Have heard of her Great Uncle Wyatt though.

Personally I would have had Stuart Broad who been immense for over 15 years.

Although any event that once voted alleged abuser and proven cheat with his brothers wife over an eight year period, Mr Ryan Giggs as Sports PERSONALITY of the year is a dubious award anyhow.

But basically the final point is the only relevant comment.

Joey Barton is the nob of all nobs !!!

He hates QPR and that's so upsetting Joey but if so please return all the dosh you decided happily to extract from our club.

Princess Anne and Zara Phillips both won previously so its clearly not chosen politically, or is it ??? 🤣

She seems a typical nutcase goalkeeper so am sure she is a personality.

Times are changing and although being of older vintage and will always watch the mens game, delighted for the women that their game is constantly increasing its participation and also attendance numbers.

As to BBC sports personality of the year, its not what it was and is an irrelevance today anyhow.

Dont watch or really take note of POTY these days but if i voted i would have gone for Ronnie 'The Rocket' Sullivan.

An absolute genius player and sportsman .

In sport there are levels you have to break through before you even become a household name. Fair play to Mary Earp for doing this in her chosen field of Women's football, unlike Barton whose become a house hold name for beating people up and being a gobby tw@t.

It's O'Sullivan by the way.

Can I ask why you took offence at the fact I didn't know Mary Earp? I'm kinda guessing you're a female ,maybe even a footballer yourself.?
I'm fine with you digging me out ,it's fair game on this board, just wondered that's all.

Sadly, we can't dismiss his hideous views as not being "of interest" because he still commands a sizeable following on anti-social media.
This, of course, is what he trades off, and will continue to encourage him to ensure that we're all aware of what's going on in that permanently f*cked up brain of his.

Brother, I've spent plenty of afternoons on the streets chasing EDL / NF out of towns and cities in the North West- White man march in Liverpool a particular highlight, some entertaining videos online of them hiding behind the old bill in an actual luggage locker at Lyme Street. Barton isn't the one to worry about

Proto fascism has been bubbling away for a while, yes in part amplified by social media accounts. People following Barton were mugs already tho and frankly in the most part wouldn't take their aggro offline

Edit: I find liberal handwringing and performative social media fussing a bit ridiculous tbh. Have it where it counts, or don't

Are you branding people fascists because they don't wanna hear what some retired Tesco league player has to say about Luton v Palace?

And you admit to using that as an excuse to inflict violence on these so-called fascists?

That's absolutely sinister

The point I think SH was trying to make is that conversation on difficult topics is discouraged. Many of those who disagree with the alternative opinion haven't the intellect to construct a lucid argument (see QPRKirty above for example) so try to shut the conversation down with casual insults and labelling.

Now, SH happens to find this behaviour "sinister". I personally feel that's a bit strong but nevertheless cancel culture is a scourge on debate and discussion. It's not lost on me that the advent of cancel culture has coincided with a series of ugly global events. For the world to move forward these difficult conversations need to happen even if some find them uncomfortable.
[Post edited 24 Dec 2023 15:56]

What are these difficult conversations that need to happen?

Hopefully, its about the appalling level of punditry rather than the gender of the pundit. I find it difficult to agree with those suggesting that the likes of Jamie Mackie add value, his delivery is truly awful.

Sorry but this triggered my "Are you even QPR" alarm

A QPR fan who doesn't want to see Jamie Mackie doing our games on Sky.

Reminds me of that player who claimed he was a boyhood QPR fan but completely refused to play for Gareth Ainsworth. Odd behavior for "QPR fans" imo.

Groupthink reigns supreme.

What could be more refined than punching Nazis? There can be no nobler pursuit.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Ha, There were times at the game yesterday when I wished I wasn't. I really do not have to justify my QPR credentials to you.

So, it's not about the quality of the punditry then? Or if you do enjoy listening to Jamies 'expert' opinions then I suppose it goes to show that we all have different tastes and that its tough for the show to please everyone. Some may even enjoy listening to pundits who had played in the womens game and why should your opinion override theirs?

Who am I comparing Jamie Mackie with, please?

If you want me to choose between whether Jamie Mackie or Les Ferdinand do punditry on QPR games, not really bothered, I'll take either.

If it's between Jamie Mackie and Rachel Brown-Finnis - I'm taking Jamie Mackie.

Relevant, qualified.....I've explained my criteria earlier on the thread. You haven't.

Self-declared Antifa virgins having a meltdown, going on about punching Nazis because some people don't like retired Tesco women's league footballers doing punditry on Barclays men's league football. Delicious.

Relevant and qualified in your opinion, not all share your opinion.

Maybe Nedum would be a better example as he can actually form whole sentences that add value to the conversation.

You seem to be be advocating for a closed shop approach, I'm not sure everyone shares that view

Sorry, I don't understand what you're bringing up Nedum Onouha for. He's in the Les Ferdinand, Jamie Mackie camp. Not the Rachel Brown-Finiss, Eni Aluko camp. Not sure what point you think you're making there.

I was trying to help you out by providing an example of someone who played for QPR and is able to communicate clearly as a pundit.

My point is always that the focus should be on the quality of the punditry rather than whether they played for QPR or not. You appear to like some that I do not and vice versa.
