My Mrs, Caroline, having grown up on a boarder town in norn Ireland absolutely detests it, quite understandably.
What she hates most is what she describes as it having become a ‘Protestant Anthem’ played at probably every rugby match and many sporting events since it’s become unfashionable to play sweet chariot etc or songs celebrating GB’s empire or ex empire
I don’t mind the tune but I can understand the annoyance at what it’s coming to represent
