Do I have to become a member or something? When I click on the link you provide I seem to be redirected to a site asking me to sign up for free. Is this okay, is this the only way to do it? Cheers.

I would disagree, re-Barton. I would ease him back him. No need to rush. Henry and Sandro have formed an excellent pairing and Barton or Mutch, for that matter, are not match fit yet. They will probably be on the bench and will come back and probably be very important for us after the International break.

The one player i would love to see back would be: Onouha. I think he is vital to keeping our defence more solid. I'd have him in at Right Back and play Isla at Right midfield (like the team was set up for the Liverpool game - when we were so dominant until Sandro and Onouha had to go off). Then I'd play Vargas on the left (like he was for some of the game against Southampton). Although I prefer Fer to be in the middle, we could alternatively see Vargas playing just behind Charlie, in the floater position, and I'd have Fer on the left as he has been quite solid if unspectacular in this position for the first part of our recent matches.

Green
Onouha, Caulker, Dunne, Yun
Isla, Sandro, Henry, Fer or Vargas
Vargas or Fer
Austin
Subs: McCarthy, Ferdinand, Traore, Barton, Krancjar, Hoilett, Zamora.

I think with this team we'd be very strong and capable of holding or hopefully even beating City this weekend.

The League we are really in...
at 09:21 4 Nov 2014

We are not going to finish top half in the Premier League. We are in a relegation battle with the other teams that are not going to finish top half. I would say that means we are competing with pretty much everyone from 11th in the current table down. It is amongst these teams that we need to make sure we pick up our points. Other games are 'bonus' opportunities.

Each team in the bottom half will probably pick up at least a win or two against teams in the top half and maybe 4-6 draws. We haven't got a single point in these types of games yet, but hopefully we will definitely get something this coming weekend!

Anyway, this means for a team to secure 40 points (to be sure of avoiding relegation) it needs about 28-30 points against teams in the bottom half of the division and there are only 18 of these fixtures - this means a Points Per Game (PPG) ratio of around 1.6 is required from these fixtures to guarantee survival. Currently, we are averaging 1.75 PPG in these types of games, but all these games for us have been played at home. However, in this type of league table, we would currently be sitting 2nd out of 10! The bottom three teams would be Stoke, Leicester and Burnley.

West Brom - Played against bottom sides:4 (3Home-1Away), Won:2, Drawn:2, Lost:0, Goals For:9- Goals Against:4; Points: 8, Points Per Game: 2.0
QPR - P:4 (4-0), W:2, D:1, L:1, F:5, A:3, Pts: 7, PPG: 1.75
Aston Villa - P4 (2-2), W:2, D:1, L:1, F:3, A:3, Pts: 7, PPG: 1.75
Sunderland - P5 (1-4), W:2, D:2, L:1, F:8, A:6, Pts: 8, PPG: 1.6
Hull - P5 (2-3), W:2, D:2, L:1, F-7, A-5, Pts: 8, PPG: 1.6
Newcastle - P5 (3-2), W: 1, L:3, L:1, F-6, A-6, Pts: 6, PPG: 1.2
Crystal Palace - P6 (3-3), W:1, D:3, L:2, F-8, A-10, Pts: 6, PPG: 1.0
Stoke - P6 (3-3), W:1, D:2, L:3, F-5, A-8, Pts: 5, PPG: 0.83
Leicester - P5 (2-3), W:1, D:1, L:3, F-3, A-6, Pts: 4, PPG: 0.8
Burnley - P4 (1-3), W:0, D;3, L-1, F-3, A-7, Pts: 3, PPG: 0.75

I know it is early days in the season., but if we keep doing well in this league then we should be okay. Another fact that may interest you when looking at these stats is that, although our away form is horrible (P:5, L:5), we have been against the top 10 sides in all of these games, and we are the only side in the league to have not played any of the bottom sides away from home yet.

Anyway, it was nice to see the stats suggesting that as the season plays out we may well begin to climb the table. Here's hoping...

Drop Charlie Austin? Shirley shome mishtake!!
at 06:02 1 Nov 2014

I completely agree with you Seb (QPR_ARG). We should have a three pronged attack with Hoilet and Vargas off the wings (those two are certainly able to keep up with their defensive duties that will be keenly required in this game as well as add pace and guile in attack) to support our best finisher, Charlie. I'd have Bobby to come on for the last twenty in this one if suitable.

My team for the Chelsea game:
Green,
Isla, Caulker, Dunne, Yun
Vargas, Sandro, Henry, Hoilet
Fer
Austin

Subs: McCarthy, Hill, Traore, Krancjar, Philipps, Taraabt, Zamora.

Completely agree. Especially with the International break and then games against Liverpool, City and Chelsea coming up in quick succession afterwards!

I wouldn't be surprised to see this team next Saturday...
at 05:47 21 Sep 2014

Green
Onouha Caulker Ferdinand Hill
Isla Henry Fer Traore
Krancjar
Austin

Subs: McCarthy, Dunne, +1, Philipps, Hoilett, Vargas, Zamora

With all the midfield injuries, and need to be more solid at the back and the fact that Isla and Traore both look suspect as the full backs and better going forward, I wouldn't be surprised to see Harry play a back four consisting of four center halves!

Despite being up against a form team in Southampton, hopefully, we'll look a bit more solid and find some form ourselves and sneak a point or more. It would be more by luck than planning, but it could work well for us in the long run once he has the midfield players fit and back.

