Oh for God's sake. There is more than one meaning for score. yes you can hoof a ball into a net (or not in the case of Gylfi's first attempt today) and SCORE but scoring is also counting. Hence Angel's Swansea appearances outscore the entire starting Swansea lineup today.
Never mind. I just thought it was lightly interesting and unusual. In humour. |

Someone has probably posted this in a thread already but I was interested in how the maths worked out.
Angel Rangel made 374 senior appearance for us in his career. Todays Swansea starting lineup between them have made approximately 290, or 180 if you discount Naughton. I wonder how often this odd stat has occurred where a former player outscores the entire team he used to play for?

I don't think anyone has mentioned this above. On paper the 'stats' look awful. In reality the team were heroic in battling every moment, every tackle. If we stay up on GD it is results like this that are crucial. I still think it might go down to GD even if we aren't involved.
The bottom line is that Carlos said a month ago he didn't have much regard for stats. I know that after the game I was hungry, but felt that I had eaten half a chicken  |

Pointless appealling that red is my opinion. Move on.
For me it is a double offence, two yellows or more likely two reds. I think Hogg got away with it because he made a sort of 'save myself dive' after the impact and his rolling around was more dramatic than Ayew's. For such an important match and so early in the game, a serious telling off for the pair of them, two yellows and a drop-ball restart would be the common sense option, but that's easy to say in hindsight.
As an aside Fabianski made a wonderful save to keep us in the game tipping that ball. He was well positioned to shepherd a lot of close calls too. Leading candidate for player of the season for me. |

Carlos' record as a manager mirrors his playing career. I think from memory he started managing about 16 years ago and with a 3 year sabbatical has still managed 15+ clubs. He is apparently a wandering star. I would be courting him big time for another 1 year contract, no strings attached, we love you Carlos etc etc.
He reminds me quite a bit of Ian Holloway. Knows his game, knows his squad, manages very very left field. Holloway has had personal family issues that have affected his football career and but for that I could have seen him in the European mix. As Holloway took his players at Blackpool on the big dipper and to play bingo, I could see Carlos taking the squad to the coast for a run up and down the steps at Mwnt, a sea canoeing trip and a dolphin watch. He realises the goldfish bowl a squad lives in and attempts to extract them from that to avoid a jaded relationship between trainers and players. Anything to retain a bond.
Anyway, by hook or by crook Man U contrived to win. I feel sorry for Palace, but honestly, not that sorry.... |

...another factor is goal difference. If we do lose games, it is vital we don't cave in and lose by a hatful. GD played a part in overtaking West Ham on Saturday. Stoke and Huddersfield are badly placed here at the moment.
Fabianski's performance this season has been crucial and his defence has to play its part, heads held up, even if we are losing a game by a single goal. |

I'm not normally one to do this sort of thing, but the fixture list and the table as it stands have thrown out some interesting permutations when I looked last night.
Although nothing is a given obviously, I reckon West Brom have had it, they are too far adrift unless a miracle happens. Stoke have a really tricky run in with Man City, Everton, Arsenal and Spurs their next games. If those results go to form (Arsenal ??? :-) ) then they too will be losing touch with the pack. That leaves one space to fill in the drop zone. We are not safe by any means and have some tough fixtures ourselves.
The upcoming Huddersfield and West Brom journeys are critical and we need to find some away form from somewhere. Our next home game may not be until mid April unless the Southampton game is slotted in somewhere beforehand.
On the bright side Man City could have wrapped up the title as early as 7th April, the same time we travel to West Brom. When we travel to Manchester on Sunday 22nd it will be two days before the first leg of the Champions League Semis and one would give City an excellent chance of being there.
Far too many Ifs and Buts really, but is is proving to be a fascinating season. |

Tummer talks a lot of sense, he's well worth reading.
It's interesting to hear that Bob reckons that the Chairman & the Supporters Trust never backed him. That puts the lie to blaming Huw for his appointment, and is indicative of the input the new owners had in his appointment.
It's also interesting to mull over recent history. There is a pattern to a lot of the last few seasons and the Club's habit of eating managers.

I like Carlos .... alongside all the comedic quotes lies a very clever manager of men I suspect. He has all the qualities of extracting the best out of a lot of different players and keeping them happy. He also blames himself when things go wrong. He might not be the finished article as a tactician but he seems to have very quickly moulded a squad that want to play for him. I didn't see any of these attributes in Bradley. |

That's what I was afraid of. An upcoming asset or fit in replacement home grown for Chelsea.... BUT, BUT, if they want, really want, Llorente, would you negotiate an exchange? Chelsea can afford the services of an over 30 on a short shelf life but we can speculate on a twenty year old. As an obvious 'selling club' it might be exceptional business in 12 months time to secure Abraham full time.... |

The longer this goes on, the less it looks good for Everton to me. There is something in the deal that is obviously sticking in their craw. It makes the Swansea board look less and less of a roll over-and-give-up 'selling club' in the lower reaches of European/Prem/Championship football.
Although Siggy has said nothing since the end of season bash, lots of media outlets have put words in his mouth. He has trained with whoever, is up to speed and is probably one of the brighter and more media savvy players in the top flight. This Everton deal looked a shoo-in 72 hours ago. I'm not so certain now and will personally be pleased if it goes end up.

This is 2008 Lehman Bros economics Lisa. There is cash to buy anyway at the moment. Perhaps 20-30 million from the TV deal, without 'borrowing.' Your first paragraph implies we have nothing invested in the first place in Gylfi as an asset and have to take it on the chin if 50 million doesn't come our way then mourn the loss of three players we could buy (Baston, Tabanou, Frankenstein???) . This is the economics of people who borrow, or 'deploy leverage' in that shitti e st of US phrases. If nothing else, the directors who took us out of the Petty era put their money where their mouth was and didn't borrow. With Gylfi we have a tangible asset. Your 45 or 50 million is intangible, even more so if it is to be spent on 3 players of unknown worth when all Europe and Africa know we have just charged top dollar and are cash rich.
Sigurddsson is an asset on the books, a big asset. By not selling him and without any debt on his presence on the books, we are investing nothing in him now, we have already in the Spurs deal. We are, like the rest of the squad, paying his maintenence costs (wages) as he depreciates over the next few years as an asset. At that point we either realise his value in the market or write him off on the books ... the choice is a moot point in performance against value for any player. Leon and Angel are effectively written off as assets already, (who would buy them??) but their value to the squad in training is priceless, as is their worth in a starting or bench line up. They may be financially written off long ago but they have enormous value to the Club.
