VW makes a good point. Many thought we were buying a crock in Ings; I was amongst the "worried". Last season he looked back to top fitness so I hope that continues. We do seem to have a top-level medical team so I'm sure they know what they are doing with Salisu. More than Scotland do with Stuey A!!! Maybe he should have a "slight pull" for the October internationals and stay home!! |

JWP had some of the best stats of any England player: passing accuracy; interceptions; and the like. As for the scuff: was it any worse than happened to the spot during normal play? Wasn't Gomez's pull and tug to give the penalty not cheating? Pathetic comments from people ignoring the big cheating far worse throughout all games.
Kane should have been replaced after 20 minutes. He was a passenger, no contribution at all. Danny I got no service, no chance to contribute much, played out on the left!?
Thought the youngsters brought in looked pretty good, would have learned from their experience. In the fans' "Marks" for players run on BBC Sport app, Jorden Pickford (who should not be picked) was ahead of JWP?! as were 7 other players! So much for fans knowing it all!! |

Never rated Mourinho! Goes to a top club with top team, wins trophies. When the team starts to fade and decline he can't halt the slide - Real Madrid, Chelsea twice. Not capable of buying in right players. Goes to a poor team (Man U) and can't rebuild. Same will happen at Suds, (I love taking the P out of them!) I'll bet the wife's money on it!
JWP leave? HaHaHa appears to have more eithical nature than certain others who shall remain nameless, like Van Dick, PEH! New contract, captain, loved. Why go to a constant-failing club (speak big, win little) to be a bit-part player and the manager will be gone 2021/2022 when he IS Southampton. |

How are clubs, Saints particularly, going to decide who the "limited numbers" are going to be? Presumably they will be season ticket holders - by ballot? seating plan/arrangement?
Or open to all in a weekly raffle?
And half-time beer/toilet queues?
I'm sure we can all guess the teams going to be shown live!! Picking up their extra millions, whilst the rest of us are left unable to see our teams play in any form, smaller clubs with half-full grounds and limited TV income struggling whilst the rich get richer and spend obscene millions from our TV subscriptions on over-priced players.
Surely, in this technological age, whilst attendance is restricted, we should have live-streaming of all teams; season ticket holders having already paid for a seat get it for free, pay-on-the-day fans for a fee. We get to see football of our choice, the clubs get some income: (non/partial-refund of season tickets; sale of streaming) |

I've never been convinced at Mourinho's ability at buying players; if he could spot real ability why, at every club he has been at, do they fade and splutter once the stars there when he arrives begin to lose their abilities? Real Madrid, Chelsea twice. 3 years and he's out. And if he goes to a struggling club, why do they not improve? Man U perfect example. Remains to be seen at Spuds.
Agents? My first thought at any mention is "crooks"! Bit sweeping I know. But the ex car mechanics, low-grade clerks now living in luxury out of football is offensive and is something the football authorities should look at. But while the agents have cash to burn I can't see FIFA's top table giving up on a few pocket stretchers!! |

Am I the only one to not rate JoM? He goes to top clubs in top form and wins trophies. But when the big stars and the team fade he can't stop the deterioration. He doesn't have the ability to rebuild a team; buys expensive players and hopes!! Demonstrated this at Real Madrid and Chelsea (twice)
And he's shown he can't go to a poor team and build them into a successful side - ManU and, to date, Spuds demonstrate this perfectly. Did you see the excited celebrations when a team who reached the Champions League final a season ago scraped into the Europa League.
Spuds would do better with Sean Dyche!!
I don't really understand, if PEH really means what he says about playing at the top level and winning titles, he chooses Spuds. Everton have as much, even better (??) chance, although ownership there also seem to have this "buy expensive and win" philosophy which rarely works unless you can buy a whole team. Everton went for Richarlison - didn't work by itself. Same with ManU and Pogba: one man does not a trophy-winning team make.
If Levy doesn't cough up the right money whilst trying to over-inflate KWP we walk away. Put PEH with the kids for a year; no "top" club would want him in a year's time. Rom's playing better than PEH has this year. There are a couple of good RBs flouting on the market for realistic prices; we seem to have a new CB (?!?!) Sell some excess for funding? |

The comments re JanVest are either absent or negative yet his stats are better than JanBad or JS!! He looks ungainly and lacks a yard (or 4!) in pace but he is effective. I saw a comment elsewhere that he can't head but in the last game he had the PL's highest number of headed clearances. Interceptions and tackles were highest of any other Saints defender. Errors are way lower too. (based on time played, not in total)
People just don't seem to like him. |

Dirk, I don't disagree with you in general. But I don't see any overall improvement with our 2 CBs. The serious errors are there every game - even against MC in which we were lucky although the effort was top notch from all the defence - and if we are to climb the table we need to remove those as much as we can. Of course anyone can be at fault - it's just that we are more at fault than most. Also, Jan V's stats are better than JanBad and Stephens!! Sorry, can't agree that they are a very good partnership.
I agree your comments re. KWP. He certainly didn't hide and was better in the 2nd half. He will learn and improve.
A few weeks ago I was wondering whether to renew my season ticket. Being 70 years of age and living in Yorkshire the drive down and back every couple of weeks seemed a bit excessive to watch a poor team lose! As well as the away games I was attending. But after the showing since return from lockdown I have renewed my ticket - ok, not exactly joy and celebration (after all I live in Yorkshire!!) but a demonstration of faith in the progress we are making. |

I have to agree with Nick about the defence. Badnarek is 2nd worst player in PL with errors leading to opposition goals. Stephens was back to his old self against ManU. Both are fast approaching 30 so are unlikely to improve; and neither is that leader we need at CB. Only 4 have conceded more goals. I don't think we have true PL-quality at CB or in goal.
KWP was given a bit of a run around but he is young and can learn. He was much better in the second half. Bertrand was his usual reliable self although more assistance from Redmond would have helped. The latter had 2 good plays - the chip to Stuey and defending in the corner. He is always looking for space; sadly mostly when the opposition is attacking! He should be looking for attackers.
JWP had his worst game for a while; just couldn't seem to get going. Stuey was good again but seemed to tire in the second half. Ings and Adams were short of supply up front. Danny got himself about but Che looked out of it for much of the time. Probably his first time in the type of game - and being at The Field of Dreams!!
The average number of home points earned in the PL after this last round is 28.1. We have 17. If we earned the average, an extra 11 points takes us to 56 and sixth place! |

I think Che Adams looked more convincing in 15 minutes than Redmond has all season! Yannick 7/10. Smallbone looked a bit off the pace; not surprising. Romeu performance convincing - he's looked good this season (no Hojbjerg replacement needed?) Side improved when Armstrong came on. Spotted JWP pass forward - TWICE!! KWP spot on performance. Badnarek - bit unlucky but still counts as error leading to opposition goal. 2nd only to Valery for most in the Prem!! Wonder why we ship goals from right side of defence.
Looking forward to next season already. But had high hopes for this one, soon shattered!

PEH was/is an excellent on-pitch leader as acknowledged by Ralph and the players. However, as good a player as being made out in some quarters? Think not, although his stats stack up fairly well.
