A few seasons ago I was my wife's plus 1 at her annual company do and the weekend was to include a stay at a top London hotel, Chelsea v Man Utd in a box (company boss is a Manure fan), comedy club and then Dinner followed by club, generousI know. Anyway the boss was trying to be billy big bollocks and state he could get a box at the scum no problem, but low and behold, he'd not been to Old Trafford for 5 years and no box was forthcoming and then the game was moved to the Sunday! Shit nothing to do Saturday afternoon? My missus then says QPR are at home why don't go there? So to cut a long story short, he got a box v Huddersfield helped by my ST holders discount and off we went The reception from the QPR stewardesses was great but the bosses wife was not impressed with the wine list and only a three course meal, so fine wines from the directors box was ordered along with an intermediate course and a cheese course. Wayne Fereday came in to chat (mostly with me!) and joined us for a few drinks. We were told on more than one occasion not to place beers on the shelf in front of the box in full view of the pitch and twice asked to keep the noise down, Charlie scored twice , we won, we all took Stan James to the cleaners based on Charlie's performance and as we left were told that they had never had a box full of people singing and chanting so much and to date had run up the largest drinks bill of the season! Happy Days! |

Family lived Chiswick & Acton until mid 60s then we moved to Kent, leaving me Nan, Great Aunt and 2 Uncles up there until they died off, last one 20 years ago! No Rangers in the Garden of England and was the brunt of most football related jokes at school In my late teens moved to Newington Green as I worked in the City and then to Highgate Village (still no Rangers!) in my 20s, Then back south to Sundridge Park (Bromley) where there were a good handfull of R's and played snooker with a certain Mr T Fenwick in Bromley snooker club on a couple of occasions! Went out with a girl whose cousin was an R and we went to most games 1985 through to mid 90s when I dumped her and slowly lost touch with her cousin! Got married and moved out to West Malling and then work brought me down to Southampton. A good few Rangers in and around the area, including Marchwood, Totton |

My youngest played for Southampton and Bournemouth from the age of 8, signed at age 9 on a two year contract with Saints, then released and spent two years at Bournemouth which ended after a medial ligament injury. He received great training at both clubs, Southampton focused on team play and moved players to all positions to develop them and see what suited them best, Bournemouth more on individual game contribution. The experience was great and He got to play at Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham as well as most West Country teams when at Bournemouth. Lots of travelling but Sam says it was worth it, but be prepared for the kid to fall massively when released. Only one of his team mates from Saints uner 8s has made it and he's now fourth choice keeper at Bournemouth Sam went on to play at Winchester City before a pelvic injury put him out for 16 months Good luck and hope they enjoy the experience if you go for it [Post edited 9 Feb 2015 22:50]

TF did tweet something long the lines of 'we have the players, and with the right motivation we will be okay' . This says to me that TF and the board aren't so sure about Harry's ability to motivate the squad and may be starting to lose the dressing room. Barton slagging off the players in the dressing room at Stoke wont have helped and shows unrest so IMHO if we lose to Saints and to Sunderland he will go. I expect Sir Les and Hoddle have said that the squad is good enough along with a couple of the under 21s just need a different approach |

All I will say is that as a parent you have to decide what behaviour is acceptable to expose your children to and for the very reasons stated in this thread I did not take my children to away games until they were 14 and a bit more streetwise. It's not right as anyone should be able to attend a sporting event regardless of age, but unfortunately football is an exception Spitting, throwing coins etc is bad but it's not everyone and doesn't happen every game as some on here would lead us to believe [Post edited 1 Feb 2015 18:57]

some interesting comments on here as some fans say this kind of behaviour is part and parcel of following a football team away whilst others says its unacceptable. I suspect a lot of those who are slating it are the keyboard warriors who very rarely, if at all, attend away games. Johnny Vaughan (keeping to the Chelsea theme) has a tag line 'never let the football ruin a good day out at the football' which sums up what a lot of people seeas the match day. The travelling long distances gives many a chance to catch up with mates, family, sons etc have a few beers, something to eat and then put up with 90 mins of dire entertainment. Yes a few may go over the top but its not all of us The free coach travel is okay but again no seat tickets are issued so its sit where you want so dont moan if someone is in the seat you happened to use on the way up. One win or even a point away will see things lighten up, so get off your high horses and enjoy a good day out at the footie Remember, what goes on at football.stays at football!! |

If I pay good money to watch a game I want to see all the action, so if it means standing then I will regardless of whose behind me. When we had terraces you never heard of people complaining There are certain areas of LR where you can sit with little chance of people standing and areas where you know the majority will stand. If you want to sit SAR blocks b to e, ER stand S to W, Lower Loft. All other areas and you know people will stand at some point during the game or for all of it. Buy you ST/match day ticket in the most suitable area for what you want, its not rocket science [Post edited 18 Aug 2014 21:39]

I sit in row v R Block and in our area we have a mixture of blokes in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, we all stand as the team attack, particulary if its towards the school end, old and younger alike! We all stood for the penalty on Sat and we all stood for extra time v Wigan, so whats the problem I'm in row J at Tottenham, and I expect to stand the whole game |
| Forum Reply | 1982 FA Cup final and replay - were you there? Help needed at 16:52 20 May 2014
Yeah I was at both matches, but had to plead with the the club to get tickets for the Sat. From what I remember we had to present ticket stubs or vouchers to get a ticket which had to include a Mon night game which I think was against Orient and only 10K turned up. I sent all my stubs in but got no ticket. I wrote to the box office and asked how did 25k tickets sell out based on stubs that included that game, I had sent mine in but was unsuccessful. Two days later two tickets arrived but no explanation! Great day out just remember arriving at Wembley Park having travelled up from Kent and me and my brother in hoops tops walking all the way down Wembley way in amoungst the Tottenham fans, a bit scary! The game itself was great and felt sick after Spurs scored. I was in a upper tier behind the goal and the whole place fell silent. I started singing and carried on singing for 5 mins on my own , then all or a sudden everyone else joined in Fenwick scored and this guy in front of me turned around lifted me up above his shoulders shouting 'you got us that goal, you got us that goal' he then dropped me, picked me up and planted the biggest kiss i'd experienced to that date, right on my cheek!! Got a slap from a few Spurs fans on the way out who were waiting at the foot of the staircase but gave as good as i got. Had to go back to school on the Monday when tickets went on sale for the replay and my brother was due to travel back to uni in Manchester. Unbeknown to me he queued for three hours at LR to get me two replay tickets before heading up north. I got home from school and there were the tickets on the kitchen table, legend! Went to the replay with my best mate, a West Ham fan and after got seriously wasted in a bar in Villiers street before heading home from Charing Cross. One lasting memory was Tony Currie takling Hoddle on the edge of our box, clearing the ball and then turning to the QPR fans with a fisted salute screaming 'come on' Two great games and two great days out [Post edited 20 May 2014 16:59]
