Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. 12:54 - Oct 20 with 3001 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I watched Cullen s debut v Palace in the league cup alongside Dan James under Potter. The kids played well. Tyler Reid put in a lovely Cross and it sort of hit Cullen and w ent for a corner. He was18-19.He was a not positioned to head the ball and if fact never looked confident. The ball dribbled for a goal kick. Only 18 at the time he had a few seasons to develop. Yesterday 7-8 years later Ronald got a cross in and again Cullen was not positioned and got under the ball and again never looked keen to bury it. Swansea city have never produced a quality centre forward in for the academy or CoE. Cullen is the best over 30 years and millions spent. If I was Coleman I would be asking the head of academy for an explanation. Mr Wright who I have a lot of respect for has been at the club a long time and can give background. This is high level games in one of Europe's big leagues. It may seem like picking on him but now there is nowhere to hide. How can a centre forward in the academy for 14 years not be able to head the ball on target from 5 yards? Kuharevych would have buried that chance. [Post edited 20 Oct 13:18]

Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. on 19:15 - Oct 20 by jack247 | I’m not convinced he’d have got away from the centre back. He’s the most static striker I can remember. He’s had one good header, which he nearly scored from, I think against Bristol City. He’s bigger and stronger, but he’s very easy to mark |
Tbh cullen didn't have to do much to get into that area.

Not got into the area, got away from the centre back. Vipotnik doesn’t do that. He’s easy to mark. I’m not trying to praise Cullen here, he did the bit Vipotnik wouldn’t have done, IMO then failed at the easy bit.

Cullen misses another gold plated cross with his head. on 14:55 - Oct 20 by ReslovenSwan1 | The point was about technical ability not wages. Ayew came through a different academy in France and learned the necessary techniques to justify huge wages. He can do every Cullen did not learn the technical skills. The academy. Is it up to the job? There is a reason the academy is not producing local forwards. |
You pay for technical & natural ability , there's a huge difference between Cullen and Ayew, no shame but that's the level we're now at.

Yes you are right, he doesn't do much outside the box to get away from his marker but I think he would have got onto the end of that cross and at least got it on target which probably would have resulted in a goal.

You are correct of course. However you do not need to be past "African player of the year" or on £80k a week to have scored that goal. Kuharevych would have scored it. Williams according to his coaching mantra has binned Kuharevych on the basis that Cullen does a lot more around the field. Closing down etc. However it currently counts for nothing. I think Williams has to take a long hard look in the mirror and consider the CBR syndrome. Potter played a much better and more pure passing game with movement and was happy to have a blunt tool ( with respect) like CBR at the head of the team. It was effective. (Grimes and right back by the way). Kuharevych and Vipotnik are better than CBR (Baker Richardson).

You’re talking about a bit part player who was used sparingly. Using that season as the comparison, Vipotnik is the McBurnie, not the CBR.

CBR 21 games 4 goals. Some important ones including Vill away in the FA cup. I am s not saying he is a great player. He is a crude blunt instrument ( with respect) but had his uses. Potter a football purist was happy to use him and play him. Cooper dispatched him on first look. He could arm wrestle with tough Championship defenders. Williams dispatched Kuharevych possibly for philosophical reasons. Potter was not burdened by the explanations of others .Potter never had three games without scoring. (for memory) PS. Just checked he did have three blank sheets at the start of his time Forest Stoke and Middlesbrough. [Post edited 21 Oct 15:50]

Yes, if you include the cup games and the games he came on for the last few minutes. How many league starts did he have? I’m agreeing with you mainly, that is exactly the type of player Vipotnik should be this season. What Vipotnik shouldn’t be is our main man up front, just like CBR wasn’t.

CBR has only played for teams way down the pyramid since leaving us at the end of his contract. We were trying to get back to the Premier League and had far better in Ayew and Lowe up front. I think the club made the correct decision in letting him go.

I agree of course but I am asking one simple question for a team that cannot put away simple chances. Why did Potter pick CBR but Williams wanted Kuharevych out and gave him no chance. It is clear to me Kuharevych is better than CBR with higher potential. I believe it is a fake philosophy. " He is not my type of player" . CBR was not Potters type of player either but he played 21 times and scored 4 goals. Fake philosophy " he is not my type of player" sack the recruitment. It never ends.

The biggest question that needs to be answered is. How on earth did we end up with Vipotnik and Cullen as the only options we have up front this season and who's bright idea was it.

Watson and Williams. Williams was engaged in the process as he must be. Martin trashed three not one of the forwards line as none were his players. Vipotnik and Bianchini are done to the manager who gave them the green light. Not even Gyorkeres was good enough for Cooper ( not his pick). The manager cannot be allowed to divert responsibility. Recruitment people are sacked and manager walk away giving excuses. " Not my players". One wonders why Lowe was not signed up as tried and tested.

I think you will find that it is nothing to do with Williams that's why he's frustrated. It's all down to the club cutting costs in preparation for a restructure. Absolutely nothing to do with previous management so it's not worth mentioning them.

It’s as if people think Williams wanted to go until January at least with a striker who can’t really play ok his own up front and a raw, unfit prospect. Some things he is completely at fault for. Having the weakest strike force in the division, by a distance, is not one of them.

This is what I would expect you to argue. Williams was part of the selection process and would have given his opinion. Langstaff is doing no better that Vipotnik. He is frustrated because his selections cannot score with a routine header from 5 yards. A player being at the club training for 14 years cannot plant a header. People say Swansea should pay big money for a routine header. Cutting costs is necessary with or without restructure. Williams is the manager and approved the signings. He sat and discussed the signing at a forum as a united front. They were a team. Williams Coleman Watson.

Right, Ayew is actually a tad shorter. The thing about technical ability is, you can have the best coaches in the world but the player has to be capable of achieving the qualityr required. Cullem will never be as good as Ayew so comparing the two by talking about coaching is a waste of time. Ayew at his best was a decent EPL player, Cullen at his best is a lower end Championship player. No amount of coaching will change that. The cross wasn't perfect and Cullen was slightly ahead of it, he couldn't get over the ball and he had to twist his body and heada lot, he isn't capable of that. He is not a natural goalscorer and shouldn't be up front by himself. The header wasn't his only miss. He's a trier, a hard worker but just not good enough.

There we go, so an average of 26 minutes per game he played, or just over 10 minutes per game throughout the season. That’s less than Vipotnik so far. Not really sure where Resolven is going with this.

And scored FOUR important goals . CBR was crude but strong and scored in the few chances he was given. I am comparing him more with Kukharevych more than Vipotnik. Williams has frozen him out and cannot get his team to score. Williams is architect of his own problems.

Of course, it was better before we got relegated and our owners downgraded it. At least we were bringing prospects like James and McBurnie in then. |
James was from Hull and an age group international before we signed him.