Before you think I am being madly optimistic...remember that West Brom held the Saints to a goalless draw, and we won last time we were there and Harry will be determined to do well back at Southampton. Come on you R's - we need to get our away form sorted!

Ex-Pat Role Call - Where are you watching the game today?

I'll be at home watching the game, with a few friends, a few miles from you ChinaJohn. I am in Hong Kong, but I think you'll be there an hour before the start (time difference is 7 hours for us both right now): Oh well, more time for pre-game drinks!

So what team, and what formation will we play today, and what chance do you give us?

I think Harry may go with the 3-5-2:

Green
Caulker, Ferdinand, Hill
Isla, Barton, Sandro, Mutch, Traore
Fer, Austin

...but I hope he tries 4-2-3-1:

Green
Isla, Caulker, Ferdinand, Yun
Barton, Sandro
Vargas, Fer, Mutch
Austin

Or, will he keep faith with our winning team from last time out (were they 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1?) with maybe Sandro replacing the injured Barton:

Green
Isla, Caulker, Ferdinand, Hill
Sandro
Philipps, Fer, Mutch, Hoilett
Austin

Whichever team he puts out and however they set up, do we actually have a chance (given United at home, desperate for the first win, with loads of new flair players and huge resources at their disposal)?

I just hope we give a better account of ourselves than we did at Tottenham. Hopefully the Rs will fight for every ball, and get a breakaway goal and hold off the pressure for as long as possible...maybe clinging on for a point. However, we'll probably get beaten by 4 or 5 and the press will begin their accolades for Van Gaal's new United!

Thanks to Tony, Beard and Everyone At QPR
at 04:07 7 Jul 2014

I came all the way from Hong Kong for the weekend.

Many said it was a crazy thing to do - cost a load, spent two nights on a plane and one night in a bed - but it was a memory that I will never forget. I had a feeling that this was going to be worth it. After all, it was my first time to see Rangers win at Wembley (after all the disappointments of the 80's). This was a once in a lifetime day and I'm so glad my wife said "yes, go for it!".

Being there, seeing my cousin again after quite a few years, enjoying the mood all day long and going mental when Bobby scored, partying away with Rangers fans and waving the flag was worth the 26 hours spent on a plane.

Well done to Harry and the players for staying strong despite us being played off the park with only ten men, and thanks Bobby for that goal! An amazing experience. I agree: thanks Tony, Beard and everyone at QPR!

Info for koh samui
at 10:51 5 Jul 2014

Beach Republic has a great chef, and is quite a cool place to hang out. I believe they have live bands perform there at the weekends too, but honestly two months in Koh Samui is too long unless you just want to relax by the pool or beach and read or even write a few books!! Address for Beach Republic is: Moo 4 Tambon Maret, Suratthani. Enjoy.

clint hill. great player for 60 minutes but burnt out after that.
at 23:34 18 Mar 2013

I can't believe the criticism Clint Hill is getting on this site at the moment (this thread saying he's not good enough for the PL anymore and Northern giving him the same score as Fabio in the match on Saturday!). Clint was exposed / we struggled down the left on Saturday due solely to Fabio having an absolute mare: often caught out of position, failing to make critical tackles and not track back properly. Hence Clint was having to do two jobs when one was hard enough against the pace of Villas front 3. I'm sorry to say it but our two Brazilians cost us the game on Saturday. Both were pants. Worst I've seen from either before. Looked really nervous and kept bottling it at critical moments. Clint fought hard the whole game and it would have been completely deserved if he'd scored with the last kick!

If I didn't know better, I'd think Fabio and Cesar were paid to throw the game!

Don't think there will be any live streams - the 3pm games being shown on TV here in HK are the Southampton v Chelsea and the Peterborough/Norwich matches so I guess you'll have to wait for a highlights package (or more likely - just the goals)!

What a ridiculous comment! We are not even half way through the season - everyone still has to play 'the big boys' again. I'd rather have to play most of them at home (where spirited performances like we showed against Spurs and Arsenal etc. last year) give us a chance of getting some points rather than playing them away!

Thought Bosingwa was solid if unspectacular tonight. I also believe Dyer has been our best RB this season, but he only seems fit enough to play once every five weeks!

Mbia
at 23:47 27 Nov 2012

Mbia was tremendous, but I disagree with the OP. Mbia and Diakite are exactly what we need - a solid two in front of the back 4. They are both strong, hard tacklers and have pace & power to run with the ball through opposing midfields. It's amazing that Harry found in a couple of days a combination Hughes never used, and I believe it will be crucial to our team's resolve and ability to turn our season around. With Mbia and Diakite as the tough two in front of Nelson & Hill we have a strong spine - at last! With Granero in front of them (thank God he wasn't asked to play on the right, like Hughes had him playing recently), and Mackie and Taraabt supporting Cisse from the flanks. This is a shape and approach fans have been calling for for a long time with the players we've got, but Hughes never used it. Harry came in and immediately set up the team right, with players playing where they like to play! Wow, even SWP looked good when he came on.

This shape and these players made a big difference to us keeping a clean sheet, and we certainly created some good openings at the other end too.

Sadly, I think Samba has picked up 5 yellows now and will miss the Villa game, but I think Derry may be preferred as his replacement rather than Zpark or Faurlin in order to keep the solid protection in front of the D.
