Week 22 results ASTON VILLA 2 LEICESTER CITY 1 Leon Bailey scored a late winner as Villa condemned Leicester to a fifth straight Premier League defeat. A sublime 5 got this spot-on, and a further 17 had the outcome. CRYSTAL PALACE 1 CHELSEA 1 Chelsea's winless Premier League run has been extended to four games, as they scored with their only shot on target, after Jean-Philippe Mateta struck late to salvage a draw for Palace. Well done to gerry_us for being the only one to have this spot-on, and only Sector4 and BFG got the outcome. 18 predicted a win for Chelsea with a mammoth 14 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score. BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 1 ARSENAL 1 Joao Pedro scored a second-half penalty to dent Arsenal's title hopes as they were held to a draw. Well done to gerry_us for being the only one to get this spot-on, and another 4 had the outcome. 17 predicted a win for Arsenal. NORWICH CITY 2 COVENTRY CITY 1 Substitute Amankwah Forson scored his first two Norwich goals in the 91st and 95th minute to earn them a remarkable Championship victory. Those late goals were good news for the massive 10 who had this spot-on, and the other 7 who got the outcome. PRESTON NORTH END 1 OXFORD UNITED 1 Oxford made it four Championship games unbeaten under new manager Gary Rowett, who saw his 100% record come to an end with this draw. Former Birmingham and Millwall boss Rowett also continued his incredible unbeaten run against Preston, which has stretched to 15 games. 3 got this spot-on, and one more had the outcome. 17 predicted a win for Preston. WATFORD 1 SHEFFIELD UNITED 2 United ended a run of three Championship games without a win with this victory at out-of-form Watford. A magnificent 7 had this spot-on, and further 6 got the outcome. LEYTON ORIENT 1 SHREWSBURY TOWN 0 Play-off chasing Orient made it five wins in a row by overcoming relegation-threatened Shrewsbury, who fail to have a shot on target. Only oxfcolu and burnsieespana got this spot-on, and another 19 had the outcome. STOCKPORT COUTY 1 MANSFIELD TOWN 2 Mansfield made it four wins in five games as goals from Lee Gregory and Will Evans saw them defeat their fellow play-off hopefuls. Well done to unitedwhites for being the only one to have this spot-on, and only oxfcolu got the outcome. 17 predicted a win for Stockport. COLCHESTER UNITED 0 ACCRINGTON STANLEY 2 The U's were made to look like a right load of Wall(e)y's, as Shaun sinks them at the double. Nobody got this spot-on, and only blueeagle had the outcome. The other 22 predicted a win for Colchester, thinking they were actually going to turn up, but they even fail to have shot on target. MILTON KEYNES DONS 0 SALFORD CITY 1 Hakeeb Adelakun scored the winner as Salford made it six League Two victories in a row, all without conceding a goal. 3 had this spot-on, and one more got the outcome. After the last week of the year went off with a bang, this first week of the new year was heading to be a dud in comparison, but it improved as the afternoon progressed, and finally came good, thanks mainly to the late late show from Norwich. In the end it produced the best week for 3 pointers so far this season, with a decent 33 in total. Current Premier champ concordman has struggled so far this season, but he has stuck by his principles, and it paid off in a big way this week with four 3 pointers, the wins for Villa, Norwich, Sheff Utd and Salford, and one outcome, to give him a fantastic 13 points. A total usually good enough to be the weeks top scorer, but not this week, as gerry_us also had four 3 pointers, the wins for Norwich and Sheff Utd and the draws at Palace and Brighton, and two outcomes, to give him a brilliant 14 points. Two members did very well to get three 3 pointers. They both had the wins for Norwich and Sheff Utd and the Preston 1-1. They were Sector4, who also got three outcomes, to give him an excellent 12 points, and wessex_exile, who also had two outcomes, to give him a superb 11 points. Best of the five who got two 3 pointers was mfb_cufc, who had the wins for Norwich and Salford, and three outcomes, to give him a useful 9 points. Best of those to have one 3 pointer was oxfcolu, who had the Orient 1-0 and four outcomes, to give him a decent 7 points. Happy Cup Just a