two professional clubs working together and working in the town. I want to see Rochdale represented both at football level and rugby level professionally and working for the town."