reminder for those who have yet to post their predictions for the Quarter-finals. They take place next weekend. In the Premier We have new leader, as the useful week for mfb_cufc brings an end to the excellent 20 week reign at the top for blueeagle. A decent 6 points for Daniel and thrillseeker, and they remain third and fourth on the most 3 pointer rule. The excellent week for Sector4 moves him up a couple of places to fifth. A decent week for unitedwhites, that included getting the Preston 1-1 and the good Mansfield 2-1 spot-on, keeps him sixth. An unfortunate missed week for basher2010, drops him a couple of places, and has him looking down instead of up, for the first time this season, as he joins the group looking to avoid the drop. That group is now more competitive than it has been all season, By having the wins for Villa and Norwich, a decent week for RSCOSWORTH keeps his head above water, The decent week for oxfcolu moves him out of the bottom three once again, as he swaps places with ghughes11 again, for the sixth time in the last seven weeks. Now there is only one point separating those in the relegation zone, as the fantastic week for concordman gets him off the bottom, after spending the last six weeks there. Last week he was 11 points from safety, now it is only 3. Showing once again what a difference one big week can make. In Division One By having the Sheff Utd 2-1 spot-on, it was enough for bwildered to remain top for the second week running. A decent week for Tropical_Us, that included getting the wins for Villa and Norwich spot-on, moves him up a place, and into the other automatic spot once again. The superb week for wessex_exile moved him up three places, and back to the third place he last held after Week 15, just ahead of noah4x4 on the most 3 pointer rule. Having the Villa 2-1 spot-on keeps Lewis_1 in fifth. A decent week for durham_exile, with the wins for Norwich and Sheff Utd spot-on, moves him up a place into the final play-off spot again. Three outcomes for Jorash63 brings his good run to an end, and he drops out of the top six, but only a point further back. The brilliant week for gerry_us moves him up three places, and within sight of the play-offs. THE TABLES (160 out of 280 played) (Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post) Week 23 Fixtures It is the FA Cup 3rd Round this week, and we keep those fixtures for the Happy Cup. So it is 6 games from the limited fixtures in Leagues 1 & 2. BLACKPOOL v CAMBRIDGE UNITED NORTHAMPTON TOWN v BARNSLEY STEVENAGE v BURTON ALBION AFC WIMBLEDON v CHELTENHAM TOWN GILLINGHAM v FLEETWOOD TOWN PORT VALE v BARROW Good luck everybody. Week 21 results EVERTON 0 NOTTINGHAM FOREST 2 Forest ended the year on a high by beating toothless Everton to move up to second in the Premier League. Only noah4x4 and Lewis_1 got this spot-on, and a further 9 had the outcome. FULHAM 2 AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 Dango Ouattara came off the bench to get an 89th minute equaliser for Bournemouth at Fulham as both sides took their unbeaten runs to seven Premier League games. Only burnsieespana and Jorash63 had this spot-on, and another 4 got the outcome. SWANSEA CITY 2 LUTON TOWN 1 Myles Peart-Harris' 91st minute winner saw Swansea claim a dramatic victory over 10-man Luton, who scored with their only shot on target. A massive 10 got this spot-on, and a further 7 had the outcome. BOLTON WANDERERS 3 LINCOLN CITY 0 Jay Matete scored twice in the second half as Bolton scored with their only three shots on target to beat 10-man Lincoln. Nobody had this spot-on, but 19 did get the outcome. LEYTON ORIENT 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0 Orient got the better of relegation-threatened Cambridge to extend their unbeaten run of league matches to six. An enormous 11 got this spot-on, in what was the weeks most predicted score, and another 10 had the outcome. FLEETWOOD TOWN 1 HARROGATE TOWN 1 Harrogate goalkeeper James Belshaw saved a last-minute penalty to secure a draw and deny Pete Wild victory in his first game in charge of Fleetwood. A sublime 5 had this spot-on, and one more got the outcome. After a number of tough weeks recently, it was good for the years final week to have the best 6 game week of the season so far. It produced an amazing 30 spot-ons in total. It goes to show what can happen when the "good things" actually come good. It was mainly thanks to the wins for Swansea and Orient both having double figure 3 pointers. It is the first time I can ever rembering that happening in the same week before. With so many 3 pointers I would expect someone to have a good week, and we did have not one but two. They were thrillseeker and bwildered, who each had three 3 pointers, the wins for Swansea and Orient and the Fleetwood 1-1, and two outcomes, to give them both a brilliant 11 points, and a share of being the weeks top scorer. Six members did well to have two 3 pointers, with best also having two outcomes, to give them all an excellent 8 points. They were ghughes11 and concordman, who both got the wins for Swansea and Orient, unitedwhites, who had the Orient 2-0 and the Fleetwood 1-1, and finally Sector4, who got the Swansea 2-1 and the Fleetwood 1-1. The other two were RSCOSWORTH and Tropical_U, who each had the wins for Swansea and Orient, and one outcome, to give them both a decent 7 points. Happy Cup All the details for the Quarter-finals are now available on the separate Happy Cup thread. U'sual Champions League After today's results we finally know who this seasons 12 qualifiers are. The current holder blueeagle qualifies automatically. The other 11 are the top points scorers over the two divisions. They are:- mfb_cufc, Daniel, thrillseeker, bwildered, basher2010, noah4x4, Tropical_Us, Jorash63, Lewis_1, unitedwhites and Sector4. There is a new format in the UEFA Champions League this season, and the Round of 16 is starting later on Tuesday 4th March. This competition will start on that date, and all details will be on a separate thread in about the middle of February. In the Premier Having the Swansea 2-1 spot-on helped blueeagle to increase his lead by a point, as mfb_cufc got four outcomes, and was one of only two who failed to have a 3 pointer in this division. A solid 5 pints for Daniel, that included getting the Orient 2-0 spot-on, keeps him in third, but only on the most 3 pointer rule, from thrillseeker, who moved up a place, and back into contention, after his top scoring performance. Three outcomes for basher2010, and he drops a place. By virtue of posting first, unitedwhites[ moves above Sector4, and into the top half for the first time since Week 7. More importantly they both confirmed their qualification for the U'sual Champions League after their excellent weeks. The rest of the division is all about avoiding relegation, and after they all had decent weeks, the only significant change has ghughes11 moving out of the bottom three once again, at the expense of oxfcolu, as they continue with the hokey cokey. In Division One The lead has changed hands once again, as the top scoring performance from bwilidered has taken him to the summit for the fifth different time this season. A decent week for noah4x4 but last weeks leader has to settle for the other automatic spot this week. A decent week also for Tropical_Us, but he drops to third. With a solid 5 points each for Jorash63 and Lewis_1, and it is the former who continues to remain ahead on the most 3 pointer rule, in fourth and fifth. A decent week for wessex_exile keeps him the final play-off place. The rest of the league remains the same as last week, with a decent week from durham_exile keeping him within a point of the play-offs. THE TABLES (150 out of 280 played) (Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post) Week 22 Fixtures 10 games picked by this weeks guest BFG. Week 20 results BURNLEY 2 WATFORD 1 Burnley kept pace with the Championship's top two after this win, to preserve their unbeaten home record. A super 6 got tis spot-on, and a further 11 had the outcome. LEEDS UNITED 4 OXFORD UNITED 0 Manor Solomon scored one and teed up two more as Leeds coasted to a ninth successive home win and sent floundering Oxford, who failed to have a shot on target, into the Championship relegation zone. Nobody had this spot-on, but 22 did get the outcome. MANSFIELD TOWN 1 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0 Mansfield secured their first win in eight league games with a goal from Deji Oshilaja. Well done to noah4x4 for being the only one to get this spot-on, and another 8 had the outcome. WIGAN ATHLETIC 2 SHREWSBURY TOWN 2 League One strugglers Shrewsbury came back from two goals down in the final quarter to steal a draw. Well done to Moor_Pinot for being the only one to have this spot-on, and only unitedwhites and gerry_us got the outcome. CHESTERFIELD 1 AFC WIMBLEDON 0 Ex-U's loanee Armando Dobra's goal after 3 minutes gave Chesterfield victory, to make it four wins in a row. Only mfb_cufc and basher2010 got this spot-on, and a further 12 had the outcome. NEWPORT COUNTY 6 MILTON KEYNES DONS 3 Bryn Morris and Bobby Kamwa both scored hat-tricks as Newport ended their six-game winless run in League Two with this emphatic victory, and stretched their unbeaten league run to five games. Nobody had this spot-on, though 4 did get the outcome. 15 predicted a win for MK Dons with 11 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score. SWINDON TOWN 3 GRIMSBY TOWN 1 Ian Holloway celebrated his 1,000th game as a manager in style as his Swindon side blew away Grimsby courtesy of a Kabongo Tshimanga double. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, but 8 did have the outcome. A mixed bag of results, that incredibly almost produced a week of wins for all the home teams, with only a late equaliser from Shrewsbury putting paid to that. A good week for the hosts then, but it only helped to achieve a total of 10 spot-ons, that were shared out, with 10 members getting one each. When it comes to the weeks top scorer, for what must be the first time, it is a seven-way go, with blueeagle, Jorash63 and gerry_us having the Burnley 2-1, and mfb_cufc, basher2010, noah4x4 and Moor_Pinot, with the 3 pointers mentioned above. They each also had three outcomes, to give them all a decent 6 points. A special mention for unitedwhites and Tropical_Us, who both had an impressive five outcomes. U'sual Champions League Just the 6 games to go before we find out who this seasons 12 qualifiers are. Current champ blueeagle has qualified automatically, and the current member in the important eleventh, and final, qualifying place is wessex_exile with his 81 points. But it is only on the first to post rule from unitedwhites. This could be the first time that tie-breaker rules decides who qualifies, so posting first could be significant. Happy Cup All the details for the Quarter-finals will be on a separate thread sometime after Boxing Day. In the Premier A decent week for the top two means blueeagle maintains his 2 point lead over mfb_cufc. It is now a 9 point gap to Daniel in third, but along with basher2010 and thrillseeker they should comfortably qualify for the U'sual Champions League. But is a 6 game shoot out for Sector4 and unitedwhites to see who qualifies, as they are only separated by the first to post rule. At the bottom the relegation zone remains unchanged for the first time in six weeks, as it was after the Lord Mayors show for oxfcolu, but his outcome was enough to keep him out the bottom three on the most 3 pointer rule. In Division One The lead has changed once again, as the decent week for noah4x4 takes him back there, after a week away. The impressive five outcomes for Tropical_Us moved him up a couple of places and back into the other automatic spot once again. Three outcomes for last weeks leader bwildered drops him to third. The decent week for Jorash63 moved him up another two places, as he continues his relentless run, up to fourth. Three outcomes for Lewis_1, as he also drops two to fifth. A solid 5 points for wessex_exile moves him up a place into the final play-off spot, after two weeks away, as he takes advantage of an unfortunate missed week for durham_exile, that drops him out of the top six for the first time since Week 7. A solid 5 points for Blue4U2, and a decent week for Moor_Pinot, moved them both up a place, and very much in contention for the play-offs. THE TABLES (144 out of 280 played) (Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post) Week 21 Fixtures EVERTON v NOTTINGHAM FOREST FULHAM v AFC BOURNEMOUTH SWANSEA CITY v LUTON TOWN BOLTON WANDERERS v LINCOLN CITY LEYTON ORIENT v CAMBRIDGE UNITED FLEETWOOD TOWN v HARROGATE TOWN Good luck and a Merry Christmas to all members. I shall be out until late on Sunday, so this weeks update will be on Monday. [Post edited 24 Dec 2024 18:49]
